*Wizard's Mock v1.0RB - wizard_literal - 03-29-2023

Alright let's get this mock season started the right way.  This will be the first of 2 or 3 mock drafts I'm planning on producing over the coming weeks, each of which will have a different theme, but primarily looking at the 1st and 2nd rounds.  There's somewhere in the range of 40 prospects I could absolutely see being worthy of a first round pick in any other draft class.  Rather than disappointingly mocking players to the 5th round, I'd rather look at several scenarios for the first 2 rounds, and at least include a scenario where the top and most active players in this class go in the first two rounds.  So by that nature this might not be the most accurate mock for actual draft position.  I'm shooting more for hitting the right team fit. The one exception is that I will additionally include Baltimore's 5th round picks in every article as an honorary mention.  The theme of this particular mock is Recreates!  I've got some hot takes to dish out and will be mocking 10 recreates in the first two rounds of this draft.  Again if you don't see your name here keep an eye out for Wizard's Mock v2.ORB!

1.1 NYS NYS - Defensive Tackle - Dub Redd - @wizard_literal
Did I literally just put myself at 1OA?

ACTUAL PICK
1.1 NYS NYS - Linebacker - Loose Cannon - @Jumbo
Now that nobody can claim I didn't mock myself, let's get into the actual pick for 1OA. New York has been open about looking for help in the War Room, so who better than a former(current?) 13 season SHL GM, and WFC West GM Jumbo!  While the consensus is the Silverbacks will be looking towards Defensive Line with the first pick, I think the DLine class is deep enough that they can hold off and fill the need in later rounds.  With only three Linebackers currently rostered, adding to the group with the highest TPE prospect and shifting towards a 3-4 defense could be the move.  While Jumbo is a newcomer to the ISFL, one could argue their SHL experience warrants this pick as a recreate* tag with an asterisk.

1.2 COL COL (from BAL BAL ) - Safety - Mary Marie - @aeonsjenni
:kiwi: :snail:

1.3 HON HON - Linebacker - John Stark VIII - @UptownCord
The prospective Portland GM himself. UptownCord has put themselves in a league above the other S41 newcreates coming into a GM position before we were even halfway through S40.  In what I think will be a trend at the top of this draft, user quality takes precedence over positional need.  That being said, while HON is more likely to want a Safety here, Linebacker is also a high priority position for the Hahalua.

1.4 OCO OCO (from SJS SJS ) - Wide Receiver - Olliver Tolliver - @Memento Mori
The Otters have refused to scout Mori, maybe that's because they used to be a 5 time GM for the team.  While Wide Receiver isn't a top need for Orange County, I have a hard time believing they pass up on a prospect that has history with the team and was 4th highest all time in TPE before regression on their previous player.  Memento Mori has shown to be just as dedicated to hitting those marks again with a 6000 word ASFC team analysis that could be seen as an open letter to GMs on what they'll be getting from this recreate.  Personally I have Mori as the top prospect on my board and wouldn't be surprised to see them go higher than this.

1.5 NOLA NOLA (from BER BER ) - Defensive End - Bruce White - @toofpete
Toofpete has been the talk around town for first overall for awhile now.  And how can you blame anyone for saying so about this record breaking rookie Defensive End.  As if we needed another reason New York has Defensive Line at the top of their needs list this season, and Toofpete has openly stated he's both open to position switches and has interest in being an active part of the War Room.  So why am I mocking him to NOLA at pick 5?  Well if you haven't been a part of the rumor mill the Portland -> NOLA pipeline is about to solidify itself this offseason.  If by any chance Bruce drops out of the first 4 picks I don't have any doubt New Orleans will use their 1st of two consecutive picks on the DSFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.  As previously mentioned position changes are 100% on the table, so there's no need to account for positional need here.

1.6 NOLA NOLA - Runningback - Malik Brooks - @AK41
This is my first wild card in this mock.  It's no surprise NOLA is need of a fast Runningback overhaul, but the real question is if they look to secure that need in the first round.  In my opinion AK41 has a substantial resume between a hefty bank and head office experience.  That's why I think The Secondline could look towards a recreate to fill their Runningback void for the foreseeable future.  That being said passing up on defense in the first round is a tough ask, and there are a few other top RB prospect the Secondline could look to grab in the later rounds.

1.7 COL COL - Cornerback - Ezra Azazel - @baz1757
If baz falls this far Colorado will have no hesitation windmill slamming the Fire Gadget button draft Baz button.  Baz already plays for Colorado under the pseudonym fnordypsyduck, so grabbing his multi makes all the sense in the world at this spot.  Allegations aside, Baz is allegedly friends with psyduck, and COL -> TIJ is a long established pipeline.  Adding to that Colorado's secondary is getting up there in age so Cornerback should be a high priority position for them.  And the cherry on top is that Baz gets to avoid playing for negs and CTC CTC if he's gone before pick 10.

