*Chap's Post-Draft Analysis - Charple - 02-16-2023 First time doing this, I wanted to give it a fair shot and tried to keep myself a bit agnostic from the results of the draft while I worked on the different sections. Due to this if anything seems like it lines up too well, please give me some benefit of the doubt because I am going to be doing this properly next season, along with a retrospective. This will include some notes on the team as a whole if I caught anything during my analysis. Team Needs This was written mainly from the perspective of the Pre-Draft and I treated it as such. I tried not to look at the draft prior to completing this section. Positions listed in order of importance Arizona Outlaws Defensive Tackle: ARI seems to rely on a very strong LB core, but their actual Defensive Line consisting of Defensive Tackles is a bit lacking, I would like to see them pick up a player early on to resolve this. Safety: Even though their CB unit is strong, ARI had a bottom half Pass Defense. Their Safety unit is is getting old, or are still developing. Either grabbing a Free Agent Safety or drafting one very early would be ideal. Tight End: ARI's current Tight End is approaching retirement and ARI will need to start thinking about the future for this position quick. Austin Copperheads Tight End: AUS lost their only Tight End to Free Agency, this is an immediate need. Offensive Line: Their rushing attack needs some help, this can either get resolved through a strong blocking Tight End or some Offensive Line players . Safety: This one wasn't as important, but their Safety unit is just a tad weak and are soon going to be Free Agents, some stable new blood will help. Baltimore Hawks Running Back: BAL only have one RB on their Roster, and they're old. Think for the future and pick one up in the RB heavy draft. Cornerback: BAL will need to fill out their CB unit to prepare for the next couple seasons. Tight End: Aging TE unit that will require a stronger player to take the helm. Linebacker: Young squad that may need some depth added. Berlin Fire Salamanders Defensive End: Have an open slot for this position to fill out their Defensive Line, will also need to beef up their Run Defense. Tight End: Need a stronger player to assist in Pass Protection or Receiving, Tight End would be as good fit. Cornerback / Wide Receiver / Running back: Grab any available players for depth or development. Chicago Butchers Linebacker: Their LB unit is aging, and aging fast! They have to prepare for the future and draft some LBs. Safety: Same case as their LBs, but not as important. Currently there is only one on the roster and they are approaching old. Wide Receiver: May need some depth pieces for the future. Colorado Yetis No draft picks so I didn't really examine them that much. Cape Town Crash This is a pretty solid team on paper Wide Receiver: Add some young talent and depth to their WR unit. Linebacker: Beef up their defensive side of the ball a bit more. Cornerback: Add more depth and youth to their roster, similar to WR. Honolulu Hahalua Defensive Tackle / Defensive End: Currently do not have any Defensive Linemen on their roster. Immediate need. Wide Receiver: I would like to see some depth added to this group, the current two WR are very good, but they will need some more bodies on the field. Safety: Aging Safety unit, will require attention depending on how reliant HON is on this position. New Orleans Second Line Wide Receiver / Tight End: Our passing game was rough last season and I would like to see some weapons added. Running Back: The Stig switched over to CB to help our Passing Defense, which left his spot vacant, some competition might be nice. Linebacker: Our LB unit is aging soon and we may want to grab some developmental piece for the future. New York Silverback On paper, NYS is an extremely strong team whose offense doesn't seem to be clicking. If they can fix whatever is causing that I would expect to see them in the Ultimus in the next 2-3 seasons. Defensive Tackle / Defensive End: Strong LB unit, but an aging and weak DL unit. NYS was especially weak against the rush. Offensive Line / Tight End: Adding some blocking capabilities might help their pass game a bit, look for a blocking tight end especially. Kicker/Punter: Late round development piece, couldn't find many holes in this roster. Orange County Otters Safety: Weak Safety unit, could use a strong rookie here. Linebacker: Weak or Aging players on