*Who is the NSFL's Most Improved Player? - bovovovo - 08-29-2017

A few days ago, the point task activity “Most Improved Player” closed, where NSFL players around the league wrote about who they thought was the most improved player from S1 to S2. I thought it would be interesting to tally up who everyone wrote about to identify exactly who is the most improved NSFL player (as voted by the players). I’ll also include snippets of what people wrote about the players with the most votes.

Without further ado, here are the players who had received the most shout outs during the “Most Improved Player” PT (including graphics!):

1. Erasmo Broadway, LB BAL 7 shout outs
2. Tim Pest, OL ARI 6 shout outs
3. Paul Dimirio, TE PHI 6 shout outs
4. Mike Boss, QB OCO 5 shout outs
5. George Wright Jr., TE OCO 5 shout outs
6. Cooper Christmas, WR BAL 4 shout outs
7. Dominic Verns, DB OCO 3 shout outs

After these guys, there were 6 players who had two shout outs and 23 players who had one shout out.

Here are a few snippets of what people had to say about the top 3 “Most Improved Players”

Erasmo Broadway
“There are two kinds of people responding for this point task: those who pick Erasmo Broadway evryday as Most Improved Player and those who are wrong. By any objective standard, Broadway was mediocre at best his rookie year. Playing defensive end, the former Notre Dame standout posted 39 tackles, including 6 for a loss, and 3 sacks. His Hawks finished as the worst team in the league and Broadway was relegated to afterthought status. But it wasn't all bad, Broadway recorded But nine pass defenses, the high water mark for the position. For those watching, it was a clear harbinger of things to come.

In the Season 1 offseason, the pride of Chi-Town made the shift to linebacker. The league's center of power shifted with him. With that change, among others, the Baltimore Hawks went from the league's laughingstock to the NSFC regular season champions. This year, Broadway has recorded an absolutely stellar stat line: 115 tackles, 12 sacks, 13 passes defended, 3 interceptions and 7 tackles for a loss. He stepped huge for a linebacking corps who saw its best member, Kurt Hendrix, transition to a new role as defensive end.

In Season 2, Broadway put the league on notice, but Season 3 will tell if he's the real deal or another flash in the pan.”

Tim Pest
“If we're looking at players that have improved the most over the course of the last season, the one player that can't be ignored is Arizona Outlaws OL Tim Pest. In S1, Pest was regarded as a skilled lineman, but despite his high number of pancakes, he was also one of only two players in the league to give up double digit sacks, which is a huge problem if you're the starting tackle for your team. You can tell that Pest was motivated by his poor performance last season and some of the mocking that he had to endure.

We heard rumors of his intense offseason workouts and there were some reports before the season began about how good he looked, although some of the estimates of his strength were a little exaggerated. But, so far he has been the real deal this season. He already has as many pancakes this season as he did all of last season, but he also has not given up a single sack on the year. He's the only left tackle in the league that can make that claim and his teammates, and specifically his quarterback, are likely very thankful for his steady and reliable performance.”

Paul Dimirio
“My vote for most improved through season 2 is none other than Liberty TE Paul DiMirio. Let us take a journey down memory lane.

Game 1 – 2 for 10 yards
Game 2 – 2 for 14 yards
Game 3 – 4 for 16 yards
Game 4 – 4 for 26 yards
Game 5 – 4 for 23 yards – 1 TD
Game 6 – 4 for 26 yards
Game 7 – 6 for 47 yards
Game 8 – 6 for 43 yards
Game 9 – Bye
Game 10 – 5 for 26 yards
Game 11 – 6 for 44 yards
Game 12 – 7 for 53 yards
Game 13 – 9 for 102 yards
Game 14 – 10 for 105 yards

So here we can see that Paul was on the sad side of the spectrum weeks 1 and 2, with only 2 catches each week for 10 and 14 yards. Then he started catching 4 balls a week until game 7, with yardage in the 20’s and a lucky TD game 5. But then, week 7 he upped the catches to 6 a week, yardage in the 40’s, dipping below that only once for the rest of the season (as of game 14) in week 10. Since then he’s had 6, 7, 9, and 10 catches, including over 100 yards for the last two games. Considering most catches he makes are a 1st down, Paul really turned it around over the course of the season, helping Liberty move the sticks and keep the offense rolling. Keep on truckin’ Paul!”

So there you have it. Congratulations to Erasmo Broadway, Tim Pest, and Paul Dimirio, you are the NSFL’s Most Improved Players as voted by the players!
