*Jasper Fontaine Thinks Back to His DSFL Teammates & Ponders Vacationing With Them - lordcoolcats - 04-16-2023

Some people love the ISFL for the stats. Some go crazy just watching those little dots dance around on the screen. Others live for the Hall of Fame or the Pro Bowl or the thrill of a casino bet. All of these things make the league great, but for Jasper “Jazzy” Fontaine, it’s the PEOPLE that make this place so special. Join us now as Jasper sits fireside, sips an old fashioned, and recalls his memories of each player on his team during his debut in the league.

Season 35 – An Introduction. LordCoolcats finally agrees to join that stupid simulation football league that "@Fronk and @IceBear32 keep begging him to look at. He has no idea what he’s doing. He makes a Tight End, even though there’s already like 20 Tight Ends in this class, and names him Jasper “Jazzy” Fontaine. He is totally and utterly lost on how any of this works. He nearly gives up. Fontaine is picked up off the waiver wire by the Minnesota Grey Ducks just in time to watch them lose the Ultimini. He does not play a single snap. He’s thrown back into the void, until suddenly, he receives a ping that the official DSFL draft is happening.

Bzzt Bzzt. Jasper Fontaine has been drafted to the Norfolk Seawolves at pick 49. This is where the story truly begins. He enters the locker room, greeted by faces that would soon become staples in his life. @g2019. @negs. @"Gbeck765". He doesn’t know it yet, but these will soon become close friends, among a countless list of others Jasper meets during his DSFL journey.

@"Gbeck765" – GM of the Norfolk Seawolves.
If Fronk and Ice were the ones to throw me into the bottomless ocean of the ISFL, Beck was the one to hand me a life raft. He scouted me, helped me set up my update page and held my hand as I learned to navigate through the daunting world of forums, discord servers, and youtube streams. If Beck had not stumbled by chance upon my name on the scouting list and taken the time to chat with me, there is a strong likelihood I would never have even stayed in this league. Since then, Beck has become a close friend, as well as opposing GM for the Orange County Otters. We’ve met up in person, watched basketball, and chat on a regular basis. He also has the bragging rights of making quite possibly the greatest 7th round DSFL draft pick of all time…(Me).

If I were to go on a vacation with Beck, we’d roadtrip with Fronk and IceBear to a March Madness basketball game, preferrable one with IU playing in it. We’d blast music with the windows down while flying across the Midwest highways. We’d laugh and we’d joke and we’d probably get too drunk and the basketball game and get kicked out. Either that, or we’d make it on Sports Center. Either way, memories would be made.

@ImSatanJunior – GM of the Norfolk Seawolves.
One of my funniest memories in Norfolk was that we made it over halfway through the season before I ever even realized ISJ was my other GM. This is not a dig at ISJ in any way. They were active and helpful in the locker room, and were likely doing all of the duties of a GM behind the scenes. The issue is that I literally didn’t know there were 2 GMs per team. I assumed Beck was the only GM and ISJ was just this super helpful person who was always around. There are some screenshots floating around the Norfolk locker room of me learning just how wrong I was. It’s hilarious.

@seal Pete Zuh – QB
My first season in the DSFL involved playing for an offense that did not have a QB. So to compensate, we turned out offensive lineman into a quarterback and the result was AWESOME. The big man from Pepperoni University managed just shy of 2500 yards as a rookie QB and went on to have an awesome career in the ISFL where he still plays for Sarasota, albeit it at a different position.

If Seal and I were to go on vacation, we would head to Michigan, pizza capital of the world (suck it New York, Chicago, and Italy). We’d get that Detroit style crust, and maybe even visit Domino’s Farms to see what all the fuss is about.

@g2019 Sconnie McSix – RB
Sconnie was the first big shot player Jasper ever played alongside. The dude was a machine. He managed nearly 1300 yards and helped us win an Ultimini. He’s also a good friend and incredibly helpful user with a plethora of experience across the ISFL and other sim leagues to boot.

One of these days, Jazzy is going to make his way up to Wisconsin and have a beer and some cheese curds with G2019. Ideally in the summer when it’s not -40 degrees.

@Will3 William Groves – RB
Will3 was another runningback on the championship-winning Norfolk squad. Although he is no longer active in the ISFL community, it was great to share a locker room alongside so many fun people. He ran for 630 yards and 10 touchdowns during our season together.

If we vacationed together, I’m thinking we’d hit up the Cayman Islands. Kick back with a mojito and enjoy the breeze.