here, Sim Sunigh could use some young company. Offensive Line / Tight End: Adding some blocking capability could help keep their Run game at the top condition it has been. Sarasota Sailfish Defensive Tackle / Defensive End / Linebacker: Depending on the Defensive Scheme that SAR uses, they could grab one of these positions to fill it out. Cornerback: Add some depth, a good Rookie could probably take the CB3 spot. Offensive Line / Wide Receiver / Safety: Mainly future development spots. San Jose Sabercats Defensive End: Immediate need to fill out their Defensive Line Wide Receiver: Add a depth or development piece Cornerback: Young squad, could grab another rookie to fill out their unit Yellowknife Wraiths Remains a strong squad, my favorites (sorry NOLA) to remain an Ultimus Champ Tight End: Need a strong player to fill out this spot S40 ISFL Draft I went through some trial and error at this stage, since I'll be splitting this up into parts and doing them at their appropriate stages next season I won't have to worry about this as much. At first I took their draft card information and used that to grade, but I noticed some conflicting information that was mainly resolved when I updated the draftee's information to current data. This included position swaps and TPE updates. Grades at this point are based on current (as of this post) data, and ignore who the User of the player is. Split into Teams Arizona Outlaws Round 1, Pick 13: Notso Smart, Safety @Pib I'm surprised Notso went this far in the draft. They will bring youth to an aging Safety unit, were the highest in their position and one of the highest in the draft. A nice instant starter with a long career ahead. Also fills in one of the needs I set out so bonus. Grade: A+ Round 2, Pick 27: Sir Tywrell Xah’Aawrone, Defensive Tackle @"Rapidsponge21" Another very good pickup for an, in my opinion, undervalued position. This will fill the main need in my analysis and Arizona outlaws have improved significantly from these two picks alone. Grade: A Round 3, Pick 41: Don Tollibeo, Wide Receiver @Jepox I would have liked to see an receiving threat Tight End go here, although Wide Receiver room will need some fresh blood down the line. Grade: B- Round 3, Pick 42: Jayme Jayne Jay-Jaymison, Kicker/Punter @"DGarrett32" At this point, Arizona has filled most of its needs and will be drafting for the far future, this is decent developmental pick. Grade: C Round 4, Pick 55: Jack Henderson, Cornerback @Solarslayer Not too many choices at this point, they grabbed the last cornerback. Neutral grade. Grade: C Austin Copperheads Round 1, Pick 10: Howard Coward, Running Back @JKortesi81 I was a bit surprised by this pick, but the more I look into it the more it makes sense. This was the best available Team need for them as an eventual replacement for their aging vet. Still would've liked to see Notso Smart go here Grade: B+ Round 2, Pick 24: Pegme Amidala, Tight End @scudmuffin19 This, in my analysis, was the more urgent team need. Grabbing this player was a bit of a reach and possibly could've been a good trade back opportunity. Either way, this player will eventually be the sure-handed safe receiver for their QB Grade: C+ Round 3, Pick 38: Mike Holiday, Safety @Dallypole Safeties started to drop like flies at this stage of the draft and they needed one for their developmental pick, I like the pick and it fills one of the needs. Grade: B- Round 4, Pick 52: Cole Mann, Kicker/Punter @EeSea Long-term Development need, will be competing against an aging player, Neutral score Grade: C Baltimore Hawks Round 1, Pick 2: Money Tolliver, Running Back @jeffie43 Looks like this player has swapped to a Running Back and for me that was the biggest need they had. This was a very RB Heavy draft and I believe they could've waited to the 4th Overall. Along with that, the on-paper stronger Receiving Back Tyler One went in the Third Round. I hope BAL doesn't come to regret this trade, but they got their guy. Grade: B Round 1, Pick 9: Wälter Gunther, Linebacker @KenitohMenara Had to update my original ranking after I checked on the current TPE of the player. This was a really good pickup and was worth the trade. Grade: A+ Round 2, Pick 18: Bourtol Halcomsby, Safety @ItsFrenchie They found the hidden potential in this safety and were correct in grabbing him ahead of the pack. Grade: B+ Round 2, Pick 22: Penger Tolliver, Tight End @Gwdjohnson Love the TE Pick here, though I would rather grab