*GM Interviews #2 : Baltimore Hawks - Yurt6 - 08-11-2017

A big thanks to @HENDRIX

The Baltimore Hawks have had a huge reversal of fortune this year. After last year’s poor 4-10 showing, the Hawks have come out of the gates running, with a 4-2 record to start the season. Both losses have been close, and they are truly one of the most exciting teams to watch this season. They have some big games coming up, including weeks 8 and 9, where they match up with the Outlaws and the Yeti to fight it out to stay at the top of their conference. I sat down with one of the GM’s for the second installment of my GM interview series. Read below as we discuss this season, the draft, the future, and much more. Make sure to stay tuned, more interviews with GM’s from across the league are on their way. Hope you enjoy, and if you haven’t read it already, the first interview with the GM of the Philadelphia Liberty has already been posted.

If you had to point to one player on your team going above and beyond, who would that be?

It would be too tough picking just one player. We have seven key veterans that have stayed committed since the beginning of S1 and have given the team a great base to build around. They are Scrub Kyubee, Cooper Christmas, Bert Metas, Stephen Harrison, Erasmo Broadway, Antoine Delacour, and Turk Turkleton. Commitment is everything to me, those guys have portrayed that over an extended period.

You already have as many wins as you had last season. What has changed this season from last?

We are much more talented across the board and have made a lot of scheme changes.

What’s the strategy like for the rest of the season?

We are going to take it one game at a time and hopefully we add up enough wins to earn a playoff berth. It will be tough, but we're going after it.

Are there any holes you’d like to fill by way of the draft?

I'm always looking to improve every position group. Last year we were forced to take certain positions, but in the S3 draft and the addition of the DSFL I will be going mostly best player available with our picks.

Long term, what’s the strategy for the Hawks?

Sorry for the cliche answer, but we want to keep improving until we are perennial contenders for the championship. Strategy wise we want a balanced offensive attack and a very aggressive, turnover forcing defense.

Your two losses this year were very winnable games, and the team could easily be 6-0. I’m interested to know who you feel your biggest threat is?

Our biggest threats are conference rivals Yeti and Wraiths. Every game against them is huge and our conference record will most likely determine if we get into the playoffs.

In 5 years, where do you see the Hawks, and also the league as a whole?

In five years I think every team in the NSFL will be a threat. I think most games will be a toss up who wins. Every team will have a ton of talent and the TPE gaps between older players and younger players will mean less and less. I also think the DSFL will be great for rookie development. I foresee the Hawks being right in the thick of things when it comes to the Ultimus.

Finally, do you have a message for the fans in Baltimore?

My co-GM and I will never stop striving for improvement. We are going to have the pedal to the metal trying to become the best team we can be.
