*Prospect Bowl Day 3 Standout Performances-Defense - WrittinDirectino - 02-15-2023

The Prospect Bowl is a great opportunity for rookies to showcase their skills and talent against each other. Day 3 of the Prospect Bowl has finished, and that means we are truly close to the draft. How exciting! Here are some standout defensive performances from the third and final day. Most of these players aren't your usual, highly rated prospects. Could their stocks improve with these performances? Read and find out.

Luca Rossi, DT vs Centurions: 4 Tackles
The stats initially look pretty underwhelming, but his tape illustrates his strengths perfectly. Rossi is a prototypical run stopper who uses quick feet and active hands to move blockers away. He was lost chasing the quarterback on one play but that's the exception rather than the norm. He has excellent tackling technique and had some plays where he stopped the running back completely in his tracks. Rossi was part of why two of the Centurions’ top rushers were held to just 3.6 and 2.8 yards per carry. He’s more of a run stopper than a pass rusher but there were flashes of pass rush potential. He applied pressure on several snaps, although those pressures didn't lead to any big splash plays.
He showed he could play both inside and outside(3-Tech and 5-Tech), but the inside is where he’s better suited.

Bill Cravy, CB vs Centurions: 9 Tackles, 1 FF
Bill Cravy got beaten once for 17 yards on a throw by. He also let up 37 yards on a blown coverage, but I’m willing to chalk it up to a miscommunication issue-it’s the Prospect Bowl, and players haven’t  had the time to get to know each other’s tendencies and they aren’t completely familiar with the scheme yet. Outside of that, Cravy never gave up a big play.
Tackling is Bill Cravy’s specialty. Spartans never really pressed. They were mostly in some form of soft coverage, and the offense was able to get some quick short passes as the game went on. Cravy did a great job denying inside leverage and shutting down receivers. Strong fundamentals with fluid hip movement. On the times his receivers did get open, Cravy was fantastic after the catch, wrapping up the receiver the moment the ball was caught. He can also be hard hitter when he wants to. It will be interesting to see how he does in a more press-reliant scheme.

Albert Einstein, LB vs Mastodons: 6 Tackles, 2TFL, 1 PD
Einstein is a very well rounded, all over the field linebacker. He even showed flashes of good coverage ability, as evidenced by the pass breakup. It’s no surprise that one of Einstein’s biggest assets is what’s between his ears. He was able to identify the run immediately on two separate plays and break the play. Great instincts and plays like there's a GPS tracker on the ball, I have no doubts that he can hold his own against more complicated offensive concepts or option plays. Einstein also showcased his ability to blitz using his speed to shoot through the gap. Clean tackler. Overall, this performance showed he could be a capable Will Linebacker at the DSFL level.

Logjammed McBobface, DE vs Spartans: 5 Tackles, 2TFL, 1 Sack
Logjammed McBobface set the tone of the match on just the second play of the game, with a sack on Jack Jefferson. Using his speed to gain momentum, Logjammed used a clean rip move to get past the lineman. He would use the same move again in the 3rd quarter, chasing the quarterback out of the pocket. He also utilized a quick outside jab move to get around his man. We haven’t seen much of McBobface’s pass rush arsenal yet, but that might simply because he hasn’t needed one so far. Why use lot of moves when few moves do trick?
While pass rushing is McBobface’s bread and butter, he also did a great job setting the edge. On some snaps he would line up as the outside linebacker and drop into coverage. He looked pretty comfortable, but those snaps were pretty limited and I don’t want to put too much weight into them yet.
Overall, this performance showed he could be a star pass rusher in the DSFL.
