*Pythons Week 8, 9 & 10 Game Report - CptGoosar - 08-16-2021

Week 8 V London Royals.

Coming off last weeks strong win vs the Luchadores, the Pythons were looking to add another win against a rather week and lacklustre Royals teams. A solid return of 24-yards from Calvin Hobbs was strong start for the Pythons, A very strong and calculated drive from the Pythons, taking the ball from the 25-yard line to the end-zone over 10 plays. A lovely mix of passes from Panda McKyle and rush by the RB saw the Pythons get the first points on the board. A good start to the game, and so out trotted the Pythons defence looking to get an early stop or turnover. Three straight completed pass by the Royals QB for large gain saw the Pythons defence on the backfoot, could they step up and return to previous form. A so they did, 3 strong tackles forced the Royals to punt. A poor drive by the Pythons, meant that they had a four and out, the defence needed a strong stop to get the ball back. Some decent tackles and several great pass breakups saw the Pythons defence to a couple of pass completion. Another strong and calculated drive by the Pythons with several solid short run gains with some solid pass completed saw the Pythons get to Royal 7 on a 3rd and 2. Unfortunately Hobbs was unable to cling onto a pass to restart the drives, and so they settled for a FG. Giving them a lead a 10-0.

Again, the Pythons defence was slow out of the block, letting 2 medium yard gain in the first 3 plays, until a timely play by Siaosi Multiauaoplele forced a sack, to give the Royals a 3-20, which resulted in the Royal punting. A fantastic rush by Noah Jones for 50-yards flipped the field from the 3-yard line to London 46, 2 plays later a fantastic pass outside the number saw Tay Swizzle complete a 32-yard pass, bring the ball to the 8-yard line. Jax Baker was able to rush the finial 8-yards for the score, giving the Pythons a strong 13 – 0 lead. This time to the Pythons defence were not going to suffer a slow start, and so they did not. Two sacks within 2 plays, one by the rookie Rookie Sensation & Rocco Blade. The second sack resulted in a fumble in which Rocco took the ball all the way for a TD. The Pythons now had a really strong lead of 20-0. The rest of the 2nd quarter resulted in 3 4 and outs. At halftime the score remained, 20-0.

The 2nd half started the same way the 1st half finished with a 3 and out from the Royals. A poor punt by the Royals saw the Pythons take their 1st offensive drive on the Royals 45-yard. A solid couple of plays saw the Pythons quickly move the ball to the London 21-yard, where the stumbled and could only manage an FG, though it was still extended their lead. The Python’s defence was unable to hold the Royal to another scoreless drive and were able to find the endzone, bringing the score to 23-7. A 3rd strategic drive, saw the Pythons move the ball 12 times to the London 25-yard line, and for a second time they failed to capitalise and find the endzone, again settling for a 2nd FG of the game. 3 more 4 and outs saw the game quickly move into the 4th quarter. A promising looking drive by the Pythons saw the bring the ball to the London’s 8-yard line. Unfortunately, a fumble by Tay Swizzle saw the Royals claim the ball right on their 7-yard line. The fumble ultimately led to nothing as a fumble by the Royals on their 16-yard line saw the Pythons claim the ball straight back, a nice pass from Panda to Mark Goodhead, saw the Pythons take the ball into the endzone for another score, with 3:00 left on the clock. That is how the game ended with the Pythons claiming a solid and commanding victory.

Final Score: 33-7

Week 9 Vs Kansas City Coyotes

A crunch game for both teams here, as a win would see the team gain leverage over the other for a potential playoff position. Two 4 and out to start the game saw the game return to earth. A fumble by Noah Jones on the KCC 20-yard line saw the Pythons squander a solid opportunity for a score. It was up to the Pythons defence to hold the field, however a strong and calculated drive saw them take the ball to the endzone in 11 snaps. A strong drive by the Pythons looked promising until the were held at there own 36-yard line, by some fantastic defence by the KCC. The defence were then once again called on to make a stop, however a strong drive of 12 plays saw the KCC score a 2nd TD and take a lead by 14-0.  A promising return drive was stopped prematurely by the KCC on the 48-yard line of the KCC. A strong punt by Tom Roberts pinned the KCC on their own 4-yard line. Another strong show by the Pythons saw them hold the KCC offense to a single forward drive. A strong starting field position for the Pythons meant they needed to capitalise on this to bring the game closer. Unfortunately, two sacks in 3 plays really nullified the chance they had to score, and so were forced to punt the ball again.

