ISFL Dollars for Discord - Swanty - 11-12-2021

Hi everyone,

We're coming to you today with an exciting announcement and a brand new way to earn league money! Starting NOW, you can earn ISFL bucks by posting in the official ISFL Discord server!

Why?
According to the results of the S31 offseason survey (not the one you just completed, more to come on that later), the overwhelming element that people enjoy most about the ISFL is the community and the friends they have made here. And while ISFL and DSFL GMs do an incredible job to create these communities by building engaging locker rooms, one thing we as HO haven't done well enough is encouraging the entire ISFL to come together as one community. Whether that's just to hang out, to get together for game streams or for some fun side events.

It has been noted that we tend to see less player movement between teams than other sim leagues, and that our user base can be a little more siloed, and I think this lack of opportunity to interact with users outside of your teams is partly to blame for that.

As you may know, users can already earn extra league money by posting on Twitter, and while it's fun to get into the character of your player, Twitter generally doesn't see a huge amount of engagement between ISFL users. Instead, Discord is where you spend most of your league time, and where we believe we should focus our efforts on encouraging interaction.

So we decided to introduce a small bonus for interacting in these central, common areas with your fellow leaguemates, with a payout structure that rewards regular interactions, but won’t be a necessity and doesn’t break the economy.

How?
For those unaware, MEE6 is a Discord bot that awards XP for every individual minute that you post in a server. You then level up based on the XP you've received.

At the start of a new offseason, the ISFL Discord server's MEE6 leaderboard will be reset, and at the end of that season, you will be paid $100,000 per level that you've reached. So if you wanted to earn a cool $1M per season by hitting level 10, that would take an average of 234 messages. For $2M it would take 1,193 messages. And if you wanted to replace a standard paying league job and earn $6M, you'd need to post a pretty unachievable 22,278 messages. That's a little less than one message every four minutes for 8 weeks.

So what's to stop users spamming Discord over and over to increase their level? They could, but MEE6 only counts one post per user per minute, meaning that if you really wanted to game the system, you could only do so at a maximum rate of 60 posts per hour. It would be far less soul destroying to just have a nice chat with your fellow ISFLers and get paid for it! If there are any shenanigans in trying to game the system, we reserve the right to deduct XP as we see fit.

Please note that the bot channel and counting channels won’t provide XP.

As we launch this program and continue to look for more ways to build a more positive and engaged ISFL, we are also launching a new Community Moderation Team. We are hiring a user to pilot this team as the CM Head. Please check out the official job posting: https://forums.sim-football.com/showthread.php?tid=36180

When?
Now! The leaderboard has just been reset (sorry to our former #1 Edd) and users' levels will be snapshotted and paid out on Saturday 18th December, the day after the S32 Ultimus.

We think these payouts will add a small incentive to interact with the rest of the community, perhaps more so for those users currently without jobs and who just need a nice little side income, but without completely eradicating the interest in those other mediums.

If you're not currently in the ISFL Discord, here's the link: https://discord.gg/nZxdR8VVrT

And if you have any suggestions or ideas for the server, like channels, games or events you’d like to see, please feel free to get in touch with any of us or post in the ideas-and-feedback channel!

Super disappointing to find out that Edd was #1 in the general server. Why did we let him do this?!?

Do we have to post our discord username anywhere to receive payment?

No don't worry, we'll make a mapping table and reach out to any Discord users where we're not sure who their forum account is
