Which S Archetype should I pick? - Swanty - 09-29-2021

So you’ve decided to create a Safety! But which archetype to choose?

You have three options: Center Fielder, Ball Hawk, Enforcer. Let’s take a look at those in more detail.

Sim Position

Safeties are unique in that they have rules around the position they are designated at in the sim.

Center Fielders are more suited to defending the pass, and as such, they will be automatically designated as FS (Free Safety) in the sim. Through this designation, they receive a slight advantage to interception chance, as they have a wider radius from which they can intercept the ball.

Enforcers are more suited to defending the run, and are automatically designated as SS (Strong Safety) in the sim. SS's enjoy a slight boost to their tackle chance, so will be more likely to bring down the ballcarrier.

One of the advantages of Ball Hawks is that they have the freedom to be designated as either FS or SS in the sim.

Height and Weight

Taller defenders have a better chance of preventing a catch, while heavier defenders have a better chance of breaking through a block and making a successful tackle.

Enforcer is the largest archetype, clocking in at 6'2 and weighing 220 lbs. Center Fielders are the next tallest at 6'0, weighing 195 lbs. Ball Hawks are the shortest at 5'11 but weigh more than the Center Fielder, at 210 lbs.

Probably the most important attribute for a safety, and most other positions, is Speed. Speed obviously helps you run faster, and if you can't keep up, none of the other factors are going to matter!

Center Fielders are the fastest of the bunch, starting out with 65 Speed and peaking at 100, but it'll cost a ton of TPE to get there. Ball Hawks are a little slower, with a range of 60 to 95, while Enforcers are the slowest of the three, starting at 55 Speed and maxing out at just 90.

Strength is important for tackling and breaking through blocks. Also useful for forcing fumbles.

In a reverse of the previous attribute, it's Enforcers that come out on top here. They start at 45 Strength and max out at 80. Ball Hawks are once again the middle ranked archetype, ranging from 40 to 75 Strength. Center Fielders, despite the speed advantage, aren't very strong, starting at 35 Strength and maxing out at just 70.

Agility is important for breaking through blocks and returning kicks/punts. Also useful for tackling and defending and intercepting passes.

Ball Hawks come out on top in Agility, starting at 55 and topping out at 90. Enforcers and Center Fielders are identical in this attribute with a range of 50 to 85.

Obviously the most important stat for bringing down the ballcarrier, but also helps with forcing fumbles and significantly contributes to breaking through blocks.

This is the Enforcers time to shine, with a big advantage over the other two archetypes. Enforcers start out with 50 in Tackling and can reach as high as 85.

The other two archetypes both start out with just 35 in this attribute, though Ball Hawks can reach a little higher, maxing out at 80 Tackling, while the Center Fielder peaks at 75.

Smart players are less likely to commit penalties. Useful for forcing fumbles, intercepting and tackling.

Once again it's the Enforcer that comes out on top. They start out with 50 Intelligence and can raise that as high as 85.

Center Fielders and Ball Hawks start out with just 40 and can reach a maximum of 80.

Hands is useful for intercepting passes.

It's the Ball Hawk that has the advantage in this attribute. They range from 40 to 80.

Center Fielders are the next best, starting with 35 and reaching up to 75, while Enforecers are a further 5 points behind, starting out at 30 and hitting a maximum of 70.

If the defender has higher Competitiveness than the ballcarrier, they are much more likely to force a fumble. Allows defenders to make more tackles without getting tired.

Enforcers are the most competitive of the safety archetypes, with a ranging from 45 to a maximum of 85. Ball Hawks are a step down with a range of 40 to 80, while Center Fielders come out bottom in this attribute, ranging from 35 to 75.

Traits

There are a number of traits that all three archetypes can achieve, but each one of them has a unique trait that only they can purchase for 50 TPE:

Centerfielder is unsurprisingly the trait available to Center Fielders. This trait makes your safety more likely to defend passes and more likely to intercept passes.

Box Safety is the trait available to Enforcers. Acquiring this trait will make your player more likely to go after the ball carrier on run plays. It also makes you more likely to make a successful tackle when close to the line of scrimmage.

Perceptive is the trait available to Ball Hawks. This makes your safety more likely to go after the ballcarrier on running plays and also more likely to intercept passes.
