*WFC S35 Southeast US Primer - qWest - 05-14-2022 Introduction and Big Announcement Hello ISFL! I’m qWest, the newly announced co-Federation Head alongside my partner @LIL MUNKEY for the reigning WFC Gold Medalist Southeast United States Team. It has been a few seasons since we were last in Reykjavik for the inaugural Season 30 World Football Championship, so I wanted to write this media up as a primer to reintroduce newer users to the competition and to this team ahead of our upcoming competition this ISFL off-season. One of the first things that LIL MUNKEY and I want to do publicly as the new Federation Heads for SEUS is announce a change in branding for the team going into the S35 competition. While we think the current logo, provided by @”Starboy” from the initial logo competition, is really sharp, we thought there was an opportunity to bring something new to the team that we also hope will feel even more representative for the region. We kept quite a few design cues from Starboy’s logo by building off of the same initial font, but the new logo is still a big departure and we hope you all love it as much as we do. Here is the new logo moving forward for the WFC team from Southeast US: Looking Forward to the S35 SEUS Team For the purposes of the WFC competition, the Southeast US team can select players to their initial roster from the following US states and territories (according to the location that one submits in their roster page or previous transfer request): Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia. Federation Heads for each region will initially select a preliminary roster to the WFC Commissioner. There is a limited number of key, starting level players that each region can select in this early stage. The remaining players in every region will be pooled into one group, out of which the different federations will then be given the chance to draft any player from the pool to help fill in other spots on the roster as needed. These players are like mercenaries called in to help as many high level players as possible get involved and will be returned to their region’s pool to select in the next season. Many of the heroes that brought the S30 SEUS Team to Gold Medal glory have know retired; like Sam Howitzer, Chizuru Ichinose, and Andrew Witten; so we want to get fans in the league ready to get excited for the new players that will be working hard and balling out to try to bring the WFC trophy back to the Southeast Region. Of course, picks for these positions could change down the line due to TPE earning, fillers from the draft, and transfers. Players are eligible to transfer once during their career. This season’s transfers close on the 20th of May and can be found here: https://forums.sim-football.com/showthread.php?tid=39246. Another disclosure, TPE numbers for this article come from the May 7th update. Without further ado, let’s look in on a position-by-position preview of SEUS. Quarterback Carter Knight - 1054 TPE Live Laughlove - 905 TPE There are two quarterbacks currently eligible in the Southeast region, and they’re both very capable rising stars that have shown they can compete on the ISFL stage. The competition for starter will be between the 1054 TPE Sarasota Sailfish signal caller Carter Knight and the 905 TPE gunslinger for the Colorado Yeti, quarterback Live Laughlove. With Live Laughlove being a gunslinger archetype, and Carter Knight being a field general, the decision, if not made just on TPE, may come down to whether we decide to go for a deep, vertical attack, or a more intermediate and short passing attack. Running Back Goat Tank Jr. - 1117 TPE Bradley Welch - 495 TPE Lot Smith VIII - 395 TPE Michael Patrick Porkins - 262 TPE With this running back stable, SEUS has a great foundation for a strong rushing attack. OCO’s Goat Tank Jr. is a proven workhorse that can consistently move the chains even at 300+ attempts a season. He may also be called on to catch the ball out of the backfield from Knight or Laughlove. Look for Tank Jr. to be the focal point for this SEUS team. After Tank Jr. the next most notable back for SEUS may surprisingly be Michael Patrick Porkins, the region’s resident fullback. Fresh out of the DSFL Porkins, as a virtue of being the sole fullback in the region, may be an automatic starter for the team. It will be exciting and interesting to see what the young and powerful weapon will be able to do to clear the way for Tank Jr. After those two backs, Welch and Smith VIII are both great options as change-of-pace power backs that can help in short yardage situations. Wide Receiver Escanor Sama - 688 TPE "Captain" Billy Stinkwater - 522 TPE Darius Bailey - 492 TPE Cmon Skiuuup - 484 TPE Ttollem Mada - 301 TPE Wide Receiver is the first clear question mark on the roster. Without a clear, proven stud, it appears that the SEUS team will be reliant on a deep group of up and coming youngsters to try to make plays. While Silverback receiver Cmon Skiuuup may be brought along to bring a veteran presence to this WR room, the other eligible players are all young talents still looking to improve. While Stinkwater and Bailey bring a lot of straight line speed to work on the outside, Mada and Sama are possession types that can help Knight or Laughlove to keep moving the chains. Look out for SEUS to find a