*Mock U III: Tokyo Draft (ISFL S38 Mock Draft: Rounds 1 and 2) - Twenty6 - 09-29-2022

Note to Grader: If possible, please wait until bonus media pay to grade.  By rule, I had to push this out before the Ultimus ends.  If not possible, then so be it.  Thank you!

Right this way!  The tour of Mock University begins right now!  Mock University, or MockU, is a place of mocking.  No no, I don't mean belittling mimicry.  Mocking as in predicting who the ISFL teams will draft in the upcoming season.  Today's tour will take you to the more artistic branch of the school.  To the right, you will see a small gathering of students in our open-air dance studio.  The signature dance we teach is the Mockarena, but if you're more into ballroom stuff, we do offer Moxtrot classes.  Approaching our left is our art history program.  We specialize mostly in symbolism, namely pick-tograms.  Let's listen in on the professor for a couple of rounds.

Disclaimer
The picks I made for this mock draft are based on a combination of the following: positional need, the amount of the player's TPE, and the size of the player's bank account.  The picks generally do not factor in relationships, scouting conversations, trades, changes in position, or available free agents.  Therefore, do NOT use this as a reference for your First Round Picks task.

Bigger Disclaimer
You'll hear this a lot because it's true: WHERE YOU GET PICKED DOES NOT DICTATE HOW WELL YOU WILL DO.  A FIRST ROUND PICK DOES NOT GET MAGICAL BENEFITS; A FOURTH ROUND PICK SUFFERS NO PENALTY.  THE PROGRESS OF YOUR PLAYER IS ENTIRELY DRIVEN BY YOUR DESIRE TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS LEAGUE WHETHER YOU'RE 1OA OR MR. IRRELEVANT.

01.01 (01): AUS AUS — LB Caleb Hayden (KCC) @Caleb_H
With the first overall pick, the Austin Copperheads select... LB Caleb Hayden of the Kansas City Coyotes!  Hayden was arguably the premiere linebacker in the DSFL last season.  Not only was he everywhere on the field, but he was everywhere on the field.  Hayden collected 110 tackles, of which 14 were TFLs and 9 were sacks.  Not only was he a force on the ground, but he also covered the aerial zone around him, boasting 9 PDs and a superb low Catch% of 49.35%.  With the Copperheads' lack of defensive presence last season, Hayden would be a welcome sight in their ranks.  Because of the age of Austin's LB corps, do not be surprised if we see Hayden lining up in that second level in S38.

01.02 (02): COL COL — DE Aidan Hutchinson Jr. (MINN) @SchwarzNarr
The Yeti eked out another 5-win season, but with a Point Differential of -127, they found themselves bringing up the rear in the NSFC.  The good news is their offensive skills positions are young and improving.  The bad news is the majority of their defense is aging.  With the second overall pick, Colorado strengthens the trenches by selecting Hutchinson Jr.  In his rookie year, Hutchinson Jr. amassed 3 TFLs, 8 sacks, and 1 ever-rare safety.  While the Yeti still have many defensive holes to fill, this pick is a big step in the right direction.  With the retirement of Emperor de Pengu, Hutchinson Jr. could step in right away.

01.03 (03): NYS NYS — DE Sledge Hammer (DAL) @H0PPY75
QB Savage and RB McTurtle had great years, and WR McHollywood will definitely be a star, but the offense alone couldn't provide New York a winning season.  The GMs are in a small dilemma here.  Do they address a non-existent O-line or a non-existent DL?  Considering the league can use cyborgs as O-linemen, I foresee the Silverbacks here tending to the defensive line by selecting Sledge Hammer.  With the call-up of their DE pick from last season (Bay Webb), the infusion of these two players is already a massive upgrade from the d-line that New York currently fields.

01.04 (04): SJS SJS — LB Cruella de Ville (LON) @Exilizer
San Jose's LB corps is getting up in years, with two of three soon needing to be replaced.  Fortunately, the SaberCats are in perfect position to do so, and they snag Cruella de Ville.  With her Dalmation fur fortune still sitting snugly in her bank, de Ville's progression will only be trending in the upward direction.  She may not get the call right away, but look for her to make a splash sooner than later.

