BALTIMORE, MD

In his first professional football game, the Baltimore Hawks rookie kicker performed quite alright from distance - going 3 of 4 on field goals - but his struggles at the extra point proved to be the key factor in preventing the team from getting a surprise trip to overtime. His critical miss of the tying extra point with 1:25 left in the game meant that the Hawks went home the losers to Berlin, 31-30. Makmur was noticeably upset in the locker room after the game, and was not made available to reporters.

"Honk honk honk honk," said his teammate and fellow Rutgers alum Busch Goose. "Honk honkhonk honky honk honk, honk honk honk hoonk? Honk honk honk."

While critical of his teammate, Goose made sure to mention that he does not blame the loss on Makmur, a sentiment shared by others on the team.

Regardless, it appears that the criticism from his teammates and by Hawk fans across the world was heard loud and clear by the young placekicker. Makmur posted on his personal Instagram page the next day seemingly motivated to right his wrongs.

The post shows Makmur at his house practicing kicks - it is unclear what he is kicking at as we cannot confirm if he has posts in his yard or if he is just recklessly causing his neighbors property damage. But it does show his dedication towards perfecting his craft and showing Hawks nation that he was worth the draft pick.

The practice seems to have paid off - Makmur went a perfect 4/4 from the extra point line and netted a 31 yard field goal on top of that for 7 points on the day, helping the Hawks take a surprise upset over the Philadelphia Liberty, 31-26.

With their first game seemingly within reach and a surprise victory in their second game, the Hawks might be better than the tank that most came into the season expecting. Rookie quarterback Preston Beatz has been performing well for his youth - but we here at The Specialist will keep our eyes peeled on his young rookie teammate and kicker.
