*Sunday Salami sets out on a journey - Zema - 04-23-2021

It was a dark and cold winter evening in Köln, Germany. Salami, who was 22 years old at the time this story takes place (yesterday) is on his way home from practice. Another day over, another day unfulfilled. He has spent the last 2 years of his life in search for a new football club. Last night he found out from his agent that he would no longer be representing Sunday. He found out on a Tuesday, of all days.

So, walking back home, he remembers an ad he once saw on... the internet. "Are YOU looking for representation to kick-start your football career? Contact me NOW on 202-555-0160 and I'll get YOU a deal. Name is Agent Axel Foley! " Was he ever gonna be take this offer? Of course he will! What else is he supposed to do?!

So, he calls him.
Foley: "Hello kiddo, you've reached super agent Mr. Axel Foley. What deal can I get for YOU?". This wasn't what I expected, but he seemed to be very confident in his abilities.
Salami: "Hello Mr. Foley, I am Sunday. Looking for a new football club?"
F: "Alright kiddo, strange way to phrase it. We talking NFL, ISFL or just testing your waters in the D?"
S: "What..."
F: Alright listen, when can you get to Edmonton? I have a guy who is willing to take me up on my offer, and he's driving all the way from SoCal starting... an hour ago. Can you make it before him? Where do you live son?"
S: "Um.. Köln."
F: "I'm sorry what? Doesn't matter, just get here asap and I'll find you a new team alright? Thanks."

So off he went. A 2 hour drive down to Frankfurt and onto a plane to Edmonton through London and New York taking a total of 13 hours.

After being lost in Edmonton for what seemed like days but was more likely hours, he finds himself in the office of Foley.
F: "Okay kid, nice determination. Great of you to get here so quickly. Now, what position do you play? What strengths do you have?"
S: "Oh, I'm a right back. Really fast with a good cross on me."
F: "That made no sense at all. So... Tell me. Are you good with instructions? Set plays? Good positional awareness?"
S: "Sure, I might not be tall but I'm excellent at defending set pieces, especially corners."
F: "Oh cool, so you're a corner back? Nice! I know of a team that is looking just for someone just li... someone. They're looking for someone. And I think you definitely fit the bill for that. Now, I'm gonna get you a rental car so you can drive down to Dallas. It's only a 31 hour drive, but you've got all weekend to get there! Actually, practice on Monday ahead of some games on Tuesday, so you better be off now before it's too late. Alright kiddo? Thanks!"

While leaving the office I was met by someone rushing into Mr. Foleys office immediately after. "I'm here now, I'm here. 26 hours in a car, no stops. I've made it all the way from LA. Thank you for having me Mr. Foley!"
Foley: "Sorry kid, you're spots been taken. Better luck next time."

I leave the building, get into my car and set out for Dallas, Texas.

The Sunday Salami has found himself a home.
