*Blown Away in the Windy City - ComebackZak - 12-10-2022

Frank Dux was surrounded by his friends, family, and agent Tugg Speedman for his International Simulation Football League Draft Party. He went with a casual look and was wearing a Minnesota Grey Ducks hoodie and Wisconsin hat. Tugg had alluded that there were many possibilities with the draft having been through the process himself. Mock drafts had Frank going anywhere from the fourth overall pick to somewhere in the second or third although that was not very likely. Tugg had assured Frank that he would most likely go in the first and to not let anything get to him. Once that draft timer started, everything went quiet to Frank.

The first overall pick by the Honolulu Hahalua was pretty expected as they selected cornerback Seth Leavitt. The highly touted defensive back from the Kansas City Coyotes. Frank knew this wasn’t where he was going to go due to the team never bringing him in for a scouting visit. Still the unknown was there and Frank was riddled with anxiety and excitement. Next pick…

The second overall pick was by the Colorado Yeti. Based on the pre-draft scouting visit, Frank knew that they were likely going to go defense here and they sure did. With their pick, the Yeti selected Waylen Green, the defensive end standout from the Dallas Birddogs. Frank’s nerves were slowly settling and he was growing less tense. Next pick…

The third overall pick was by the Orange County Otters. Based on the pre-draft scouting visit, it was known that Frank was most likely not being selected by the Otters at this position as there was a defensive need that was going to be prioritized. Following suit of the first two picks, the Otters selected linebacker Sim Sunigh of the Kansas City Coyotes. Following this selection and seeing the Chicago Butchers show up on the screen built up that anxiety again as this was one of the most productive scouting visits Frank went on. This was also a team that Tugg mentioned could be the team that selects him. It was thought that it was going to be between Chicago and Baltimore as they were the most in need of a running back. Next pick…

The phone rings...and everything goes silent to Frank. While everyone stares at the phone, all sound ceases to exist as he reaches for it. Frank picks up the phone, stands up, and starts to pace before answering. He hears a somewhat familiar voice. It’s the Chicago Butchers General Manager.

“Hey Frank, how do you feel about moving out here to Chicago and becoming a Butcher?”

Frank is at a loss for words however he manages to respond with, “sounds great sir, nothing I would love more.”

“Alright son, we’re going to take you here at the number 4 pick and we’ll be in touch following the draft to get you situated and out here to the facilities.”

“Sounds good sir, I look forward to getting to work and putting the red and black on.”

As soon as the phone call ended, Frank turned around to see his name on the big screen tv with his family screaming. All of a sudden the sound of everyone celebrating hit him and he was overcome with happiness. He immediately hugged his dad and finally showed that he had what it takes to become an ISFL player. Exceeding even his own expectations of being selected in the top five, Frank has realized one goal and now has even more to set and accomplish with the biggest hurdle out of the way. After giving Frank time to celebrate with his family, Tugg and Frank finally embraced and knew the next couple of days would be a whirlwind but one they were excited to undertake together as agent and player.

There was a lot of uncertainty heading into this draft and self-doubt that crept in. Frank was a sure fire first rounder however he let some rumors and mock drafts doubt himself. However, now that he has gone number four overall his confidence is up and is ready to prove himself at the next level. Frank was convinced he would be the second pick running back to go behind the very talented Jake Williams of the Tijuana Luchadores. Funny enough, Willie Miller of the London Royals was the actual second running back taken by the Sarasota Sailfish. Jake Wiliams went after him to the Baltimore Hawks which saw the run of three very talented running backs end.

Overall, this was definitely the place that Frank wanted to be. Chicago is an incredible city and the running back pedigree within the team is one that excites Frank a lot. He looks forward to eventually taking the reins of the franchise from Lalu Muhammad Zohri at the running back position and bringing a second championship to the city.

In the wise and definitely humble words of Deion "Prime" Sanders, "I'M COMING".
