*Pythons S28 Weekly Defensive Game Balls - xtitanxmvpx - 05-06-2021

(1407 words)

Week 1 POR vs LON

Defensive Game Ball - Logan Anderson (DE)

In a game where the offensive scoring was at a minimum, many defenders stood strong in our season debut. Xavier Walls had 12 tackles and was all over the field, while our rookie additions of Murphy, Hord, Gallagher, and Upshar were adding respectable pass deflections and tackles of their own. However, over the course of the game one player really stood out and that was Logan Anderson. After a strong season in which he played only part of, Logan came out hungry in this game. With a finishing line of 5 tackles, a tackle for a loss, and a sack, I’d like to congratulate Anderson on our Week 1 - Defensive Game Ball! We look forward to more great games out of our star defensive end!

Week 2 POR vs MINN

Defensive Game Ball - Suggs Upshar (CB)

A rivalry game in the beginning of the year, nothing better to spark some much needed motivation as we carry onward. This game was full of back and forth marches down the field and it seemed like the defensives were absent, however, the defensives here were actually playing quite well outside of big plays given up. Hord, Gallagher, Fox, and Walls all had quality games as they tried to anchor the Python’s defense throughout the game, but another player truly played clutch. Suggs Upshar, our first round pick, finished with a line of 6 tackles, a forced and recovered fumble, and a key pass defensed to help give us a key early season victory. Congratulations Suggs on being our Week 2 Defensive Game Ball winner! We know this won’t be your last!

Week 3 POR vs KCC

Defensive Game Ball - Carter Fox (DT)

Talk about a key win for a team! In a revenge game of last season’s first round of the playoffs, we went out and took care of business with the Coyotes. Led again by solid outings from our rookies and key veterans we got our second straight win. Great performances by Suggs Upshar and Lip Gallagher, along with linebackers Murphy and Hord ranging all over the field turned out a quality defensive showing. However, Carter Fox was on a whole other level this game finishing with a line of 11 tackles, one for a loss, a sack, and a clutched forced fumble that he then recovered to seal the game in the 4th quarter. Congratulations to Carter Fox on winning our Week 3 Defensive Game Ball! Keep plugging that hole big guy!

Week 4 POR vs BBB - Lip Gallagher (CB)

Another week in and the Python defense keeps feasting on turnovers. Against Bondi Beach we had so many stand outs on the defensive side of the ball it was very difficult to pick one person over another. A game that had 6 turnovers forced and showcased a powerhouse pass stopping front that included 10 tackles from Carter Fox, Xavier Walls (who also added an INT and a sack), and Elliot Hord, 6/7 tackles from Upshar, Skeeter, Gallagher, and Murphy (who also had an INT), you can see the hard choice for picking just one player. However, when a defender puts up points for the team that’s often a big swing towards winning the game. So this week, Lip Gallagher is the recipient of the Defensive Game Ball! Congratulations to our rookie CB on earning the first of many honors!

Week 5 POR vs DAL

Defensive Game Ball - Xavier Walls (LB)

In a hard fought defeat for the Pythons in this one, many defensive players still showed their hard nosed, determined style of football. Murphy and Gallagher both finished with ten or more tackles, Fox and Hord were across the field making tackles with six apiece, and other players created turnovers. The game ball winner of this tough loss goes to Xavier Walls though and he was a big part of why the Pythons stayed close in this one with the offense struggling early. Walls was a one man turnover creator and completed 3 strips sacks, two of which he himself recovered. One of them was late in the game down by a small margin and within the opponents 20 yard line. A big night for Walls, but a low for the Pythons as they lost by 4. Looking to the next one and hoping for better team results, but congratulations to our defensive captain!

Week 6 POR vs NOR

Defensive Game Ball - Xavier Walls (LB)

The Pythons defense came out to play in this game and they really put a squeeze on Norfolk. In a game in which the defense created 4 turnovers and held Norfolk to only 48 yards on the ground, many players showed up. Upshar, Murphy, Anderson, Hord, and Gallagher all played their parts in this blow out affair and it was obvious they were clicking together as a team. With that in mind, however, for back to back weeks, defensive captain Xavier Walls took the game ball here as he finished with a line of 9 tackles, a sack, a stripped fumble, 2 pass defenses, and 2 interceptions one of which was returned for a touchdown. Congratulations to our Sneks on a huge win and congrats to our defensive captain on another great game!

Week 7 POR vs. TIJ

Defensive Game Ball - Grit Gurdur (DE)

In a nail biter, the Pythons pulled out the win against a strong ground attack from the Luchadores. As has been the case all year, the defense worked well together creating turnovers and holding onto their bend but don’t break mindset. Walls had another strong game with 9 tackles, 2 for a loss, while causing another fumble. Gallagher put up 8 tackles along with a pass defensed and Hord and Murphy both put up 6 tackles with one each being for a loss. This week though, the game ball goes to our defensive end Grit Gurdur for his clutch strip sack late in the game to put the Pythons in position to win the game and seal it away. Congratulations to Gurdur and hopefully he continues this pace of forced fumbles!

Week 8 POR vs TIJ

Defensive Game Ball - Elliot Hord (LB)

In a very clean game by the Pythons offense, the defense held strong in the common bend and break um approach. Continued pressure caused havoc in the Tijuana passing attack and the Pythons took advantage. Xavier Walls continued his hot streak getting a sack and an interception, while Lip Gallagher and Suggs Upshar put up quality numbers from their cornerback positions. In the end, the Defensive Game Ball winner is Elliot Hord with a pair of clutch plays in which he caused a fumble and then picked off another pass to take away a promising drive from Tijuana.Congratulations to our promising young linebacker and here's to more clutch play in the future!

Week 9 POR vs BBB

Defensive Game Ball - Logan Anderson (DE)

In a very close game, the Pythons pulled another one out against a scrappy Bondi Beach team. The Python’s offense struggled through the air, but the rushing attack held the pace for the game. The defense let up some big plays but in the end they squeezed hard and stopped the Buccaneers when it mattered the most. Plenty of players had great games and others continued their rabid pace, but this game’s Defensive Game Ball goes to defensive end Logan Anderson for a very clutch sack as the game went into the final stages. Congratulations to Logan and we hope to see more clutch plays coming from everywhere week in and week out!

Week 10 POR vs MIN

Defensive Game Ball - Teddy Murphy (LB)

A very important game against a very tough opponent in this one and the Pythons defense did not let it slip. Holding strong, the Python’s defense controlled the game throughout and continued their insane turnover rate. Most importantly was the consistent play week in and week out by the linebackers and secondary. Although they do let up some yards, they always find a way to get the ball back or wreak havoc on opposing plans. In this one, Teddy Murphy has earned our Defensive Game Ball award with a stat line of 7 tackles with a sack. After coming in on waivers, Teddy has been a stand out young talent for us and we hope to see his name much more as the year closes out! Congrats!

Some well deserved rewards for some great performances.

RE: Pythons S28 Weekly Defensive Game Balls - Suggs - 05-07-2021

Thanks for the kind words, Titan! Wouldn't have been able to get one without the help of yourself and the rest of our defense (also Xavier Walls for DSFL MVP when? :eyes: )
