*Crossley Chronicles #15 - ajtigger - 05-17-2021

As I head into my fourth season in the ISFL, the level of uncertainty around the WR position with the San Jose Sabercats grows. Heading into this past year I was confident that our WR corps was destined for greatness for now and into the foreseeable future. That however changed quickly as things so often do in this league. First, came the departure of Tugg Speedman. Tugg was a dynamic young receiver who was picked up the year after I was drafted. He has all the potential in the world to be a star and it was amazing to learn with him. Tugg however wanted his time to shine a bit earlier and requested a trade. He left a little after midseason to join New York and has really taken off there. While I will miss my slot receiver friend, he has done what is best for his career and I know he is going to be excellent for the Silverbacks and wish him nothing but the best.

The second departure from the WR locker room was Hood. He decided to leave the team in free agency after the season and it could not have felt more like a gut punch. Hood has been there for me since my rookie season and is the definition of a professional player and mentor. I marveled at his ability to beat the defense deep and at the same time run the crispest routes I have seen. Hood was an amazing friend in the locker room and someone who I admired on and off the field. The Sabercats have lost a man who had the potential to be an all-time great for the organization and in many ways already was. I truly hope he finds more success in his new adventures and look forward to seeing him when we play next season.

With both of these departures I was alone in the WR room. That amazing core we had was gone, all that was left was the small slot receiver out of an FCS school. I wasn't ready to be the leader of the WR team in my opinion and went to the GM to see what the heck our plan was moving forward. He assured me everything was going to be ok, and that he had a plan I would see soon. Well about two hours later I heard the news that we had signed Joshua Campbell to the team. For those who don't know, Campbell is a dominant force in the ISFL. He had just shy of 1400 yards last season and hauled in 11 touchdowns for Chicago. I am so excited to welcome him to the team and was so happy with how our GM handled the situation.

As for the upcoming season, a lot of fans are writing us off because of ageing and regressing players. Well I just want to say don't count us out. The Sabercats are retooled and ready to try and compete this year for a title. We are going to work our butts off everyday on that practice field and be ready to go every game day. I fully believe in this team, the coaching staff, and our front office. Together we are building something special and hope to share it all with you fans this season. Go Cats Go
