*Kansas City Coyotes Team Activity - jdc4654 - 03-07-2023

With the addition of new tight end, Andrija Divac @beardedserb, GMs @TubaDeus and @domffl thought it would be a great idea to do some team building during the extended break between weeks 4 and 5.

Tuba and Dom gathered all the players in the team meeting room and welcomed up Divac as the Coyotes’ newest tight end. Divac gave a few words and mentioned he was happy to join the team and get started on the field. Once Divac returned to his seat, Tuba got up and proclaimed to the team that instead of having practice they will be doing a team activity together. He organized a field trip to the Missouri Wildlife Rescue Center nearby where the team will be doing volunteer service together with some actual coyotes.

This generated some positive chatter in the meeting room, mostly in favor of not having practice that day. Tuba and Dom directed everyone to the team bus which was waiting outside for them. The team travelled to the rescue center where they were met by the center’s director.

The director introduced herself to the team and showed them around the center. When she came upon the coyotes, she mentioned that coyotes are highly adaptable and can thrive in fields and meadows. They have simulated the coyotes’ natural habitat at the center which helps to rehabilitate and nurture the animals. She also mentioned coyotes will defend their territory against any predators and are known to howl at night, especially if there’s a full moon. Jason Steele @FireworkFuse chimes in saying “When that light hits the sky, it’s not just a call. It’s a warning. For them.” The director pauses and looks at the defensive tackle before moving on.

Being one of the most intelligent players of the bunch, the director guides Icepick O’Hullihan @Joe Shabado over to one of the coyotes. She tells Icepick to bow to the coyote to let him know you are friendly. Banjo O’Kudah @Magnet whispers over to Lukas Van Ness @Ajax, “isn’t that what they do in Harry Potter?” Icepick proceeds to bow and the coyote bows back. The coyote allowed Icepick to pet and feed him.

The director then moves on and calls over Jake Jefferson @thecanadiancanuck. She says, “I hear you want to lead this team someday.” Jefferson nods. The director guides him over to three coyote pups, who are no older than 6 months. The director requests Jefferson to feed the pups only after you get them to run a lap around this field. Jefferson asks, “how am I supposed to do that?” The director puts out her hands as if to suggest that it is up to him to figure that out. Jefferson grabs little plastic toys that the director has and spreads them out on the perimeter of the field and the pups run around the field playing with each toy. The director congratulated Jefferson on his ingenuity and leadership saying, “it may not always be clear on how to lead a team as there is no correct answer each time. But a great leader will find a way.”

All players were then taken to the cave in which the coyotes sleep at night and were directed to clean the area. The director told them, “to be a team, you have to be willing to do the dirty work but do it together.” As the coyotes were enjoying the pasture, the team turned their sanctuary into a spotless environment. The director, along with Tuba and Dom, were pleased to see all players were participating in this activity, including QB Mathias Mayhem @Matty86, RB Eilliot Berry @titanfan34, and WRs Jimmy Ryder @AJW and Keno Akara @Keno.

The director thanked each individual player personally for their time and attention. To reward them, they brought in a Kansas City barbeque caterer to feed the whole team. This catered had to bring in three Traeger smokers to accommodate all the ribs that were about to be consumed by the Kansas City Coyotes. After lunch was finished, all the bones were collected and saved for the coyotes as chewing bones makes the coyotes better biters.
The team departed the rescue center with high spirits and headed back to the team facility. The bus ride back was more energetic than the ride going to the center. Although after eating three racks of ribs, offensive lineman Bubba Chubb @packplaya was more interested in a nap. Matthew Fryars @CyloSaynx and Ray Baker "@jdc4654" led the team into an enthusiastic version of “99 bottles of beer on the wall”.

The bus returned to the Coyotes team facility where Tuba and Dom corralled the team back into the meeting room. They both thanked the team for their active participation in today’s field trip to the rescue center and hoped they were able to take something away from the visit. Team captains Jason Steele @FireworkFuse and Ray Baker @jdc4654 went to the front of the meeting room and echoed what the GMs mentioned to the team. They also relayed to the team that we may be individual players, but we are one pack. We all will have to stick together and trust each other to be successful on the field. This transitioned into a miniature pep rally for the week 5 game against Bondi Beach. They mentioned that the coyotes we witnessed today instinctively know how to work together and we can do the same.

Tuba and Dom addressed the team and let them know they were free to go for the day. But what happened next delightfully surprised the two GMs. Although the players were free to go home and sleep or play games or whatever they choose to do, instead all the players stuck around and either headed out to the practice field or headed to the weight room. The team was very inspired by the rescue center they visited and wanted to keep the positive momentum going by getting more reps in. The offensive lineman went to the weight room to try to out bench press each other. The quarterback and receivers headed to the practice field to work on vertical routes. The running backs were pumping speed. The defensive line did tire running drills. The linebackers and cornerbacks were doing pull-ups in the weight room. And Ray Baker was practicing 35 yard field goals as he remembered what the late, great Bruce Lee once said. “I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.”
