*Rarest Positional Archetypes - jollyjiggs - 03-04-2023

Do you like to be different? This is the article for you. It's mainly going to be data, but if anyone wants to they can feel free to use this to do a deeper dive on how the highest earners at each position help their teams. The three exclusions from this list are players under 100 TPE (some positions have lots of 50 TPE players but only a couple active users), QBs (they're all rare outside of field generals), and free agents (they aren't currently helping a team).

Honorable Mention:
DT
Interior Rusher
Players: 14
Highest TPE: 523 ( OCO Johnson Lovehammer @Lowkey)

While this position is more uncommon than outright rare, most of the players are in the 100-300 TPE range. There's certainly a huge opportunity here for someone to become the premier interior rusher within the league.

10.
LB
Coverage LB
Players: 7
Highest TPE: 1127 ( CTC Barry Badman @Cody)

One of the stranger archetypes as far as TPE spread, coverage LBs mainly sit in the 500-1127 range. There haven't been many standouts made in the past couple seasons, so there may be a lowpoint one ISFL decade from now. As it stands, the archetype is in a rare, yet healthy, position. I imagine most people creating linebackers are interested in sacks and tackles for loss, not interceptions and pass defenses. I find this to be one of the cooler archetypes personally!

9.
CB
Slot Corner
Players: 7
Highest TPE: 793 ( COL Cedric Wilkins II @woelkers)

Wilkins likely only has a couple season left, but this cornerback archetype isn't quite wide open. The biggest potential breakout here is Jamdrian LeBayers, as her already has 413 TPE and is in rookie ISFL season. There are also some DSFL rookies that have been earning decently, but it will take a lot to catch up to LeBayers. There are a lot of cornerbacks in the league, but for some reason they don't have much interest in slot.

8.
WR
Return Specialist
Players: 6
Highest TPE: 1145 ( CHI Austin Morley @soevil)

This is an archetype primed for the future, which makes sense considering it appears to be a newer archetype. There are only two players currently in the ISFL with this archetype, and one of them (Swantavious Torch, TPE: 360) seems to be retiring at the end of the season. The DSFL is littered with return specialist standouts, with S40 create Florida Man leading the way. This one may not stay rare for much longer.

7.
S
Enforcer
Players: 6
Highest TPE: 1029 ( BER L F.T @C9Van)

While L F.T may be a big earner, they are the only enforcer with TPE over 500. This is another instance of most players sitting between 100-300 TPE. Most enforcers are nearing the worse side of regression as well, to it looks like L F.T will have the archetype on lock for awhile. Keep an eye on DSFL's Mike Holiday and Icepick O'Hullihan, as they may turn into stars one day. Much like slot corners, I'm not sure why safeties gravitate away from this archetype.

6.
RB
Power Back
Players: 5
Highest TPE: 1210 ( YKW Adebayo Akinfenwa @PMoney)

This was the first big surprise to me. Running backs in the ISFL aren't hard to find, but this position has (spoiler alert) two archetypes on this list. The TPE spread is split somewhat evenly, with the top three power backs all having 854+ TPE. Look for Ace of the London Royals to pave a name for himself once the big earners of today start regressing in a couple seasons. Lord Farquaads is also a heavy hitter in the DSFL. Seems like most runningbacks tend to value speed, which isn't too surprising.

5.
RB
Fullback
Players: 4
Highest TPE: 1106 ( OCO Leandre Diarra @slate)

That TPE may look high, but WOOF. Diarra is the youngest of the fullbacks, being created S36, but the second highest fullback is Triple Option with 415. There haven't been any new fullbacks since Diarra to break 100 TPE, which leads to some concern that in five or so seasons the position may start to really fade out. As it stands, Diarra really holds this position down and there isn't currently anyone who threatens that crown.

4.
OL
Athletic Lineman
Players: 4
Highest TPE: 911 ( NOLA Franz Udo Culman-Kaiser @Evok)

This one was a little bit of a surprise. High earning lineman are pretty rare, but you can find a decent amount hovering around 300 TPE. Not with this archetype, however. Three of the four lineman included are over 800 TPE, with just one more sitting at 143. Speaking of that fourth lineman, look for DSFL rookie Justin Willis to become part of the big four at some point. I don't have too much to say about this one, other than it's by far the least popular of the offensive linemen.

3.
DT
All-Purpose DT
Players: 4
Highest TPE: 356 ( NYS Lionel Scrimmage @Mojojojo)

The gap between this archetype and the previous on the list is huge. The bad for this archetype speaks for itself- but let me enlighten you to the good. Scrimmage is in his ISFL rookie season, and it seems like he will keep earning at a high rate. Two other all-purpose DT's (Billy Jor-El and Jason Steele) are currently in their DSFL rookie seasons. And this is the one position where I will mention players under 100 TPE, as there are two more of this archetype also in their DSFL rookie season that are quickly approaching 100 TPE. The archetype isn't in a great place right now, but is primed to have high and middle earners to fill it out more evenly within the next few seasons.

2.
TE
Blocking TE
Players: 3
Highest TPE: 327 ( YKW Detective Crashmore @speculadora)

This is somewhat expected. There aren't a lot of "star" blocking tight ends in the real 3D (4D?) world, so why would many people want to be one in fantasy land? This isn't a jab at the position, as blocking tight ends can be pivotal to the success of a team. They just don't get the glory of showing up on a stat sheet. Much like the previously mentioned archetype, Crashmore is in his rookie ISFL season and is already the head of the blocking tight end committee. However, unlike all-purpose DT's, blocking tight ends aren't super flush with DSFL rookies. I don't expect this position to suddenly gain popularity, but I bet the current players are okay with that.

1.
DE
Run Stuffer
Players: 1
Highest TPE: 389 ( SJS Alex Armstrong @Duilio05)

Here we are, the least popular archetype in all of professional dotball. Whereas other archetypes will usually have a bunch of 50 TPE users, run stuffers have just one: a S35 create with 50 TPE that isn't even on a team. While I didn't expect this to be a common archetype, I am beyond surprised that there is legitimately only one player on a team with this build. Even if you were to take away all of my exceptions for who I counted as a player, this position would still rank #1. Armstrong is in his rookie ISFL season, so he'll have the TPE advantage with this archetype for many seasons to come. If anyone is interested in creating a character with a rare archetype, this one is for you.

Thanks for reading. Would love to hear from people with these archetypes on what they like and dislike about their player.

Neat!

RE: Rarest Positional Archetypes - thecanadiancanuck - 03-08-2023

I'm guessing the lack of other RB archetypes is because Receiving Back is just so broken that there's really no reason to pick the other two unless it's a passion build.

Nice piece!

Sorry for the nerdy question but where do you get this data from?