Basinger, prove me wrong Tolliver. Grade: B Round 3, Pick 32: Bengal Tigerheart, Offensive Line @shanghai_kid This player was a reach at draft, then exploded after. Extremely value pickup and will be a solid part of the BAL Offense. Grade: A+ Round 3, Pick 36: Quandale Dingle, Safety @McGriddy10 This player switched to Safety during/after the draft. I would've preferred a CB but there weren't that many in this draft Grade: C Round 4, Pick 46: Rocky Franklin lll, Quarterback @Roconator Developmental Pick, let's see where they go from here. Grade: B Berlin Fire Salamanders Round 1, Pick 4: Clint Mustache, Tight End @manicmav36 Best Deep Threat available and will help their passing game. Fills one of the main needs. Grade: A Round 2, Pick 16: KK Slider, Running Back @Vulfzilla Is Tyler One too toxic for teams? I thought he was reformed. Either way I sure hope K.K. got that DAWG in him. Grade: B- Round 2, Pick 20: Melvin Harris, Offensive Line @Attopax This was the best OL at the time of the draft, but not so much after Training Camp. I hope this pick works out for them in the long run. Grade: C Round 4, Pick 43: The Heavy, Offensive Line @TMosura Thought I would see a DL here, but BER would like to development the OL, neutral grade. Grade: C Round 4, Pick 44: Cape the Party Rhino, Running Back @SnowyWolfz Added Depth and developmental position, good choice from what was available. Grade: C+ Chicago Butchers : Round 1, Pick 12: Jimmy Ryder, Wide Receiver @AJW I would've like an LB here, but CHI opted for the best WR at the time of the draft. Grade: A- Round 3, Pick 31: Bobby Steel, Cornerback @Sarox Nice developmental player in a very limited position group in this draft, grade is a tad higher due to the limited pool of CBs. Grade: B- Round 3, Pick 40: Xavier Frost, Safety @LANEFROST This area was where most of the Safeties went and CHI had a need for them. Grade: B Round 4, Pick 49: Action Bronson, Defensive End @jackkmart Young insurance incase any DL players leave, nice pickup late in the draft. Grade: C+ Round 4, Pick 54: Malcolm Grimes, Wide Receiver @Southie I like that they are filling out their WR room a bit and this was a great value at this pick. Grade: A Colorado Yetis No Draft Picks Grade: N/A Cape Town Crash Round 1, Pick 7: Kairo Knight, Wide Receiver @Akoustique CTC is a strong team and I like the idea of adding in more weapons for their offense, I can see this player gunning for the WR3 spot soon. Grade: A Round 2, Pick 21: Mike Ehrmantraut, Wide Receiver @NYR73 They wanted more receivers and got more, I don't actually have an issue with the Wide Receiver double-up as they are overall a strong team that just some depth and developmental needs for the future. Grade: B Round 3, Pick 33: Ryan Lawrence, Defensive End @ThreeToeSloth Best DE available and may soon take the role from an aging veteran. Grade: B- Round 3, Pick 35: Nakiri Ayame, Running Back @ValorX77 I am surprised this player was available this long and CTC got a steal from this spot. Grade: A+ Round 3, Pick 37: Jake Basinger, Tight End @Drizzy Another example of HON grabbing good value late in the draft, will likely soon replace a veteran. Grade: B+ Honolulu Hahalua Round 1, Pick 1: Liv Elsathelookout, Linebacker @Bayley This was the best LB available, while LB wasn't on my Need list for HON, I believe they are still in somewhat of a rebuild phase and should be taking best available players they can. Grade: A Round 1, Pick 14: Florida Man, Wide Receiver @nickyvmlp This player ended up being a very strong player coming out of Training Camp, they will be a long lasting piece in the Offense and Special Teams for HON. Grade: A Round 2, Pick 28: Raya Ho’opa’i, Defensive Tackle @MMFLEX I can't help but think maybe a player got stolen out from under them before this pick, either way this was a good pickup and it's nice to see DTs get drafted. Grade: B Round 3, Pick 29: Lenny ’Extra’ Longpipe, Defensive Tackle @bigbluex02 Filling out their Line, HON seems to have wanted to play it safe and just grab the player rather than risk a trade down. Grade: C Round 3, Pick 30: Alita Battle Angel, Running Back @moonlight I hope HON knows something that I don't because there were much better Running backs available at this spot. Grade: F Round 4, Pick 48: Oliver O’Conner, Wide Receiver @SonicStarGaming At this area, getting a triple digit TPE player is value so good Developmental player. Grade: B- Round 4, Pick 53: Matthew Fryars, Safety @CyloSaynx Anything