1.8 SAR SAR - Wide Receiver - Emile Charles - @Number 82
By the nature of trying to highlight recreates I'm likely putting too many Wide Receiver in the first round.  In reality Defensive positions are going to be the common target for the first.  However, Number 82 is one of the top earning Receivers in this class with an absolutely massive bankroll over $200M.  They're an active force in the league and are even responsible for the winning Ultimus City Host bid.  The Sailfish need to set up a at least one Wide Receiver in their pipeline, and if Emile Charles isn't a 1st round pick they'll be gone in the second.

1.9 AUS AUS - Linebacker - Liath Squirrel - @LiathTheSquirrel
Liath returns to Austin as a first round pick!  Quite honestly I don't know if the Grey Duck Squirrel is looking to return to their former team, but I imagine if they are, this could be a gimme pick for Austin.  Top earner, league history including GM experience,  and a long active status as a recreate are all attributes that could see Liath being drafted in the first round.  Perhaps the only reason the squirrel could fall is due to the categorically stacked group of Linebacker prospects in this class.

1.10 CTC CTC - Cornerback - Kadarius Claypool II - @Weaves
This might a Controversial pick, but I'm banking on the connections between Norfolk and CTC here with mocking Weaves to the Crash.  After missing out on Baz negs disheartenly takes one of the top Cornerbacks in this class Kadrius Claypool II.  Cornerback is pretty stacked in this class so I could also see Weaves being the first player in the position off the board.  It all depends on team fit, but between podcast work and being an active force on the forums Weaves will be a great get for any team that needs help in the secondary.

1.11 COL COL (from OCO OCO ) - Wide Receiver - Wolfie McDummy Jr. - @infinitempg
It's more likely infinite goes higher than this, but I just didn't have the heart to put Wolfie at 7 to COL and have Baz fall into the grasps of Negs and The Crash.  Then again I could be completely wrong about all of this, who knows what this bird wolf has been squawking barking about in scouting DMs.  I might've heard McDummy Jr. has Hall of Fame aspirations, but then again that could be a bit of pre-draft misdirection.  However, if that is the case and infinite is looking to stat seek through free agency, then spending a high draft pick on the bird wolf might not be deemed worthy.  Busch Goose spent a long 10+ season career for the same team, so really anything is a possibility.

1.12 CHI CHI - Defensive Tackle - Billy Jor-El - @LtHudz
Chicago needs help on the defensive front, and Billy Jor-El is arguably the top Defensive Tackle prospect in this class.  The only way LtHudz falls this far is if teams start prioritizing Linebackers and Defensive backs at the top of the first round.  However if Jor-El is available at 12 for Chicago the MINN -> CHI pipeline is too strong for me t not believe they'll be snatched right up.

1.13 YKW YKW - Safety - Rico Savage - @TheRake
Sadly due to concerns of t-wording Rico Savage's draft stock plummets and is once again is taken after Bruce White.  If Yellowknife thinks they can get a handle on this controversial safety then they'll both fill a true need at Safety with veteran Jay Spears likely going out soon, and have an absolute steal here at the end of the first.

1.14 ARI ARI - Linebacker - Max Honesty - @"LeSizz"
Lesizz's draft stock has been soaring after a late season position switch to Linebacker.  The Pixelated GFX Guru would arguably be the best player available on the board here at 14, and Arizona is in a position to do just that.

2.1 NYS NYS - Defensive End - Defensive Tackle - Damarcus Cole - @Hordle
After picking up a Linebacker in the first, New York moves back to their top need on the DLine with current Silverback Hordle.  Hordle si already rostered as a Wide Receiver on NYS due to the retirement rules, and I wouldn't be surprised if they specifically recreated at DLine with the intentions of returning to New York and bolstering the defensive front.

2.2 SJS SJS (from BAL BAL ) - Linebacker - DJ Maclean - @Urq660
Urq already has ties to San Jose via their last player, and Linebacker is at the top of the Sabercats needs this draft.

2.3 HON HON - Kicker - Ray Baker - @jdc4654
I'm guessing this one will be a pretty popular pick in a number of upcoming mock speculations.  Ray Baker's reputation proceeds him, and HON is in quite the need for a replacement kicker.  The only reason Ray Baker isn't a first round pick here is due to positional value.  However if a team is a big fan of jdc4654's personality, and who wouldn't be, they could sneak their way into the first.

