*dreamSloth's lazy mock draft for S38 - DREAMSLOTH - 09-29-2022

Alrighty, I'm low on time and high on interest, so what do you say we do a mock draft for like.. I dunno, however many rounds I can fit in a 30-minute window? You're welcome in advance for this legit mock draft that will absolutely be correct no matter what.

AUS
1.1 - Caleb Hayden, LB

Austin would benefit from continuing to revamp their defense. It may not be evident from their 2-14 record (woof!) in S37, but Austin's offense is actually coming together. Sure, Austin will need to draft a QB again soon, though I'd argue there are more pressing needs since TE82 is one of the top TPE players at the position.

Austin has solid young players that have already begun to emerge as leaders at their positions, including Dolores Bickerman (WR) and Ozomataz Buckshank (RB). Getting one of the top new create LBs in this class gives Austin the shot in the arm it needs in their defensive front seven.

COL
1.2 - Cruella de Ville, LB

Longtime user Exilizer gets taken second off the board. They're the second LB in TPE for this class, Exilizer is a known quantity, and Colorado needs to bolster an LB corps that has a lot of room for growth. Similar to Austin, Colorado's young offense is coming together. They just need the defense to step up this coming season.

NYS
1.3 - NYS - Walrus Jones, OL

New York is on a slow but sure growth curve, ending the season one win better than their S36 campaign. New York has other needs, namely on the defensive side of the ball, so it's possible they take Schwarz or another young star to fortify another position of need. I think New York could benefit from adding what would be their only human OL to the roster, however, protecting their max earning QB and paving the way for other offensive stars to shine.

SJS
1.4 - Tank McGibbons, LB

User MikeWhiskey has emerged as another top-end new create LB. Given the value for these kind of players in recent drafts, and with San Jose being in a similar situation as the other teams listed above, the Sabercats grab one of the best remaining front seven options. San Jose in particular only has one LB over 500 TPE, and Bam Bam McMullet is on their way to the glue factory (and possibly HOF). No time like the present to rebuild the LB roster for SJS.

OCO
1.5 - Zavier Perkins, LB

This class is top-heavy with LB talent, and OCO capitalizes on the opportunity here. With the aging Bender Rodriguez being the only LB over 400 TPE on this roster, OCO builds up a unit in need of quality support, and new user AK41 seems like they'll have a great ISFL career.

BER
1.6 - Aiden Hutchinson Jr., DE

If the IRL equivalent is any comparison, Schwarz is in for a heck of a career as the first DE taken off the board. I could see Hutchinson Jr. getting called up immediately to fill the position given the needs on Berlin's end, complimenting a defense that is already likely to be terrifying on the frontlines for some time to come.

BAL
1.7 - Johnny Blaze Jr, WR

With Sconnie McSix all but departing in free agency and Luke Quick being on the wrong side of their football playing career, Baltimore is in desperate need of help at WR. In JBLAZE they get a longtime user and the top WR in the class, who is likely to be an immediate call-up for the Hawks.

OCO (via PHI)
1.8 - Brian Duke, LB

There was a big trade. You will hear about it for years to come, no doubt.

OCO decides to go ham with their LBs and full send for the defense. And why not? They're in a good spot just about everywhere else shy of their secondary, which is already being addressed. Makes sense for them to take the best remaining new create on defense.

CHI
1.9 - Casino Robin, CB

With Art Deco departing Chicago, the Butchers don't have much of a choice but to take a CB in the draft - who will likely get called up their first season - or sign an IA CB. Casino Robin is a good pick, but this is driven more by need than anything else. If Big Newff can keep things up with their activity and updates, this will turn into a great selection for Chicago.

NOLA
1.10 - Remi Musgrave-Smythe, OL

The ostrich-farming billionaire can do it all. He can farm. He can ride ostriches. He can be rich. And he can.. fill in the gaps for an offensive line that has many.

Musgrave-Smythe is the top remaining OL and one of only two non-GM actives still in the draft at this point. NOLA needs an OL and this is where they have to take one. Good pickup to support a cast of rising stars on offense.

HON
1.11 - Sledge Hammer, DE

Everything is fine, don't worry!

As the fire sale continues, Honolulu starts their rebuild with the first of the two Hammer Bros. User H0PPY75 has proven to be a leader in this class and will make a nice addition - if not an immediate callup - for the living graveyard that is Honolulu's zombified defensive line.

YKW
1.12 - Shane Turnbull, WR

Yellowknife is managing an embarrasment of riches on both sides of the ball and will arguably be the franchise to watch over the next 4-5 seasons. With the core of this roster all but accounted for, Yellowknife turns to finding supplementary options to fill the next aging positions on their roster. Neither Maximillian Hamilton nor Cliff Burton are setting the world on fire with their earnings, leaving a gap that can be filled by a new addition once Bernd Brot finally hangs up the cleats.

I could see Yellowknife taking a QB in this slot as well now that Dustin Parmelee is finally dealing with the effects of regression, but he should be serviceable for a few more seasons at least. My money is on Yellowknife filling in the gap with Adrian St. Christmas until they have their successor at QB, so until then they may as well keep stocking up on weapons.

ARI
1.13 - Jeff Newman, WR (pick order dependent on Ultimus result)

Just about the only positions of need in the coming seasons for Arizona are QB and WR. With Wendell Sailor still a season away from regression and only two receivers on the roster S31 or younger, Arizona goes for the best available at the position with Jeff Newman. Lumosityfan might be broke right now but they're also a vet, so this could be a great long-term pick for the Outlaws.

SAR
1.14 - Gore Done Ram Say, QB (pick order dependent on Ultimus result)

The Carter/Bozo Knight era in Sarasota is finally nearing its end, and with that it is time to look to the future for a new signal caller. About time, if you ask me.

For real though, QB options are limited this draft and Sarasota elected to convert S36 draftee Pete Zuh to a RB, so there's no better time than now to fill the need. Especially true when looking at user deadlunatic, a recreate with plenty of promise as a career QB option.

Rounds 2 - 4 or whatever

Sorry I couldn't do more, Zayn. Looks like you'll have to do some research on your own Sad