01.05 (05): OCO OCO — LB Tank McGibbons (DAL) @MikeWhiskey
Orange County had a wild season.  They swept Honolulu, San Jose, and New York, but lost to Berlin.  Also, there was something about a trade, but whatever.  The Otters have a need at LB and decide to snap up Tank McGibbons.  McGibbons is actually a very interesting player for Orange County.  Yes, the Otters are lacking in the LB department, but adding an OL wouldn't hurt them either.  McGibbons is actually a LB converted from an OL, so depending on how each party feels, we could see him on either the offense or the defense.

01.06 (06): BER BER — WR Johnny Blaze Jr (KCC) @JBLAZE_THE_BOSS
Berlin surprised the league with 7 wins last season, and we've heard this all year: the defense is gonna be good.  They were already pretty decent last year, ranking 3rd in PPG allowed, 5th in YPG allowed, and 3rd and passing yards per game allowed.  Maybe if the offense showed up more often, they'd have racked up even more wins.  Being bottom 3 in PPG, YPG, and rushing YPG isn't going to cut it.  The Fire Salamanders' receiving corps is pretty sparse, with Abed possibly having to play in a wheelchair next season.  They look to inject some youth into the position and go with Johnny Blaze Jr.  Not only did Blaze Jr rack up 1,251 yards and 8 TDs, he tied the DSFL lead in pancakes with 20.

01.07 (07): BAL BAL — WR Shane Turnbull (DAL) @Symmetrik
The Hawks hop on the WR train and grab one of their own.  With Luke Quick getting on in years and Graf soon to be hitting regression, McSix will need some help in the future, and Baltimore provides that by nabbing Shane Turnbull.  He'll likely need another season of conditioning in the DSFL (10 dropped passes), but the player's rate of improvement is promising.

01.08 (08): OCO OCO (from PHI) — CB Casino Robin (POR) @Big Newff
Wait, OCO (pronounced "OH-co") is back on the clock?  They got a first round pick from PHI?  Why wasn't anyone made aware of this so they could talk about this for years to come?  Well, due to this administrative error, the Otters get to address another need in their defense and take CB Casino Robin.  With Bruckner on his last legs, he'll need someone to fill his shoes, and Robin fits the bill.  Not only was he rob(b)in' the casino, he was practically playing receiver for opposing QBs by garnering an eye-opening 7 INTs and 2 defensive TDs for the season.

01.09 (09): NOLA NOLA — OL Walrus Jones (MINN) @caravaggio
Sound the alarms!  New Orleans made the playoffs with a negative point differential!  Was the problem on the offensive or defensive side?  Based on league rankings, the Second Line were 11th in offensive PPG and 5th in defensive PPG, so with that information, they go with a trusty O-lineman.  Walrus Jones currently heads the S38 class in TPE and is about to receive a fat stack of cash in his bank account, so don't count on him fading away.  The Stig will definitely welcome Jones with open arms as he hopes this will open up more running lanes.

01.10 (10): CHI CHI — CB Jimmy Jeeta (DAL) @QuirkyTurtle
With the departure of all their CBs, Chicago goes with their best option on the board in Jimmy Jeeta.  While he may not have had the INTs of Casino Robin, Jeeta still had a respectable 20 PDs on the year.  Another plus with this pick is his big bank, so expect him to shoot up in progression over this offseason.  He likely will need at least another season in the DSFL to develop, but his future looks bright.

01.11 (11): HON HON — LB Zavier Perkins (BBB) @AK41
Honolulu's reign of dominance may have come to an end, at least for the time being.  Now is the time for the Hahalua to stock up on talent for the future and there is no better way to start than the centerpiece of the defense, the linebacker.  They take Zavier Perkins, arguably the 1b to Caleb Hayden's 1a in S37.  A very well-rounded player, Perkins tallied 94 tackles, 13 of which were TFLs and 5 of which were sacks.  He also got himself 2 INTs within his 7 PDs.

