Hiring: Sim Balance Testers - Pat - 12-08-2022

Note: This a cross post from the Announcements forum because I'm dumb and didn't realize it wouldn't get picked up by the bot.

Hello ISFLers!

It's been a while since the last update from the Sim Balance Team, but we're here today to outline a project that we are in the process of kicking off.

The makers of our current sim recently released their latest yearly installment of the franchise: Draft Day Sports Pro Football 2023. We've had a brief look at the game and we believe it might be a good candidate for upgrading. But before the league can make the call as to whether we go down that path, we need to invest a lot more time exploring what the sim can do, what advantages it gives us, what the downsides would be, and test test test!

Before GMs panic about their strategies and players' builds being thrown out the window, rest assured that we will be taking our sweet time with this. If we were to pursue a sim transfer, we would be looking to make the change in Season 43 at the very earliest, so at least 7-8 months from now. The reasons for that are as follows:

* Allows us more than enough time to evaluate whether this is the right move for the league
* Allows us to wait until the final patch has been released (typically mid-late March) to avoid any surprise tweaks from the developers
* Allows us to confirm and announce all changes at least 1 full season in advance

But before we get too ahead of ourselves, our immediate goal is to evaluate the new game, figure out what advantages it could offer and also think about what we could tweak about our current structure. So with that in mind, we will be taking applications for new members of the team to help us work on this exercise and beyond!

We are looking for users who:

* Take an interest in overall league health and making sure that gameplay is fair and balanced even when that interest runs counter to maximizing your own team/player's performance.
* Have experience with sim testing for DDSPF21. Bonus points for understanding how to edit and import roster files.
* Are comfortable analyzing data and extracting conclusions from it to guide decision making.
* Are extremely familiar with all aspects of the current sim, including attributes, traits, strategy settings, depth charts etc

If you don't meet all of those criteria, but you think our work sounds cool anyway, I highly recommend you reach out and apply anyway! We would love to talk to anyone interested in our work about potential ways to contribute.

If you would like to apply, feel free to reach out on Discord to Swanty or Slate with answers to the following questions:

1. What is your experience in terms of sim leagues, both the ISFL and others, especially with regards to recent league jobs and sim testing?
2. What is an area of the league that you feel is currently unbalanced, and what would you propose as a potential course of action as part of a potential sim swap to balance it?
3. What aspect of the Sim Balance Team's work would you be most excited to work on?

Applications will close Tuesday December 13th. We will aim to make hiring decisions within the next week or so after that. If you have any questions about the position or the Sim Balance Team in general, please feel free to DM us.

Just highlighting one part of this so that Pat isn't deluged with Discord DMs while out of town on vacation this weekend:
