*DSFL Players of the Week: July 04-July 10 - Michiganonymous - 07-12-2022

IThe DSFL Awards Committee is proud to present the DSFL Players of the Week, and only slightly late! My goal is to post these Monday night or Tuesday morning, before the next calendar week of DSFL games kicks off, but I had a few other things going on and we didn’t get there. No matter, here we go!

This is for the calendar week of July 04-July 10, which incorporates Weeks 2, 3, and 4 within the sim.

Offensive Player: MIN QB Owen Farrell
Key Stats: 63/94 (67.0%), 826 yds, 11 TD, 0 INT

Weeks 2-4 are in the books and we have a stunning QB in Owen Farrell to discuss. Owen is the committee’s choice for Offensive Player of the Week for his continued efforts of throwing it deep consistently and often. With a 67% pass completion and 11 TDs over the last three games, it’s a no-brainer. Farrell looked solemnly at his 6-INT Week 1 performance and said “never again” as he’s the only QB to not throw an interception during this time as well! With a crazy high AdjY/A (Adjusted Yards pet Attempt) of 11.18, it’s likely that any passing attempt that he threw up would be a first down. His average passer rating over this stretch of time is 127.2, pretty high for even one game of play and solidifies him as our top offensive player this calendar week. A gunslinger at heart, it’s time for the league to be on notice for his redemption tour.

Defensive Player: POR LB Monty Ward
Key Stats: 32 tackles, 2 TFL, 3 sacks, 1 forced turnover

Monty Ward was a one-man army for the Pythons defense this past week, racking up the tackles all over the field as he seemed to be everywhere at one. He led his team in tackles two out of three games, and led all players in total tackles for the week. The highlight for Ward was Game 3, a 25-10 win over Bondi Beach where he recorded a whopping 16 tackles, shutting down the Buccaneers’ rushing attack almost by himself. He also got into the opposing backfield for 2 TFLs and a sack, and showed impressive strength and awareness to punch the ball out of BBB running back Belle Delphine Jr.’s hands and fall on it himself fit the turnover. Portland fans have to be excited to see what else the incredibly talented rookie can do for the Pythons this season!

Special Teams Player: KCC RET Mandrews McHollywood
Key Stats: 9 KR, 251 KR yds, 1 TD (105 yds)

Another game, another stellar special teams performance from Mandrews McHollywood. What else do we expect? This week, McHollywood, the Miami alumni, captured an elusive return touchdown, which would’ve won him this award alone. But, he went even farther above that! He had 251 yards on 9 returns, that is an average of 27.8 yards per return, which is outstanding! So, our special teams player of the week is Mandrews McHollywood! Watch out opposing special teams.