A 3rd promising drive of 13 plays by the KCC brought the ball to the Portland 27-yard line but were unable to score a FG to move further into the lead, and so the scored stayed 14 – 0 at the end of the half. The KCC offense was really on fire today with a 4th strong of 10 plays saw the KCC scored a FG, and so the lead was extended by another 3 points. Again a frustrating drive by the Pythons offense saw them fall short again of any significant yardage gain, though a fantastic punt by Roberts saw the KCC pinned to their own 8-yard line, a second defensive TD by Rocco Blade in 2 games saw the Pythons bring themselves back into it. A promising return drive again saw the KCC look threatening to score a goal, however so strong defensive play saw them held to a punt with however pinned the Pythons on their own 1-yard line. This would require a strong drive from the Pythons to move the ball away from danger, let alone score. That is exactly what they did, a very methodical 11 play drive, saw them take the ball to the KCC 16-yard line where Roberts easily kicked the FG, the game was now within a single score, with just over 14 minutes left in the quarter, both team would be throwing everything at this more than ever now. A KCC kick-off saw Noah Jones tackled in the end zone for a freak play which resulted in a safety, giving the KCC a 2-score cushion, and at this point the Pythons looked defeated with that play – they really needed to bounce back and make a good stop on defence. And that is exactly what the Pythons defence did, with a turnover on down being forced on their own 36-yard line, now it was the offences to step up and find that score.

Unfortunately, they were held to just 6 snaps before losing the ball on turnover on downs. A top play by Teddy Murphy to secure his 4th sack of the season on the KCC first snap put the pressure back on to the KCC, and thus they were forced to punt. A solid punt saw the Pythons receive the ball on their own 19-yard line. A good couple of rush by Noah Jones saw the Pythons start a promising drive until a poor play for -6 yards saw the Pythons face a 4 and 14. Could they convert this, a nice pass by the rookie QB Sailor to Calvin Hobbs but was only for 7-yards, and so gave the ball to KCC on their own 26-yard line. Could the defence hold the KCC to no points, some solid play saw they KCC attempt to make a 46-yard FG, it was converted and so the Pythons now faced a score of 22 – 10 still a 2-score game with 2:42 left on the clock, a quick score and the game is still on. The offence trotted out in one mode, air raid offence using those 2 minutes drills they practice in training all the time. Some strong quick passes by Panda with a particularly amazing pass to Hobbes for 59-yards flipped the field, leaving 1:40 left. A quick TD was needed for the Pythons to have any chance, unfortunately several dropped passes a fantastic defending resulted in a 46s left before the rookie QB completed a 1-yard TD to Hobbes for his 9th of the season. With 39s left the Pythons recovered an onside kick, and so they had a few plays to score and take an outstanding win. Though a poor play by the O-line resulted in a 11-yard sack saw all chance go unless a Hail-Mary could be pulled off. A this wasn’t to be the Pythons ended up losing what could have been the best game of the DSFL so far.

