*Sarasota Safety Peter Patterson Announces Retirement - slate - 03-26-2022

SARASOTA, Fla. -- Sailfish safety Peter Patterson announced that the 2049 season will be his last in the ISFL in a press conference this morning.

The 32 year old former cornerback has had successful careers as part of the Kansas City Coyotes in the DSFL and the Sarasota Sailfish in the ISFL, with whom he won two Ultimus trophies in the 2042 and 2045 seasons. In the DSFL, he recorded 7 interceptions in 28 starts and was nominated for Cornerback of the Year in both his senddown seasons. In the ISFL, he was somewhat outshone by Sarasota's many defensive stars during his tenure, but he has always expressed a joy in doing his part and enabling those around him to succeed.

This attitude helped him through the swap to safety for his final two seasons, which turned out to be more difficult than he had anticipated when initially approached about it. "Cuco [Clemente, former Sarasota safety] made it look so easy, so I thought it would be pretty straightforward for me to make the move," reflected Patterson on this swap. He chuckled and added, "Turns out Cuco was just that good."

Patterson denied speculation that his move to safety had fueled unhappiness with the team and led to his retirement, saying that it had actually helped him find new enjoyment in the game at the tail end of a long career. He instead cited his age and his desire to spend more time with his family as the main reasons he had decided to retire.

Patterson expressed excitement at being able to spend more time with his wife Nora and his two children, 3 year old Gerald and 1 year old Sylvia. But he thought it was unlikely he would be away from football for too long. "Coaching would definitely interest me, I've had some really great coaches throughout the years and it would be fun to give back to younger players in that way." It has also been reported that Patterson has drawn interest from some networks after appearing last offseason as a guest analyst on Sports Entertainment Network to break down cornerback prospects in the ISFL and DSFL draft classes.
