*Comparing Defensive Ends since S25 - JuOSu - 08-21-2021

Sadly, the new sim has ultimately fucked over Defensive Ends and Defensive Tackles, as I talk about quite regularly. I am still hopeful this gets fixed but at this point I am not too hopeful.

Comparing my stats from the first two seasons to now is just sad, despite all that extra TPE.

That being said, since you can basically not compare yourself to the all time greats anymore, I figured I would compare myself to my peers, to see how I was doing it.

Why S25? Well, it's when my player started in the majors. This is just data I collected for myself, but figured I would share it. If your player started before S25 or after S25, obviously that will affect your data but I figure it was still interesting for some people.

For my own stats, I am fairly happy with this and feel slightly better about my career so far. For tackles, I am currently third on this list. For tackles for losses I am currently sixth, despite just having one this season. For forced fumbles I am tied for fifth. For fumbles recovered I am tied for second. For sacks I am now third as well.

Overall, this is a pretty solid ranking for me.

I also wanted to see how my DE colleague on NOLA is doing, the amazing Ranger. Ranger ranks 17th in tackles, 14th for tackles for loss, tied for 12th in forced fumbles, tied for 16th in fumbles recovered, 18th in sacks. Also amazing really!

RE: Comparing Defensive Ends since S25 - Pat - 08-22-2021

So I've heard it thrown around a few times that the new sim hurt DE a bunch, but no one ahs really said why exactly. When you compare the position as a whole pre and post sim switch, Defensive Ends went from being tackle and TFL focused to much better pass rushers. Heck, going back a few seasons pre-switch, you would see one, sometimes two, DE get double digit sacks in a season (a lot of times no DE would break 10 in a season) as opposed to now where it is commonplace to see multiple DE getting 12+ sacks in a season.

I think the belief that somehow they're worse comes down to a few things: 1) not every team runs a four man front anymore, and when DE are put more on the interior is changes their impact on the game and 2) the league is much much much more of a pass-happy league now, meaning that there are just less chances for TFL in general - for reference, in S22 the lowest rushing attempts by a team was 344. That would have been good enough for 8th most in S30. Arizona led the league with 437 rushing attempts this season, and in S22 there would have been 6 out of the 12 teams that had more carries than that.

Do DE stats look different? Of course. I can understand that being a bit of a system shock when their stats were pretty static for 26 seasons. But now instead of being the big, nasty run stuffers that get lots of tackles and TFL, they've shifted into more pass rushers that get sacks and force fumbles. Different doesn't mean worse.

...has the T. in Etrigan T. Slayer always stood for, "the"??

Man I kind of hope not. I always thought it made him sound like regal or something, like he could throw, "Esquire" after it and it would work.

RE: Comparing Defensive Ends since S25 - Asked Madden - 08-22-2021

I don't think DE was ever a flashy position by any means outside of maybe the first few seasons where it seemed almost broken.
I'm not sure if it's anecdotal as it's my one outlier season but the season of the sim switch seemed to make DE get much better stats, which led me to believe it was about to become a more enjoyable position to play. Alas that didn't happen and my player is back to 2 or 3 games a season with 0 stats despite being fully capped.
Now I'm not sure if this was down to adjusting blitz percentages the season after sim switch or (more likely) its because I've gone from having I high earning DE across from me to a shirt filler this last few seasons