above 50 is above average at the stage of the draft. Grade: C+ Round 5, Pick 57: Cassius Holloway, Running Back @theone Mr. Irrelevant, go and prove all the other teams wrong, Neutral Score. Grade: C New Orleans Second Line Round 3, Pick 39: Eli Prince, Wide Receiver @Rufio_NZ The only draft pick for NOLA, and we need help on the offensive side of the ball badly. This player improved significantly after the draft. Grade: A New York Silverback Round 1, Pick 5: Lionel Scrimmage, Defensive Tackle @Mojojojo Major team need to become a serious contending team, they got the player they needed but not sure at the value of the pick. Grade: B Round 2, Pick 19: James Batista, Defensive End @Dalphix New blood for an aging DE group, this is a very good pick for NYS Grade: A Round 4, Pick 47: Anthony Simmons II, Tight End @Starchychaff Very good value pickup at this spot, I hope Anthony can block. Grade: B+ Round 4, Pick 50: Keno Akara, Wide Receiver @Keno Good developmental pick at this spot. Grade: B Orange County Otters Round 1, Pick 3: Jamdrian LeBayers, Cornerback @kenvald With how shallow the CB pool was this draft, I would've either taken this player or the Safety Notso Smart, this was a good choice and great that they got him at 1.03 (also the #1 TPE at time of draft). Grade: A+ Round 1, Pick 8: Big Mclarge Huge, Tight End @Hydrium This player developed well after training camp, I would've preferred to see a blocking specialist TE but this is a very good pickup regardless of what I prefer. Grade: A Round 2, Pick 17: Iosefa Fuamatu-Ma’afala, Defensive End @Beta Nice pick, it's good they are beefing up the Defense a bit. Grade: B+ Round 3, Pick 34: Tyler One, Running Back @"Paudrian" I honestly have no clue how this player fell this far, if anyone has any insight please send me a message. Grade: A+ Round 4, Pick 45: Mathias Mayhem, Quarterback @Matty86 Development pick in a shallow pool. Grade: B Sarasota Sailfish Round 1, Pick 11: Ginand Toxic, Defensive End @CLG Rampage Great pick for a major need that they have, best Speed Rusher in the draft by far. Grade: A- Round 2, Pick 23: Fronky Fresh, Linebacker @Fronk The reason the previous pick was an A-, Fantastic value for the spot. Grade: A+ Round 4, Pick 51: Luis Randall, Running Back @"Centreny" Anything above 50 is above average this late in the draft Grade: C+ San Jose Sabercats Round 1, Pick 6: Alex Armstrong, Defensive End @"Duilioo5" Filled in the biggest need I had for them, great pick, great player. Grade: A+ Round 2, Pick 26: Lord Farquaads, Running Back @Ace Developed much better than his draft spot and the only power back in the draft, good insurance if they let some Running Backs go soon. Grade: A- Yellowknife Wraiths Round 2, Pick 15: Detective Crashmore, Tight End @speculadora The biggest need on an already solid team, my favorites (sorry NOLA) for this upcoming Ultimus. Grade: A Round 2, Pick 25: Toad Wananapaoa, Linebacker @siddhus Linebackers went early and they wanted a piece, I don't blame them for picking up Toad this early. Grade: B- Round 4, Pick 56: Colt Mackintosh, Defensive End @mackcoltond Develop and get that bread, neutral score. Grade: C If you actually got this far thanks for reading it all, I will hope no-one takes this stuff personal, but these are personal attacks on your choices and character. I intend to split this type of thing into 3 media articles next season: A Retrospective, a Pre-Draft Needs Analysis, and a Post-Draft Rankings again. If you have any concerns on this please @ me, because this was the first set and I still need to solidify my rankings systems. Also someone please let me know how Tyler One fell so far. From my writeup: (02-14-2023, 10:35 PM)Troen Wrote: R3 P6 - RB Tyler One - one of the other third round RBs with weirdly high TPE for how late they were picked, pauadrian also has multiple retired players and never broke 500 TPE. RB isn't an immediate need for the Otters, but S33 Cold does need a replacement eventually so this could be a good pick down the line. Hopefully the team can keep One engaged and eager to continue earning and contributing in the future. So basically concern that he'd get to 300-400 TPE and retire again. RE: Chap's Post-Draft Analysis - Pat - 02-16-2023 Damn this is a super good article! Love it. I hope you do more of these. RE: *Chap's Post-Draft Analysis - moonlight - 02-17-2023 . That’s why it may seem their TPE is low. In reality, his TPE is among the highest in the class. |
