Defensive Line Standouts - Week 11
Welcome to week 11 of our weekly look at defensive line performances across the league. The second week of our short turn around gives us our first 10-time member on this list, and the appearance of some newer faces. After an absolute trouncing last week at the hands of the Outlaws, the San Jose SaberCats stepped up their game big time and put up a great performance, both on the defensive line and as a team. Could this be the new-look SaberCats? Only time will tell. Enough chit chat… Let’s begin!

Defensive End Top Performers
F. Wozy COL ($ x7) 3 TCK, 2 TFL, 1 SCK
Wozy put on another solid performance this week with his 3 tackles, 2 tackles for loss and 1 sack. His seventh appearance here puts him at tied for second with Hendrix of Baltimore and behind only Tuck of Arizona. That’s company any player should be proud to be listed with. He’s at home next week against a Legion team that is allowing the third most sacks in the league.

E. Charlton SJS ($$$) 2 TCK, 2 SCK
The first of 3 San Jose players listed here tonight, Charlton didn’t make a ton of plays but, when he did, he made them count. His 2 sacks this week are tied for the most of any defensive lineman. The SaberCats are at home next week but, have a tough draw against an 8-2 Outlaws team. However, they Outlaws are a rather pedestrian 3-2 on the road.

C. Okonkwo SJS ($$$$) 3 TCK, 1 TFL, 1 SCK
Okonkwo has been playing out of his mind as of late and is making his third appearance in only 4 weeks. His 3 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 1 sack are enough to earn him the third spot on our list tonight. As mentioned above, he will have a tough test at home next week against an Outlaws team that is allowing the second least sacks in the league (in fairness though, they’ve also played 1 less game than most teams in the NSFL.)

Other Great Performers
A. Tomlinson OCO ($ x5) 1 TCK, 1 SCK, 1 safety
D. Dam ARI ($ x5) 3 TCK, 2 TFL
B. Blade COL ($ x5) 4 TCK, 1 TFL
Tomlinson, Dam, and Blade are all making their fifth appearance on our list this week. While there was only 1 sack between the 3 (it was a safety!), they found other ways to contribute. With 8 tackles between them and 3 tackles for loss between them, any coach would be happy with that performance from their defensive line.

Defensive Tackle Top Performers

S. Skidmarks YKW ($$) 6 TCK, 2 SCK
Despite not even being on a roster until August 5th, Marks put on a stellar performance. His 6 tackles were the second most of any defensive lineman, while his 2 sacks were tied for the most amongst the same group. If GMs weren’t taking a hard look at him for next year yet, they soon will be. Skidmarks travels to Orange County next week to take on the 6-5 Otters.

L. Chunk SJS ($$$) 6 TCK, 1 SCK
Speaking of players trying to catch the eye of NSFL GMs, Chunk is another young gun hoping to make a name for himself before the season 3 draft. His 6 tackles and 1 sack were enough for him to earn a spot on our list for the third time. Chunk will be doing everything in his power to stand out next week against eh Arizona Outlaws.

M. Ramrio LVL ($ x10) 6 TCK, 1 SCK
Ramrio retains the title for most appearances on our list with his tenth(!) this season. Although he posted an identical stat-line to Chunk, I had to put the younger defensive tackle first, as his performance isn’t nearly as “routine” as this is for Ramrio. The Legion travel to Colorado next week for their second meeting of the season.

Other Great Performers
V. Cox LVL ($ x9) 2 TCK, 1 SCK, 1 safety
B. Bot COL ($ x5) 8 TCK, 1 TFL
A. Asipi ARI ($ x5) 3 TCK, 1 TFL, 1 SCK
Cox is making his ninth appearance here while the less established Bot and Asipi are both making their fifth appearances. Cox posted a near identical stat-line to Tomlinson, above in the defensive end list. Bot was a force in the middle with 8 tackles, while Asipi was able to get to the quarterback once, and added a tackle for loss for good measure.

Team Appearances After Week 11
Las Vegas: 25
Arizona: 21*
Baltimore: 19
Colorado: 17
Orange County: 15
Yellowknife: 14
San Jose: 13
Philadelphia: 9*

Las Vegas continues their stranglehold atop the leaderboard with 25 appearances, 19 of which coming from their defensive tackles alone. If we were to split them off into their own team, they would be tied for third. The consistency in the level of play is shocking. San Jose in continuing their rise from the basement behind the sudden outburst of their young defensive ends and waiver wire pick-up. Interesting to note that 3 teams didn’t have a player appear on our list this week, the most we’ve ever had. All teams marked with an asterisk have had their bye week. As always, please feel free to share your thoughts and comments below!
