*Season in Review Irl Week 3 - MobiausGrander - 06-06-2022

Welcome back to the third installment of my weekly reviews of my rookie season! For week 2 of the season, this review will cover games 8, 9 , and 10! Let's get down to it, shall we?

Continuing where we left off, let us now head to game 8 of our season! Our eighth game of the season was against the Colorado Yeti. The game ended in our third victory for us as we won a massive game 45-24. The things that stood out this game however were total yardage, number of first downs, penalties, time of possession, the rushing discrepancy, and the number of fumbles. At first glance and mention, unlike our other victories, these stats would tell you and corroborate the statement that NOLA should have won this game in a massive blowout which we did! Let's go over each of these stats shall we? The total yardage difference was massive between both teams; the Yeti only got 386 total yards compared to NOLA's 504; this difference was largely due to the large difference in rushing yards between both teams and the passing yards between both teams as well. The number of first downs was also a big difference as the Yeti had 17 first downs, while NOLA had only 20. The Yeti massively screwed up in terms of penalties as well! The Yet had 13 penalties for 94 yards, while NOLA only had 5 penalties for 30 yards, leading to free yards for NOLA. The time of possession was nearly even just differing by seconds between both teams, which illustrates how much of a blowout this game could have been if NOLA had more TOP than the Yeti. The main reasons that led to NOLA winning this game were rushing and the turnover margin. NOLA won the turnover margin 3-2 as NOLA only gave up 2 fumbles but got 3 interceptions off of the Yeti. In addition, NOLA got 166 rushing yards, while the Yeti only got 103 rushing yards, showing the difference in efficiency in offense and helping to explain the massive win over the Yeti!

Let us now head to game 9 of the season!  Our ninth game of the season was against the Berlin Fire Salamanders. The game ended in complete and unmitigated defeat for us as the final score became a large 29-13. The things that stood out this game, like the other losses were third down conversion, number of first downs, time of possession, the rushing discrepancy, and the number of turnovers. At first glance and mention, these stats corroborate the statement that NOLA should have definitely lost this game! Let's go over each of these stats shall we? The number of first downs was a massive difference as BER had 15 first downs, while NOLA had only 10. The time of possession discrepancy was also massive as BER only had TOP for nearly 34 minutes, while NOLA had TOP for just nearly 26 minutes. The main reasons that led to NOLA massively losing this game were rushing and the amount of turnovers accrued. The turnover margin was massively against NOLA as NOLA lost it 4-1 again as we lost one fumble and got intercepted three deep in BER territory while BER only got fumbled once, leading to the massive turnover discrepancy and major reason why we lost massively as we lost opportunities to score. In addition, the rushing difference also contributed to the loss. BER got 218 rushing yards while NOLA did not even crack 100 yards at 64 rushing yards, being the other major reason why we lost massively to BER. The final reason we lost this game was the third down conversion rate for both teams. SJS was 4 for 16 on third downs while NOLA was unfortunately 2 for 12, leading to many missed chances to extend drives and keep the game alive as it was winnable during the game itself.

Our tenth game of the season was against the Philadelphia Liberty. The game ended in our victory for us as we won a super close game 27-20. The things that stood out this game however were total yardage, number of first downs, penalties, time of possession, the rushing discrepancy, and the number of fumbles. At first glance and mention, these stats would tell you and corroborate the statement that NOLA should have won this game! Let's go over each of these stats shall we? The total yardage difference was massive between both teams; PHI got 428 total yards compared to NOLA's 196 ; this difference was largely due to the near quadruple difference in factor of passing yards between both teams. The number of first downs was also a big difference as PHI had 22 first downs, while NOLA had only 12. PHI had 7 penalties for 75 yards, while NOLA only had 5 penalties for 60 yards. The time of possession discrepancy was also massive as BER only had TOP for 35 minutes, while NOLA had TOP for 25 minutes. The main reasons that led to NOLA winning this game was winning the turnover battle. NOLA won the turnover battle 2-0 which in defensive games like these is the difference between victory and defeat. The two turnovers for PHI were interceptions deep in NOLA territory that led to both stopping TD drives that would have led to a defeat for us as PHI was starting to drive deep in the second half. A great close game victory for us that we can greatly improve from as well for the future!

That should wrap up the third of the weekly reviews of my first season with NOLA. The fourth one should be close and ready to go ASAP! See you soon again!