01.12 (12): YKW YKW — QB Gore Done Ram Say (TIJ) @deadlunatic
QB Parmelee will taste his second season of regression, and with nobody waiting in the wings, Yellowknife's best option would probably be to take a QB now.  Fortunately, there is one for them, and only one, and they snap up Gore Done Ram Say.  Ram Say did not have a particularly good year, throwing 17 TDs to 21 INTs, but TIJ was a young team last season, and a young team will go through its growing pains.  The Wraiths' acquisition of Ram Say at least plugs a future hole and crosses a concern off their list.

01.13 (13): ARI AZ (merely using away team as loser) — OL Remi Musgrave-Smythe (TIJ) @37thchamber
Arizona's roster is pretty robust.  They're right on the precipice of having needs, and those could arguably be QB, DL, and S.  Since the lone QB of the draft is gone and DL and S are a bit lower on their board, they choose to bolster their OL with Remi Musgrave-Smythe.  R(A)MS is a dedicated user and should be a pillar of the offensive line for the length of his career.

01.14 (14): SAR SAR (merely using home team as winner) — LB Bridge Burner (KCC) @BOOM™
Sarasota is another team with a robust roster.  The one need they have is LB, and with this LB-rich draft class, they are still able this late to acquire a good one in Bridge Burner.  Burner had a good all-around season, doing a bit of everything as evidenced by this stat line: 81 tackles, 12 TFLs, 8 sacks, 2 FFs, 2 FRs, 5 PDs, 2 INTs, and 1 TD.  With this type of production in just his rookie year, look for Burner to be a force when he eventually suits up for the Sailfish.

02.01 (15): AUS AUS — DT Carly Rae Jensen (LON) @unconfident
Round 2 begins with Austin handcuffed into taking Carly Rae Jensen.  Yeah, she just met you, and this is crazy, but rules are rules. (Since AUS has to make a GM pick this early in the round, during the actual draft we will probably see the Copperheads trade back.  As I neither have the brain power nor the inside knowledge of team interactions to predict trade partners, we're just gonna do this straight up.)

02.02 (16): COL COL — LB Brian Duke (KCC) @AlbanianValor
Colorado gets to address another top need in the second round thanks to this LB-rich draft class.  They are still able this late to acquire a good one in Brian Duke.  Duke led the league in tackles, with 12 TFLs and 3 sacks.  He may still be too raw to jump into the ISFL, but with another year in the DSFL, he may emerge to be the primary wrecking ball of the Yeti's LB corps.

02.03 (17): NYS NYS — LB GOAT TANNK (BBB) @Eldorian
Speaking of good LBs, even New York gets to take one at Pick 17 with GOAT TANNK.  TANNK appears to be the successor of Sakeem Webb, who is getting his first hit of regression.  TANNK was like a signal jammer for BBB.  Most of the passes that went his way never made it to the intended receiver.  He posted a Catch% against rate of 48.84%, lowest in the league.  He also swatted 12 passes, highest among LBs.  The scary thing is he is primarily a pass rusher.  If he's this adept at defending the air, what chance does opposing offenses have?  Purportedly when he was asked about this, his response was, "GOAT TANNK."

02.04 (18): SJS SJS — WR Teenie Hodges (NOR) @Billybolo53
With their second pick of the draft, the SaberCats turn to offense and select a wide receiver.  Hodges garnered 1,209 yards and 8 TDs on 70 receptions.  He also had the longest play of the season with a 96-yard catch-and-run.  As Sam the Onion Man prepares to begin his secondary career at Chili's as Sam the Awesome Blossom Man, San Jose gets a huge playmaker to soon take his spot.

02.05 (19): PHI PHI (from OCO) — OL Fortified Fridge (LON) @"BaconBrother"
So Philadelphia has a pick here due to some mysterious trade.  With three of their five offensive linemen beginning to age, the Liberty use this pick to further their cement their status as the only team to field a full contingent of human offensive linemen.  Fortified Fridge should be more than up to the task.  Last season, he (it?) had 63 pancakes and ZERO sacks allowed.  Furthermore, he has plenty of pancakes within him for teammates that get hungry during the game.

02.06 (20): BER BER — S Diggs Sideline-touchdown (KCC) @Dewalt27
Now Berlin takes a turn with a forced pick as they take Diggs Sideline-touchdown.