@infern8 Thomas Robinson – WR
You wanna talk MVP caliber players? Thomas Robinson was absolutely in the mix back during Season 35. 1017 yards and 9 receiving touchdowns. This dude was on fire. He’s also a prominent user within the league who is still active today. He’s also my updater, so if I ever mess up, he’s the first to let me know.

If we were to vacation together, I like to think we’d post up on a beach in the Dominican Republic. Open bar, warm sand, and fresh rays. We’d lounge and talk about the good ‘ol days.

@Ephenssta E. Phenssta – TE
I’ve never even seen this user before. Are we sure they’re even part of the league. I’m pretty positive they were never in Norfolk. This must be some kind of mistake. I’ll have to go consult the index and make sure someone didn’t sneak in a fake name. Hmmmm…. All jokes aside, Ephenssta and I have a long history together. Long past our days of playing for Norfolk, we went on to become co-GM’s of the Seawolves. And now, we’ve both graduated to being GMs for opposing ISFL teams. I wish them the best of luck in Colorado, and I also hope they lose every time they play Cape Town.

If we were to go on a vacation together, we’d definitely hit up Glacier National Park. We’d both bring our dogs and spend the whole day hiking, camping, and finding the best possible sticks.

@adison Adison Bond – WR
Adison was more of a quiet user. In fact, I’m not sure if we ever even spoke with one another. But that didn’t stop them from accumulating 535 yards and 3 Touchdowns while on the Norfolk Squad.

They are no long active within the league, but if we were to vacation together, I like to think we’d go to Cancun. Perhaps an all-inclusive resort with those fancy wrist bands that get you  access to all the food and drinks you could ever want.

@ScorpXCracker Dorfus Jimbo Jr Jr Jr – KP
Dorfus may very well be the greatest kicker of all time. And by that I mean they performed moderately well and that’s all you can really ask for from a DSFL kicker. He made 19 field goals with the longest being 52 yards. Pretty damn impressive.

If we were to vacation together, I vote that we’d fly into Boston, rent a car, and drive through Cape Cod. Perhaps we’d make it all the way to Provincetown and stay in a quaint little Bed and Breakfast for the weekend. Refreshing. Relaxing. Delightful.

@WildfireMicro Jack McPherson – LB
To this day, WFM remains a welcome staple within the Norfolk lockerroom. They are a high earner and active participant across several sim leagues, but playing alongside them during my first season in Norfolk was an amazing experience. Although Jack McPherson recently retired and I am totally stoked to see what Sailor Moon is able to accomplish, I still vividly remember watching McPherson’s dot absolutely annihilate the opposing QBs when I first entered the league. Jack accumulated 88 tackles, 4 TFLs, 2 Forced Fumbles, 2 Fumble Recoveries, 1 Sack, and 10 Pass deflections.

If I were to vacation with WildFireMicro, I’d love to make it down to Louisville. They’ve talked up a few restaurants in the area and I’m always down to try some local cuisine.

@Friesen1520 Ja’uan Holland – S
The one. The only Ja’uan Holland. Although Friesen is no longer very active, they were an amazing rookie to join the team alongside back in S35. Their safety was dominant all season long, and they played special teams too. Plus, they had a great personality and were just enjoyable to be around. They made the locker room a better, welcoming place. By the end of Season 35, Holland racked up 57 Tackles, 2 Forced Fumbles, 3 Interceptions, 10 Pass Deflections, as well as 383 Kick Return Yards, 1 Kick Return Touchdown, and 1 Punt Return Touchdown. Absolute insane Special teams stats.

If we were to vacation together, we’d likely go to Greece. Perhaps we’d stay in a cliff-side villa along the Mediterranean and enjoy the local cuisine.

@PurpleReign Graham Harper – CB
Graham Harper was the best of us, in fact, if I recall correctly, I believe he went 1OA in our draft class and was even hired as the Dallas Birddog’s GM. Unfortunately, as we are all aware, the flame that burns twice as bright burns out twice as fast. By the end of the following season, he would be IA and gone from the league completely. Sometimes I still dream that perhaps if we are lucky PurpleReign will rejoin us someday. They were a great user. And during Norfolk’s Ultimini run, they accumulated 73 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 5 interceptions, and 1 defensive touchdown.

If we were to go on vacation together, we would visit Naples. This would be a vacation purely to rest and recharge. We’d enjoy the faire weather, sip on espresso, and maybe even catch a soccer game.

@Gage2 Tae Dawson – CB
Yet another high caliber player in Tae Dawson. A prized CB who still contributes to the league with the Berlin Fire Salamanders. Gage2 began as a rookie alongside me and together we collected our league bearings. They were an active member of the locker room and one of the major contributors to making Norfolk feel like a place I wanted to stay long term.

