*Luchadores claim Teemo Swift off waivers - Repgnar - 04-06-2022

With the March 31st Developmental Simulation Football League Trade Deadline in the past most General Manager's are looking at waiver wire pickups to get a sneak peek at next year's rookie class. Waiver Wire pickups this late in the season may not be the difference maker in the post season but both teams and players have a chance to make an impression. The Tijuana Luchadores are already in prime position to close out the season with a league best 9-3 record going into Week 13. This morning they added to that roster by claiming Safety Teemo Swift and are exploring options to get him on the field as soon as tomorrow.

Tijuana General Manager Kotasa reached out to Teemo Swift early this morning to inform the player of the roster move. Sources say that the Luchadores fully expect for Swift to take the field in some capacity in their push for the Ultimini. The Luchadores have two road games remaining in the regular season. Unfortunately for the Yordle though League expectations are relatively low for the undersized safety after only two seasons at the Collegiate level. Swift comes in at 2'8” and only 35 pounds. Slightly above the average for a Yordle but expected to be woefully inadequate for the DSFL, let alone ISFL.  Some talk show hosts were quick to discredit his body of work in addition to his body size. This is not the first time Teemo Swift has heard this criticisms though.

"Size doesn't mean everything”

Despite the physical stature Teemo was able to win a starting job as a walk on at the University of Lincoln Nebraska. He started all 26 games while attending the University and even returned two interceptions for touchdowns in his final year. He quickly became a fan favorite as an Omaha native and earned the nickname Honey Yordle. The Luchadores are expected to take advantage of his speed in the secondary with their wall-like defense.

Teemo was asked how he felt regarding the Luchadores and what he expects to get out of shortened season for himself. He is expected to meet with the team on the road as they travel to Bondi Beach some time today.

“It came as a bit of a surprise to be honest. I'm not super familiar with the waiver wire order but let's just say the Luchadores weren't the first team to reach out. Before going to bed though I saw the other team went with another safety. Never thought of myself to take something like that personally but I did. To be picked up by the league best Tijuana Luchadores though was a welcomed surprise this morning. I'm looking forward to getting to work along side Talen Farrens who's been putting up some great numbers at the Safety position. The Luchadores' defense has been amazing this year and I can't wait to get on the field with them.”

The Tijuana Luchadores will be facing the Bondi Beach Buccaneers (5-7) in Week 13 and the Kansas City Coyotes (8-4) in Week 14. The regular season finale against the Coyotes may be a glimpse of what's to come in the Ultimini and is surely to draw viewers.