Week 10 V Minnesota Grey Ducks

After an unfortunate loss against the KCC, the Pythons faced another tough fixture with the Grey Ducks. Though it wouldn’t be the easiest fixture as the Grey Ducks are the best team in the DSFL. The MGD kicked off and after a good 63-yard punt The Laz was able to return the ball for 20-yard and so the first offensive snap was taken on the Pythons 22-yard line. A strong looking drive by the Pythons with several promising pass and rush saw the Pythons take the early momentum until it swung when Panda was sacked for 11-yard forcing the Pythons having a 2 and 22, 2 poor passes forced the Pythons punt, Roberts over kicked the ball and thus the MGD started their first offensive draft on the 25-yard line. The first MGD snap resulted in a 51-yard pass until The Laz made a last-ditch attempt at a tackle to save the TD. Two plays later and the MGD kicked a FG taking a quick 3-0 lead. The Pythons then had a 3 and out and a poor punt gave the MGD decent field position. A fantastic tackle by The Laz saw a fumble which was returned for 10-yard, the Python really needed to capitalise on this play and score to take a lead. Though a second 3 plays for little yards saw the Pythons punt again, a fantastic punt saw the MGD pinned on their own 3-yard line. A strong looking drive by the MGD was abruptly halted by Multiauaopele for a 2nd fumble of the game saw the Pythons take control of the ball on their 7-yard line. A second turnover by the Pythons defence were really keeping the Pythons in the game and so the offensive team really needed to get a score. Another promising drive by the Pythons was stopped again when Panda was sacked for a 7-yard loss, and thus were forced to punt again. Roberts again succeeded in a fantastic punt pinning the MGD on their own 1-yard line, the punt couldn’t have been better really. The Pythons defence were struggling holding back a very methodically drive, until a fantastic play by Rocco Blade, currently the Pythons best player on defence so far this season, saw him record his 6th sack of the season, thus the MGD were forced to punt, resulting in a touch-back for the Pythons. Their first snap saw Hobbes take a fantastic pass by Panda for 53-yards plus a penalty saw the Pythons take their second snap on the MGD 10-yard line, surly they had to score this drive. A 9 yard drive in 3 plays saw the Pythons face a 4 and 1 on the MGD 1-yard line, would they go for the TD or take the FG. The took the FG, would this come back to bite them later on in the match. The MGD managed to score on their 3rd return snap with a 63-yard pass for the TD, the Pythons secondary has been beaten twice this game for big yardage, to secure the win they would need to stop those type of plays.  A 3rd sack on McKyle really exposed the powerhouse that is the MGD defensive line and weakness in the Pythons O-line, therefore the punted. Leaving 28s left in the 2nd half and the score ended 10 – 3.

The MGD received the ball at the start of the 2nd half, another strong looking drive by the MGD saw them have reach 4th and inches on the Pythons own 19-yard. The MGD like the Pythons before went a kicked a FG. The Pythons tried a different offensive tactic this time and attempt to bulldoze the MGD d-line by rushing the ball, the drive started strongly though an untimely penalty saw the Pythons face a 3 and 21, and were unable to find the required yardage, and so punted for a 6th time this game. The MGD returned with a methodical drive and were socked after a sack, by IMiss Hordle. Could the Pythons finally take a second score of the game? They weren’t able to and thus had to punt for the 7th time, they really needed to find a way to convert on 3rd downs. Though the MGD didn’t do any better on their drive punting only after 4 snaps. This had to be the time the Pythons finally scored again. A very promising drive, with some fantastic plays all over the field from both running backs and a fantastic 27-yard catch by Baker. Another 4th and 1 on the MGD 1 yard – surly they go for this time? Nope they opted to kick a FG and missed, on the 1-yard line? This is first FG Roberts has missed season and from the 1-yard, this could be the play that defined the game. Another 4 and out by the MGD saw the Python take the ball on their 9-yard line with 2:56 left trailing by 10. A quick TD or score could see the game get really exciting. A that is what the Pythons kindly got with a TD leaving with 1:23 left on the clock. The drive was a typical air raid 2-minute drill, with several large gains by the TE Goodhead and Tay Swizzle, his first large gain of the game, and completed by the Rookie Boateng for a 15-yard TD, his first of the season. Would this be a turning point in the game? An attempted onside kick was unsuccessful attempted by meant the game was almost over, all the MGD had to do was hold the MGD to a quick drive, and that what they got. The Pythons got, they had 27s to get a FG to tie the game or a TD to win. With 12s left the Pythons attempted their second Hail-Mary in as many games to win, and it wasn’t to be. The Python lost another close game and really put their playoff in jeopardy. 4 games left to secure the playoffs spot with a win up on the KCC, the ball was in their court.

Final Score: 33-7