difference maker in this position from the filler draft though if there’s a particularly deep WR region. Tight End Deshawn Penne - 875 TPE James Wilkinson - 384 TPE Nacho Macho Man - 276 TPE The favorite receiver for the SEUS quarterback this season may just be the vertical threat out of San Jose, tight end Deshawn Penne. Penne is a fairly young player exploding into his prime that can be moved around the field to make mismatches and open up the passing game. Next to Penne, SEUS have the option to bring either of the New York tight ends to complement Penne as a possession type tight end. There may be potential for SEUS to go look for a blocking type player to help fill out the roster and feed into their running game. Offensive Line Bob Roberts - 574 TPE Paul Monitor - 438 TPE Joey Marston - 404 TPE Offensive Line is clearly a hole for the Southeast roster. The team is lucky to have a number of veteran options with a history of success at center and guard, there is a clear hole for a stud offensive tackle (or two) to keep their quarterback's jersey clean and help them run outside. I’m certain that the SEUS team will be putting in a lot of resources to try to boost the long-term and short-term stability of this position for the team. Defensive Tackle Emperor de Pengu - 620 TPE Chuck Roth - 618 TPE Amadeus Redding - 596 TPE Solace Avenger - 496 TPE Honky-Tonk Haywood - 478 TPE The Southeast region is excited to have some of the best Defensive Tackles performing and playing in the ISFL right now. Emperor de Pengu and Chuck Roth are difference makers on the defensive line that will help bring a lot of experience and energy to this defense. SEUS also has the opportunity to potentially bring along veteran stud Honky-Tonk Haywood. Redding and the youngster Avenger are both also within range for consideration to make the initial roster for SEUS. Defensive End Leonard Taylor - 825 TPE Nathan Explosion - 434 TPE George Fantobens - 275 TPE Red Arrow Jr. - 267 TPE The clear headliner at DE for SEUS has to be the four-time, the back-to-back-to-back-to-back ISFL Defensive End of the Year (to match fellow SEUS player Chuck Roth’s four straight DTotY awards), Yellowknife’s Leonard Taylor. Despite being on the other side of his prime, LT still is an elite threat and will bring a lot of experience to the locker room. Fiery and incendiary youngster Nathan Explosion is likely expected to fill out the teams initial spots, but Fantobens and Arrow Jr. are also quality role players that could find their way into the roster. Linebacker Dominos Pizzaman - 1185 TPE Dexter Hall - 1064 TPE L'Gazzy Burfict - 573 TPE Duke Cheeks - 513 TPE Nathan Claflin - 506 TPE Teddy Murphy - 491 TPE Rumble Ronson - 445 TPE Adam Schell - 312 TPE From Burfict to Schell, SEUS has a lot of choices for veteran and youngster roleplayers at the linebacker position. These are great players that will help to solidify the middle of the SEUS defense with the opportunity to make some big plays. However, the big headliners at linebacker have to be the pass rusher archetype studs Dominos Pizzaman and Dexter Hall. Both of these players are extremely athletic with all of the tools needed to play all over the field and make an impact wherever they are. Expect both players to be used off the edge and also dropped back in coverage to terrorize opposing offenses. Cornerback De'Aaron Harper II - 753 TPE Tayshawn Crunk - 686 TPE C.J. Sonjack - 658 TPE Spottie O'Dopaliscious - 532 TPE Dragazor Blaze - 444 TPE This SEUS defense may depend a lot on their pass rushers getting to opposing QBs quickly and hoping NOLA’s Harper II can lock down the top weapon of opposing teams just long enough for the pressure to get home. Crunk and Sonjack are veterans that have a lot of talent, but it’s likely that their best years are behind them. O'Dopaliscious and Blaze could potentially make the initial roster to bring some youth and upside to the cornerback corps, or the team could look to improve this position with fillers. Safety Tre' Mendus Johnson - 1134 TPE Dogwood Maple - 811 TPE Regina Ferraro - 366 TPE Harper II and company may very well be given the help that they need to hold on long enough for the pass rush to get pressure thanks to excellent help over the top. Tre' Mendus Johnson is an extremely talented and versatile leader that can be used to help maximize the rest of the SEUS defense. Dogwood Maple is also an awesome veteran ballhawk that should have a big impact at safety for SEUS. Regina Ferraro is a promising player that may struggle to make the roster this season, but she’ll be expected to take over for the other two safeties in future seasons. Kicker/Punter Cade York - 338 TPE SEUS is excited to have a veteran kicker/punter with awards for their achievements at both positions under their belt. York still has a great leg and the experience to make the big kicks in clutch time. That brings us to the end of our position-by-position breakdown for the Southeast US team. We hope that all of these players and our fans are excited to see our team suit up with new playmakers in new uniforms to defend our gold medal from S30! Look forward to seeing our full official roster announcement as we get a lot closer to the coming WFC season. RE: WFC S35 Southeast US Primer - Starboy - 05-16-2022 Waves to gators is a nice touch |
