Defensive Line Standouts - Week 10

Welcome to week 10 of our weekly look at defensive line performances across the league. With the playoff picture becoming clearer, each game is becoming more important than the last and the truly great players are making it their time to shine. Our list is back to full strength this week with no teams on a bye. Enough chit chat… Let’s begin!

Defensive End Top Performers

J. Tuck ARI ($ x8) 8 TCK, 2 TFL, 2 SCK
After his week off, Tuck came back fresh as a daisy and put up a doozy of a performance. His 8 tackles led all defensive linemen this week, as well as adding 2 tackles for loss and 2 sacks. This is his eighth appearance on our list, the most of any defensive end.

B. Bjornsson YKW ($ x7) 5 TCK, 2 SCK
Bjornsson has been adjusting to his move to defensive end from the tackle spot very well. In what was only his second game at the position he’s already made our list with 5 tackles and 2 sacks against the Philadelphia Liberty. His ability to play any spot of the defensive line is an invaluable tool to the Wraiths.

F. Wozy COL ($ x6) 4 TCK, 1 TFL, 1 SCK
Wozy has been consistently great almost all season, and that continues this week. His 4 tackles, 1 tackle for loss and 1 sack were just enough to edge the Yeti past the Orange County Otters this week. I don’t expect this to be Wozy’s last appearance here.

Other Great Performers
C. Okonkwo SJS ($$$$) 4 TCK, 1 SCK
B. Crocker LVL ($$$) 2 TCK, 1 TFL, 1 SCK
O. Taylor BAL ($$$) 2 TCK, 1 TFL, 1 SCK
A. Tomlinson OCO ($$$$) 2 TCK, 1 TFL, 1 SCK
Okonkwo had a solid game on the line this week with 4 tackles and a sack. There was a 3-way tie for the final 2 spots on our defensive end list, so all 3 get the mention here. Rookies Okonkwo and Taylor are making their fourth and third appearances, respectively.

Defensive Tackle Top Performers

V. Cox LVL ($ x9) 6 TCK, 1 TFL, 2 SCK
Cox now officially has the longest streak o any player appearing on this list. His streak of 8 straight appearances is unbeatable this year by any players appearing on our list. His consistently high level of play has been a massive bright spot during the Legion’s inaugural season.

M. Ramrio LVL ($ x8) 3 TCK, 2 SCK
The 2nd half of the terror that is the Legion interior defensive line, Ramrio is tied for 2nd with most appearances on our list, behind only his teammate, Cox. Although their season hasn’t quite gone the way they would like, the Las Vegas Legion front office can sleep a little easier knowing that their interior line is set for a long time.

A. Asipi ARI ($$$$) 2 TCK, 1 fumble recovered, 1 blocked punt
Although he didn’t have a very good game in the traditional stats (with only 2 tackles), Asipi’s fumble recovery and blocked punt helped to showcase his versatility. This just goes to show that there are multiple ways a defensive lineman can contribute to their team.

Other Great Performers
J. Reigns OCO ($ x6) 6 TCK, 1 SCK
L. Chunk SJS ($$) 5 TCK, 1 SCK
G. Taylor PHI ($$$$) 5 TCK, 1 SCK
Yet again, the tackles outperformed the ends as a whole. The defensive tackle group in this league is very deep as referenced by the bottom half of this list changing weekly. Although Reigns narrowly gets the nod for fourth on our list this week, Chunk and Taylor have nothing to hang their heads about. Great performances by all this week.

Team Appearances After Week 10
Las Vegas: 23
Arizona: 19*
Baltimore: 19
Orange County: 15
Colorado: 14
Yellowknife: 13
San Jose: 10
Philadelphia: 9*

For the first time since week 8, all teams are appearing on our list. After a down week last week, the Las Vegas defensive tackles are back on top, and with the help of defensive end Crocker, helped to increase their lead over the league. Arizona is now tied with Baltimore, however, because Baltimore has not had their bye week yet, Arizona gets the nod for second place. The battle for the bottom is a tight one, as San Jose takes a 1 spot lead over Philadelphia, but they have yet to take their bye week. Without defensive tackle D. Miller or defensive end C. Okonkwo, the SaberCats defensive line would be lost. All teams marked with an asterisk have had their bye week. As always, please feel free to share your thoughts and comments below!