If Gage2 and I were to go on vacation, we’d go to Vienna. We’d visit the historical district, marveling at the architecture and taking in the sights as we perused along the Danube River and feasted on doner kebabs.

@"myrrh" Carissa Van Campen – LB
While Jasper Fontaine was new to the league in the season 2050, Carissa Van Campen was a seasoned pro. As one of the leaders of our defense, she commanded our team with 96 tackles, 11 Tackles for Loss, 6 Sacks, and 3 Interceptions. They are still active in the league today, playing for the New Orleans Second Line.

If Myrrh and I were to go on vacation, we would hit up Toronto. Definitely in the summer, not in the winter. We’d scope out that night life and find the coolest restaurants, freshest clubs, and best scenery to take silly selfies in front of.

@PurplePiratePoo Will Nightingale – CB
PurplePiratePoo, aside from having an amazing name, was always one of the more quiet, albeit active members of our locker room. They steadily earned and held their position and even held a job as league updater for a considerable amount of time. As far as I’m aware, they recently went IA, however, I would not be surprised to see them return after a well-needed break.

If Jasper and Will Nightingale were to go on vacation, they’d visit the Caribbean and revel in the historical sites of once-great pirates. We’d sip cocktails out of coconuts, brandish swords, and sew our own jolly roger to hoist upon the sails. Yo ho ho!

@SDCore Effoff IamYeti – DT
While Jasper Fontaine and Effoff Iamyeti did not really speak much during season 35, their users would go on to collaborate several times over the coming months. SDCore is a veteran user within the league; however, it was in a different server—Werewolves, where the two would come to interact most. During Season 35, Effoff managed to achieve 42 tackles, 8 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles, and 3 sacks. What a dominant showing!

If Fontaine and Yeti were to go on vacation together, they would visit the Redwoods of Northern California. They would start their trip in San Francisco, rent a drop top ride, and drive along Highway 1, stopping along all those little coastal towns along the way. Then they’d get lost in the national forests and revel in the glory of nature.

@Ironshadow213 Adam Graves – S
Adam Graves played for Norfolk a full season before Jasper ever arrived, and as such, did not speak in the locker room much. They achieved a stat line of 26 tackles, 3 forced fumbles, 1 sack, 1 interception, and 7 pass deflections. Unfortunately, they went IA nearly a year ago and have not found their way back to the league….yet.

If Jasper and Adam were to go on vacation together, they’d go somewhere fun where they could bond and get to know one another. Perhaps Cedar Point. Nothing brings two people together faster than screaming and crying while sitting front row on the Top Thrill Dragster.

@aw_rats Rip Scorely – LB
This player was a 50 TPE inactive user. We never had the good fortune of meeting one another. I miss them as if they were a long lost brother I never got the opportunity to know.

@takethehorizon Kellan Frost – DE
Kellan Frost was a four season veteran at Norfolk by the time Jasper arrived. They were not active in the locker room, but their stat sheet was active enough to be satisfactory. They finished the season with 29 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble, and 10 sacks.

If Jasper and Kellan were to go on vacation, they would visit Denmark. They would go skiing in Copenhagen, hike to some historical lighthouses, and feast upon stroopwaffles.

@Jimi64 Pilot RedSun – OL
Little did Jasper know upon first meeting Jimi that he was speaking with not only a former Norfolk GM, but also a future teammate in Philadelphia and Cape Town. While only active on occasion, Jimi would become a well-known staple in the locker rooms that Jazzy spent his time. As an offensive lineman in season 35, Pilot Redsun acquired 61 pancakes and allowed 0 sacks.

If Jasper and Pilot were to go on vacation, they would visit the Grand Canyon. Do I even have to elaborate further? It’s the GRAND CANYON. It’s incredible. A scar upon the earth born of god’s fury. We would stare out in wonder and ponder our lives.

@Bunny Orlando Doom – OL
A fellow Offensive Lineman alongside Pilot Redsun, Orlando Doom was key to making our offense unstoppable. Although quiet in the locker room, they achieved a stat line of 40 whopping pancakes. They would then go on to become a kicker where they still play for the Colorado Yeti.

If Jasper and Orlando were to go on vacation together, they would visit Iceland. They would rent a camper van and drive the full 500 mile road around the perimeter of the country, making sure to visit each and every small town, hike glaciers, and stare dreamily into the plethora of waterfalls. They would return to the United States with a twinkle in their eyes.
