*J.T. Kurbis Scouting Report - (S36) O-Line Prospect - JoshiePoo - 04-06-2022

J.T. Kurbis is a former 2 star recruit out of Morristown NJ, who was lightly recruited by multiple colleges before taking his talents close to home in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Kurbis played four years with the WCU Golden Rams, playing mostly Right Guard, but also subbing in at Tackle on occasion. He finished his final season starting all 12 games for WCU, with a majority at Guard, where he showed his versatility both in pulling on power running schemes and decent speed in climbing to the second level on gap scheme fits. Weighing in at 315lbs and standing at an impressive 6'5, Kurbis is a behemoth of a man with an impressive combination of size and athleticism which helps him win at the point of attack and move defenders out of the way with ease.

Strengths:
Kurbis is a relatively unknown prospect, only recently coming into the ISFL spotlight in terms of recruiting. Many scouts were pleasantly surprised by a media video released after Kurbis' pro-day at WCU, where he set school records on both the Bench-press and the deadlift. His lifting prowess firmly places his at the top of his class in terms of strength, which has both GMs and coaches salivating as to what his ceiling could look like at the next level. In interviews he has shown a propensity for hard work and a knack for picking up new schemes, which will come in handy for whichever team decides to take a chance on him.

Weaknesses:
Some scouts however are quick to point out Kurbis' lack of refinement in terms of technique, both in hand placement and footwork. Kurbis gave up more pressures than any other lineman at WCU last year, though he also had the highest snap-count out of all Offensive Linemen on the Golden Rams. He will often times find himself in trouble with mediocre hand placement and kick-slide technique, which sometimes leads to him shooting his hands too early to overcompensate and finding himself off-balance. Kurbis lack of pass-blocking technique was exposed on multiple occasions last season, where more savvy rushers were able to counter-punch his hands and win with club and swipe moves. In the running game Kurbis can sometimes struggle on his bucket-step and find himself behind plays, where he has to make up for poor technique with good agility and strength. He has also been known to struggle against anchoring DTs, and while he isn't often overpowered, his lack of ability to find leverage sometimes leads to clogged running lanes. His low-floor in terms of technique will require patience from teams to develop and an eagle eye from coaching in order for Kurbis to realize his full potential. It will take the right landing spot for Kurbis to take the next step, and many teams will be asking if they have the resources and most importantly time in order to mold Kurbis into a starting caliber lineman.

Finals Thoughts:
In interviews Kurbis is reportedly "highly motivated" and "eager" to prove himself in the ISFL. He has impressed coaches with his understanding of the nuances of offensive line play, with one coach stating Kurbis is "The smartest kid coming out of college I've seen in a long time." When this reporter spoke with Kurbis, it was clear he had a chip on his shoulder, and something to prove.

Kurbis' favorite food is pancakes.