2.4 SJS SJS - Tight End - Otto the Orange - @Greenbaynathan
Another recreate to San Jose!  It's a reasonable assumption the first round will be dominated by devoted newcreates, but in the second we could see a run on league veterans like Greenbaynathan.  By TPE metrics they're the top Tight End earner in this class, so SJS looks again to fill a positional hole here at pick 18.

2.5 BER BER - Offensive Line - Modest Mussorgsky - @Gragg9
I should've done this earlier but big shoutout to Memento Mori for their writeups on team needs.  It's made this mock process much easier for me.  Berlin is rumored to be looking towards the Offensive Line this draft, and Modest Mussorgsky is the top recreate at the position.

2.6 NOLA NOLA - Defensive Tackle - Jumbo Edward - @furiousPanda
Reach.

2.7 COL COL - Defensive Tackle - Scruffy The Janitor - @pazuzu
Pazuzu already has ties to Colorado via their last player, and after taking a Safety & Cornerback duo in the first the Yeti can sure up a hole on the Defensive Line here in the second.

2.8 SAR SAR - Safety - Brian Vincent-Vega - @WrittinDirectino
There's a certain Gator for the sailfish that has ties to London, and Brian Vincent-Vega is the best Safety on the board at pick 2.8 here.  Just a little tip here that WrittinDirectino should be on more user's radars for mock season. They've quietly been one of the best defensive backs in the DSFL this season.

2.9 AUS AUS - Wide Receiver - Artemis Entreri - @entreri
I'll probably get roasted here for having Entreri in the second round after they were 6th overall in the DSFL draft, but from the horses mouth himself when asked about position swapping "I'm a WR. I'm too much of a diva to change".

2.10 CTC CTC - Defensive End - Rolund Onyxgut - @crash1005
Onyxgut is another defensive end that we could see go much higher than this. Crash1005 is a very pleasant user, and the Bondi Beach to Cape Town pipeline could see them go here.

2.11 SJS SJS (from OCO OCO ) - Wide Receivier - Diego Lopez Alonso - @DL14
Russ specifically drafts Diego Lopez Alonso so that he can add a No Discord Pinging clause to this contract.  Jokes aside DL14 is a great young upstart who already holds two league jobs and is certain to be a top pick this draft.

2.12 CHI CHI - Cornerback - Bill Cravy - @KlausGoatCasinos
Sleeper Pick!  KlausGoatCasinos has been slinging out Cravy media the past few weeks and correspondingly has shot up the charts as a top Cornerback by TPE metrics in the last two weeks.  I've got a craving for more Bill Cravy media, and GMs have a craving for good cornerbacks.  I have him here in the second, but don't be  if Bill Cravy is Chicago's first round pick.

2.13 YKW YKW - Defensive Tackle - Jason Steele - @FireworkFuse
If you're not starting to realize how loaded this class is if YKW can get a Defensive Tackle like Jason Steele at pick 23, then I'm not sure how else I can convince you.  Both of Kansas Cities GMs currently play on the Yellowknife roster, and I'm sure Jason Steele is at the top of their draft board.

2.14 ARI ARI - Defensive End - Logjammed McBobface - @marccelaat
The Tijuana Treasure himself, Logjammed McBobface.  In a trend here this is the 3rd Defensive Lineman I've mocked to the second round that I personally think is worthy of a first round grade.  Arizona has at least one connection to Tijuana, and if the Racoon is available here it'd be a great pick for them.

5.2 BAL BAL - Tight End - Kenny Szymborski - @Hallmonitor_20
Hawkmonitor fills a need for Baltimore at Tight End, and he gets to be drafted ahead of Juniped?  Massive W.

5.6 BAL BAL (from NOLA NOLA ) - Wide Receiver - Orga Panda - @juniped
Sad times, after being projected as the 1OA pick, Orga Panda's stock plummets on draft day, and he's drafted after Hall.

End Notes:
Okay well that wraps my first mock.  It's going to be a busy week for me but expect to see at least one more of these before the ISFL Draft premier.  As a closing note remember that your actual draft position has no impact on how great of a player you can be at the next level.  I'd even argue going later just makes for a better story of proving all those stinky ISFL GMs that passed on your wrong. Personally I hope I'm nowhere near the top of the draft because that's a lot of pressure!  Alright anyway thanks for reading!

There are a lot of great users in the class, I like @WrittinDirectino as a great second round pick who's gone under the radar!

RE: Wizard's Mock v1.ORB - Jumbo - 03-29-2023

There are sooo many great users in this class. I think there a quite a few that could go 1OA. So it would be an honor to go 1st or even in the 1st round.

This post subverted my expectations and re-circuited my scouting and drafting brain

Appreciate the love wizard and jenni! At this point I'm wondering if I'm becoming overrated haha.

Great article as usual!
