Defensive Line Standouts: Week 6

Welcome to week 6 of our weekly look at defensive line performances across the league. After a very slow week for defensive tackles everywhere (except for J. Reigns), the defensive tackle group really got after it this week. Now that we’re nearly half-way through the season, the true studs are beginning to separate themselves from the pack. Players like Tuck, Hendrix, Ramrio and Cox are all but guaranteed to show up on this list every week. However, for this first time since week 4, we have new names on the list! Also interesting to note, every starting defensive end has now appeared on this list at least once. Enough chit chat… Let’s begin!

Defensive End Top Performers

L. Chunk YKW ($) 3 TCK, 1 Forced Fumble, 1 Fumble Recoverd, 1 Pass Defended (Don’t see that often on this list!)
Making his first appearance on our list, Chunk did so by seemingly being everywhere at once. While his 3 tackles are nothing to scoff at, he also recorded a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and a pass defended. This type of multi-faceted game is invaluable to a team and will really help come contract negotiations time.

J. Tuck ARI ($ x5) 3 TCK, 1 TFL, 2 SCK
Tuck had another great outing in his second game against the Yeti, recording 3 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 2 sacks. He recorded a pair of sacks in both games, and that puts him at 4 multi-sack games for the year. Next week the Outlaws travel to Orange County to face the great offensive tackle du of Winchester and Clegane.

F. Wozy COL ($ x5) 5 TCK, 1 TFL, 1 SCK
Colorado lost a close one to the Outlaws this last week but, very little of that blame can be placed at Wozy’s feet. Yet another solid game of 5 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 1 sack was enough to place Wozy on this list for his 5th time, tied for the most of any Defensive end with Tuck and Hendrix. Colorado hosts the hot and cold San Jose SaberCats next week who, have been on receiving some phenomenal performances out of their offensive line recently. Unfortunately, the opposite can be said for their defensive line (or defense in general).

Other Top Performers
T. Bullard LVL ($$) 4 TCK, 3 TFL
B. Crocker LVL ($) 3 TCK, 1 TFL, 1 SCK
K. Hendrix BAL ($ x5) 3 TCK, 1 TFL, 1 SCK
Here we have the first pair of Legion players on our list, with Bullard making his second appearance and Crocker making his first. Bullard wasn’t able to get to the quarter back but his 3 tackles for loss is impressive enough to more than make up for it. Hendrix, much like Tuck and Wozy, is making his fifth appearance here. Hendrix and Crocker posted identical, and very respectable stat lines of 3 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 1 sack.

Defensive Tackle Top Performers

M. Ramrio LVL ($ x6) 5 TCK,1 SCK, 1 Blocked punt
As expected, Ramrio is making his 6th appearance in 6 weeks. Although I’m getting sick of talking about him every week, hes continuing to put up impressive numbers. This week he recorded 5 tackles and a sack, as well as a punt block that nearly turned the tide and brought the Legion their second win. Unfortunately for the Legion, they were unable to capitalize and ended up falling just short of victory. He takes his game on the road to Philly next week for a battle of the expansion teams. Ramrio has a clear path to making it 7 consecutive weeks on the list.

B. Bjornsson YKW ($$$$) 4 TCK, 2 Forced Fumbles
Bjornsson was an absolute standout against the SaberCats. Although their stout line was able to keep him from getting to the quarterback, he was able to record 4 tackles and, most impressively, forced 2 fumbles. Bjornsson was a huge factor in the Wraiths victory last week and truly earned his spot here.

V. Cox LVL ($ x5) 3 TCK, 1 SCK, 1 Fumble Recovered
The final member of the Legion defensive line on the list this week is V. Cox, who is making his fifth appearance here. His 3 tackles and 1 sack are enough to push him onto the list this week but, the clutch fumble recovery pushes him into the top half. He’ll face a Philly offensive line next week that ranks worst in the NSFL in both pancakes and sacks allowed.

Other Top Performers
J. Reigns OCO ($$$) 2 TCK, 2 SCK
B. Metas BAL ($$$) 3 TCK ,1 SCK
G. Taylor PHI ($$) 6 TCK
Reigns and Taylor are both the only members of their respective lines to make the list this week but, are doing their teams proud. Reigns’ performance was key in their victory over the Liberty while recording 2 tackles and 2 sacks. Taylor, on the other hand wasn’t able to get to the quarterback but, was a giant force in the middle and finished with 6 tackles to show for it. Metas also had a solid showing for the Hawks, posting a similar stat line to his teammate listed above by finishing with 3 tackles and a sack.

Team Appearances After Week 6
Las Vegas: 14
Baltimore: 13
Arizona: 12
Colorado: 10
Orange County: 9
Philadelphia: 6
Yellow Knife: 6
San Jose: 5

For the first time since week 3, a team other than the Arizona Outlaws leads all teams in player appearances. With appearances from all four members of their defensive line, the Legion were able to jump both Baltimore and Arizona to take the top spot. Las Vegas looks primed to retain their top spot with a game against the worst ranked offensive line the the NSFL this week. In contrast, San Jose is the only team without a player on the list for what is now the third week in a row. This is, by far, the longest streak of any team. San Jose will hope to rectify this next week against a Colorado offensive line that has allowed 27 sacks so far, second most in the NSFL.
