Which DE Archetype should I pick? - Swanty - 09-29-2021

So you’ve decided to create a Defensive End! But which archetype to choose?

You have three options: Power Rusher, Speed Rusher, Run Stuffer. Let’s take a look at those in more detail.

Weight

Heavier defenders have a better chance of breaking through a block and making a successful tackle.

Run Stuffer is the heaviest of the three archetypes at 300 lbs, so players picking this one will enjoy a free built-in advantage to both block shedding and tackling as a result.

Speed Rusher is the lightest of the three at 290 lbs, so they'll need to make up the disadvantage through attributes.

Power Rusher sits between both at 295 lbs.

Strength is important for tackling and breaking through blocks. Also useful for forcing fumbles.

Run Stuffers and Power Rushers both start out with 60 Strength, but while a Power Rusher tops out at 90, Run Stuffer have the highest peak at 95.

Speed Rusher's advantages lie elsewhere, as they have a range starting from 55 and a high of 85.

Tackling is obviously the most important stat for bringing down the ballcarrier, but also helps with forcing fumbles and significantly contributes to breaking through blocks.

This one is quite a unique attribute in that all three archetypes start off with the same value, 55, but peak at different amounts.

Speed Rusher once again comes up last, with a high of 85. Power Rusher is the middle one with 90. Run Stuffer again comes out on top, reaching a high of 95.

Speed makes you run faster, obviously.

Finally, this is where the Speed Rusher shines. They start off with 50 Speed and can be upgraded to 80.

Power Rusher is 5 points back, with a range of 45 to 75.

Run Stuffer starts out quite a bit slower, down at 35. They make some of the difference back up, but still only top out at 70.

Smart players are less likely to commit penalties. Also useful for forcing fumbles and tackling.

This is another unique attribute where all three archetypes peak at the same value, 75. Power Rushers and Run Stuffers have to start out at 40, while Speed Rushers enjoy a slight starting advantage by starting at 45.

Agility is important for breaking through blocks. Also useful for tackling.

Run Stuffers are the least agile of the three archetypes. They start with 45 Agility and peak at 75.

It's quite a gap to the Power Rusher who starts out 5 higher at 50 Agility, but peaks 10 higher than the Run Stuffer at 85.

And it's another big jump to the Speed Rusher, who has a huge range from 55 all the way up to 95.

If the defender has higher Competitiveness than the ballcarrier, they are much more likely to force a fumble. Allows defenders to make more tackles without getting tired.

The three archetypes are all very close together here, all starting out the same but with the Power Rusher able to top out at 90, while Speed Rusher and Run Stuffer peak at 85.

Traits

While each archetype can obtain one of two traits in exchange for 100 TPE, SpeedRusher or BullRusher, the effect of both of these traits is the same. They make your player much faster when blitzing and more likely to break through a block.
