ISFL Twitter Announcement - Painted - 02-08-2023
Hello all,
I sadly have to post this today bringing bad news, and I will get straight to the point:
Starting tomorrow, 02/09/2023, tweets made for the ISFL will no longer be able to be paid out.
I will run the scraper one last time tonight, 02/08, around 10pm EST to let everyone who is still tweeting one final payout.
As you may have seen already talked about via the league or other places in social media like Twitter itself, starting tomorrow Twitter is no longer allowing access to their API for free. What this means is, we will have no easy or free way of interacting with Twitter, specifically being able to scrape tweets which was used in determining who tweeted and when to then be used for the payouts. While I tried to look for alternatives, I did not end up finding anything, personally.
I am pretty upset by this since I found Twitter to be a very fun part of the league. It was super easy to use, just requiring one tweet a day for a little extra cash to help with slower earners or people just starting out. Not only that, but it was great for being able to role play in character, crack jokes, or even trash talk other teams. I personally loved seeing the interactions of other users and twitter battles between the players or even team accounts!
But now, with little incentive to keep tweeting, we probably won't see much more of that on Twitter. League Leadership and HO have been trying to find an alternative medium for engagement with the league and further recruitment/outreach for a little while now, but the Twitter API announcement will expedite that, so I have hope we will find an alternative soon.
I once again apologize for Twitter's incompetence, but I do want to thank you for using Twitter in the first place! Even if the platform was not the best, each one of you made it great and I appreciated your patience ever since I have taken over as Twitter Head. I know certain transitions such as using the #ISFLsim were rough for some, but to everyone who was able to take place in the ISFL twitter and especially those who have still stuck around, THANK YOU!!

Once again -- and I cannot stress this enough -- Elon Musk is a terrible person.
