*DSFL Week 1 Positional Rookie Report - jdc4654 - 02-27-2023

Week 1 of the DSFL is in the books and we finally got to see the updated rookies start playing meaningful games. Let’s take a look at the top positional rookies in week 1 with comparison to where they were drafted. Positional players examined in this report at running backs, wide receivers, and tight ends. Fantasy points used in this report are based on standard fantasy scoring where receiving and rushing yards are 0.1 points and rushing and receiving touchdowns are 6 points.

Malik Brooks (RB) Bondi Beach Buccaneers BBB
Draft Round: Waivers
Fantasy Points: 16.9 points
@AK41

Brooks was the top positional rookie performer in week 1 as the Buccaneers called their number twice in the first quarter at the goal line which resulted in 2 rushing touchdowns. Brooks ended the Buccaneers win with 49 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. Bondi Beach is thrilled to have a waiver selection perform this well in their first game.

Emile Charles (WR) Portland Pythons POR
Draft Round: 5
Fantasy Points: 16.8 points
@Number 82

Charles made a huge difference for the Portland Pythons in the red zone as they picked up two receiving touchdowns in the Pythons win. In mock drafts, Charles was predicted to be a favorite to go in the early rounds but slipped to Portland in the fifth round. Charles looks to play a vital role in this offense for the season ahead.

Ezra Azazel (RB) Tijuana Luchadores TIJ
Draft Round: 3
Fantasy Points: 13.4 points
@"baz1757"

Playing a part in the dominant Luchadores victory over the Birddogs, Ezra Azazel put up an impressive debut performance with 68 rushing yards and a touchdown. As a third round pick, you expected Azazel to deliver on the field and they did just that. Tijuana has to be very proud of all their rookie’s performance in week 1 and look to continue the trend going forward.

Benji Aguilera (WR) Tijuana Luchadores TIJ
Draft Round: 2
Fantasy Points: 12 points
@CROney3

Speaking of Tijuana rookies, Benji Aguilera also had a great game in the Luchadores blowout victory. Aguilera posted 60 receiving yards and 1 touchdown for his team. An impressive win all around by Tijuana and that is thanks due to their great rookies.

Sticky Hands (RB) Norfolk Seawolves NOR
Draft Round: 8
Fantasy Points: 12
@Quasi

Another player most experts were surprised to see slip in the draft was Sticky Hands. The eighth-round pick had a chip on their shoulder and proved the haters wrong as they put up 32 rushing yards, 28 receiving yards, and a touchdown. Sticky Hands can seem to do it all and showed that in week 1. Norfolk may have found a needle in the haystack with this eighth-round pick.

Legs McMillion (WR) Norfolk Seawolves NOR
Draft Round: 3
Fantasy Points: 8.2 points
@jollyjiggs

Speaking of Norfolk’s great rookies, they got a great wide receiver in the third with Legs McMillion. Legs balled out in week one and got 82 receiving yards on the day. Norfolk can count on McMillion moving the ball down the field and it showed in week 1.

Sean Robinson (WR) Norfolk Seawolves NOR
Draft Round: 6
Fantasy Points: 7.9 points
@18situaseans

You thought we were done with Norfolk? Nope. Another play that most were surprised to see fall in the draft was Sean Robinson. Sean has been very active in the Discord and seemed to be a sure fire bet to have a great impact in any locker room. Norfolk took advantage of Robinson sliding and took him in the sixth round. Robinson immediately made an impact putting up 19 receiving yards and a touchdown for Norfolk.

Nick Williams (TE) London Royals LON
Draft Round: 3
Fantasy Points: 7.6 points
@nickWilliams

The third round tight end caught a big touchdown for London in their win over Kansas City. Nick Williams looks to be a great tight end in the DSFL and the Royals may have found a great, reliable red zone target.

Elliot Berry (RB) Kansas City Coyotes KCC
Draft Round: 7
Fantasy Points: 7.5
@titanfan34

Kansas City found a diamond in the rough in the seventh round by selecting Elliot Berry. Berry was able to give the Coyotes 61 rushing yards and 14 receiving yards in their loss to the Royals. Berry looks to be an instrumental piece to Kansas City as the season progresses.

Honorable Mention

Jilk Nutler (TE) Portland Pythons POR
Draft Round: 12
Fantasy Points: 7.2 points
@spagzooks

One player that deserves to get an honorable mention is Jilk Nutler. Portland selected this tight end all the way in the twelfth round, but this did not stop Nutler from coming in and producing right away.

Let’s take a look at players not mentioned who were drafted in rounds 1 and 2. These players did not have a phenomenal debut in week 1 but no need to call them busts just yet. Nutler posted an impressive 72 receiving yards for Portland and proved to be a great option to look for in the middle of the field to move those chains.

Artemis Entreri (WR) Minnesota Grey Ducks MIN
Draft Round: 1
Fantasy Points: 3.7 points
@entreri

Entreri was a highly touted pick coming into the draft and went in the first round to the Grey Ducks. In their debut performance, Entreri only put up 37 receiving yards for their team. They may just need more time settling into the offense. Sports writers were watching this game waiting for the top picked receiver in this year’s tremendous draft class to light up the field, but it has yet to happen.

Oliver Tolliver (WR) Bondi Beach Buccaneers BBB
Draft Round: 2
Fantasy Points: 1.5 points
@Memento Mori

Oliver Tolliver is a player the Buccaneers bet on early in the draft by taking them in the second round. Hoping to provide a spark down the field, Tolliver was unable to show that in week 1 by only posting 15 receiving yards. It is expected that Bondi Beach may have to change their game plan after losing to the Norfolk Seawolves in week 1 and that may need to include getting Tolliver more involved in the passing game.

Diego Lopez Alonso (WR) London Royals LON
Draft Round: 2
Fantasy Points: 1.2 points
@DL14

London spent a lot of draft capital investing in Diego Lopez Alonso by selecting him for the second round. Lopez Alonso was only able to muster 12 receiving yards in the Royals win. Talk about getting an A on the team project but not contributing. Lopez Alonso has been very active in the forums and on the Discord so do not expect this poor performance to be a common theme. He is very determined to move on from this stat line.