02.07 (21): BAL BAL — RB Armor Queen (BBB) @Starboy
Baltimore's dual threat in the backfield is beginning to lose a step.  Goose will taste his fourth regression and King his third.  Here, the Hawks take Armor Queen to succeed them.  Queen was arguably the #1 RB of S37.  She ran for 1,624 yards (1st) and 14 TDs (T-1st).  She was definitely the workhorse for Bondi Beach and should take over for Goose quite seamlessly when the time arises.

02.08 (22): PHI PHI — DT Teddy Rhinoback (POR) @kaleb356
Philadelphia would ideally look for a QB here, but with none on the board, they go to their second pressing need: the defensive line.  The Liberty select Teddy Rhinoback to potentially take over for old man Lucid Dreams.  Rhinoback was a clear top-tier DT in S37.  Despite being a glamour-less position, he still managed to tally 6 TFLs and 4 sacks on 45 tackles.  With this type of production anchoring the middle, look for opposing offenses to be forced to run away from this big fella.

02.09 (23): NOLA NOLA — TE Bastian Weichselbraun (POR) @PDXBaller
More beef for The Stig!  New Orleans uses their second pick to take TE Bastian Weichselbraun.  Weichselbraun is not merely a tight end; he is a blocking tight end!  The running lanes are getting wider and wider for Stig.  Weichselbraun himself was a force in his inaugural year with Portland.  Despite his nature, he was a big end-zone target, catching 7 TD passes.  This flexibility could bode well for the Second Line in the future.  Opposing defenses will have to determine quickly whether Weichselbraun is really blocking or faking it to leak out for a pass.

02.10 (24): CHI CHI — OL Painted Penguin (MINN) @Painted
Chicago makes the final required pick of the draft and selects Painted Penguin.  Poor Butchers.

02.11 (25): AUS AUS (from HON) — K/P Booter McGavin (DAL) @ajtigger
Austin's third pick in the first two rounds!  The Copperheads opt to go for K/P Booter McGavin here.  With Leroy barely able to kick, and their developmental kicker not developing, McGavin seems to be the wise choice.  He may outright start for the Copperheads in S38!

02.12 (26): YKW YKW — WR Jeff Newman (LON) @Lumosityfan
WR is a fringe need for Yellowknife, but a user with high TPE is hard to pass up on.  The Wraiths select Jeff Newman.  With continued development, Newman should soon surpass the two IA receivers Burton and Hamilton.  Newman was WR1 for the London Royals and was a first-down machine, with 58% of his catches moving the sticks.  His 10 drops is a slight concern but another year with London should rectify that issue.

02.13 (27): ARI AZ — RB Sherwin Blue Jr. (KCC) @Kotasa
New GM Kotasa wants to bring in "his guys" and tries to oust Jay Cue Jr. by selecting Sherwin Blue Jr.  What kind of toxicity is the new GM trying to spread?  Is this what Crunk toiled away for?  Stay tuned for the next episode of "The Days of Outlaws."

02.14 (28): SAR SAR — CB Reshad Morris (BBB) @SwagSloth
Sarasota's CB corps is beginning to thin out, so they take Reshad Morris.  Morris had a very respectable rookie year, most notably with a Catch% of 54%, 3 sacks, zero missed tackles (out of 50), 2 INTs, and 1 TD.  The Sailfish's current nickelback PickSix II is likely playing his last year with them, if at all.  With another year to progress, Morris can easily slide into that slot for their defense.

Okie doke, folks!  Let's step back outside as this concludes our tour!  As you can see, mock drafts are a form of art in itself.  We hope you found the campus pleasant!  If you make a wide turn up ahead on your way out, you'll pass the construction department where you can grab yourselves a free Big Board.  Maybe we'll see you this fall!

RE: Mock U III: Tokyo Draft (ISFL S38 Mock Draft: Rounds 1 and 2) - caravaggio - 09-30-2022

7 Linebackers going in the first 17 picks? Oh yeah, I can absolutely see that this draft.

Awesome write-up, entertaining to read!
