*s36 Draft from a DSFL point of view - Alikh - 06-19-2022

Post draft I thought it might be a little interesting to take a look at what the results looked like from a DSFL point of view.  Two things in particular interested me… how did the first round break down by their DSFL team of origin, and secondly, what did the average draft pick number per DSFL team look like?  Well, here is how it all breaks down:  (note, this is quick, and high level.  It does not take into consideration how many players were eligible from a team, extenuating circumstances, etc)

There were 79 picks in the s36 ISFL draft.  In the first round, obviously 14 selections were made.

Four first rounders came from Norfolk (1, 7, 10, 14)
Three first rounders came from London (8, 11, 12)
Two first rounders came from Kansas (2, 9)
The other five picks came one each from the remaining teams.

In this draft Norfolk and London clearly produced the most desired users/players for the first round, accounting for nearly half of the first round between the two of them.  Kansas only had one more selection from its ranks than the teams with only one, but one of these was the second overall pick, impressive in its own right.

The second metric I was curious about was what was the average overall pick number for each DFSL team this draft?  Now, full disclaimer, I didn’t not go down way in the weeds with statistics here to even all the numbers out.  Each DSFL team was represented with 7 to 11 drafts from within their ranks.  Six of the eight teams all had 10 or 11 drafted, so for the sake of quick math I made the decision that they were weighted closely enough for the numbers to have meaning in relation to each other.

Below is a graph of the average “value” of the draftees this year, grouped by their DSFL team.

Norfolk once again tops the chart here with an average draft value of pick 27.  London, who was number two for first rounders, falls into the middle of the pack here with an average value of pick 38.  Kansas, who slid into third place in the first rounders with two picks, narrowly edges ahead of London with an average pick of 35.64.  An interesting note here is that Minnesota, who only had a single first rounder come from their team still maintained a very solid showing across the draft, landing in second place with a pick value of 32.78.

I didn’t post these stats with the intent of looking too much into them (only looking at one years draft, not taking into consideration any non-numerical draft decisions, etc), but found it an interesting quick high level view at how the different DSFL rosters performed in the s36 draft. Based purely on these two stats alone, I would declare that Norfolk had the best showing, with London and Kansas tied for second place this year.
