(S42) Offseason Task - dude_man - 05-28-2023

(S42) Offseason Task
You have until the end of the offseason to complete the Offseason point task, so the deadline will be Monday, June 12th, 2023 at 11:59PM EST.

Quick Rules:
  • You can earn up to a maximum of 10 TPE through any combination of the available Tier 1-3 tasks. Follow the word count rules specified for each tier and keep your submissions on topic.
  • Articles, graphics, or podcasts that have already been used to get media/graphics money cannot be submitted again for Ultimus Week credit (sorry – no double dipping!).
  • Podcasts can only be submitted for Tier 1 and 2 written tasks. A podcast must include 20 minutes of discussion for Tier 1 and 10 minutes of discussion for Tier 2 about the selected topic. If you make a podcast with someone else, it must be 20/10 minutes apiece.
  • As with PTs, graphics must show at least some effort (i.e. edits must be apparent, should be more than just text slapped on an image). Make sure to add any images you used in your graphic so we are aware of what you did.

Tier 1: Long Form Tasks (Must be 600+ words)
Choose ONE for 10 TPE.

1. The Season 41 Ultimus and Ultimini have officially come to an end. Congratulations to the the Tijuana Luchadores and Cape Town Crash for each winning their respective championships. How did each of the finalists in either the Ultimus or Ultimini arrive at the playoffs? Were there any teams that surprised or disappointed during the playoffs? Did the outcome of either championship game surprise you at all?

2. Tell us about your draft class. Is there anything that makes it special in comparison to other classes? Where did your fellow draftees land, how are they doing? Did anyone turn out to be an unexpected steal of that draft based on what you know today? Do you think anyone in your draft class will become a hall of famer? If you’re new to the league, how do you think your class will do? Where do you think people will get drafted to?

3. Let's talk about the future. As we've seen in the ISFL and DSFL, things can go from rock bottom to the absolute top in just one quick season and vice versa. With that said, tell us about your predictions for next season. Were there any big moves made late in the season or the offseason that you believe could really shake things up? Are there any players hitting the season with a noticeably improved TPE pool or hitting regression hard that you believe could seriously factor into a team's potential success? And lastly, which team do you expect to be hoisting the trophy for either the ISFL or DSFL, and which teams do you expect will be struggling to stay away from the bottom on the pack?

4. For any team, certain players and users have gone above and beyond, shaping the legacy of the franchise. Choose any ISFL or DSFL team and create a Mount Rushmore for that team. Who in your mind are the four most noteworthy figures of the team’s history? Why does each one of your included figures deserve that recognition, and how did each of them make their mark?

5. “Sim gonna sim” is a popular expression in the league. Write about teams that have been graced by the sim gods and had amazing performances despite statistical odds, and/or about teams that were considered favorites but may have dealt with some bad sim luck that hampered their efforts. How much of an impact did it have on their season(s)?

6. The league has a rich and fascinating history, and our perspectives on it differ from person to person. In 600 words or more, describe any significant moment in ISFL or DSFL history, whether you were around for it or not. Describe the context, the significant members, and the events. What exactly made this event so famous (or infamous) and why does it deserve to be remembered? Events might include championship wins, the inducting of players to the hall of fame, or even a league scandal.

7. Write 600 words or more on something about anything in the league that interests you. It could be related to statistics, a league issue that you take seriously, or a niche part of history that doesn’t fit neatly into either of the above categories. This must be directly related to the league, so don’t wax 600 words about your team’s participation on a Werewolf server or something.

Tier 2: Short Form Tasks (Each must be 300+ words)
Choose up to TWO for 5 TPE each.

8. This task is exclusive to non-recreate rookies of the S41 class and later. In 300 words or more, how has your experience been in the league? Who have you met that has made your time here more fun, friendly, and exciting? Have you been satisfied with your player’s early start? What was it like being drafted for the first time? Do you have any comments or suggestions for the entire league that you think should be implemented?

9. There have been many moments in league history where a single decision (e.g., a draft choice, a GM’s promotion or retirement, a trade, a player’s movement in free agency) may have changed the course of a team in the ISFL or DSFL. Describe a decision that was made and the impact that it had. Did you imagine said decision leading to a different conclusion or did you think things would turn out the way they did? Is there anything different you would have done to avoid disaster or make things even better?

10. Through a random lottery drawing, you have been named the league's new commissioner for a day. Congrats! What improvements would you make to the league if you had the power to do whatever you wanted?

11. Write a short biography or story about your player. This could include background about how they came to the ISFL and how they’ve done so far, a story about their role in an exciting game, or anything else related to their experience in the league.

12. Write about your team’s biggest rivalry and what makes it so fierce. Is the competition founded in statistics and the team’s recent performance, or is it a rivalry that developed over time during the team’s history that would exist regardless of statistics?

13. Choose a team or player to write about that isn’t your own. What did they do well in the last season? Have they shown any drastic improvements from previous years? What could they do better?

14. Expansion Expansion Expansion! Tell us why you think the league should expand / not expand or include any ideas (in words) for team branding ideas you have or team locations.

15. If you could create a team using any active players in the league, what would that team look like? Would you build a group of all-stars to contend in the next Ultimus, or a team full of jokesters for the fun of it? Describe the roster and why you chose the players you did. (Written or Graphic Task)

16. Describe your player and/or team’s journey through this latest season. What were the highlights? What were the lower points? What might you have done differently? What are your expectations for next season?

Tier 3: Written/Graphics Tasks (Each must be either 150+ words or a graphic)
Choose up to FOUR for 2.5 TPE each.

17. Going to Disney World! Who was the Ultimus or Ultimini Game MVP? Give us a rundown of their celebratory trip to Disney World. (Written Task)

18. This task is exclusive to recreate/non-recreate rookies of the S42 class and later. The season is over and the draft is coming up. What do you bring to a team, and why should a team choose to take a chance on you next season? (Written Task)

19. Your team has announced that they will be laying ground on a new stadium next season. What additions would you like to see included in it. (Written Task)

20. Written Option: Which teammate of yours is the ultimate team player and why? How does this person exhibit selflessness and put the team first? Are they a great locker room presence who encourages others? Do they play an important but unappreciated role on the team which doesn't receive much recognition for awards? Graphic Option: Create a graphic of your player with your teammate who exhibits a team-friendly attitude.

21. Written Option: If your player had a show starring them, what would the plot be? Graphic Option: Create the cover art for your player’s show.

22. Make a scouting report for any of the ISFL or DSFL draftees. Show their stats, abilities, TPE, or highlights. (Written or Graphic Task)

23. What are your thoughts on the sim engine? What sort of improvements would you make to the sim engine if given the opportunity? (Written Task)

24. You’re in charge of entertainment for the Ultimus or Ultimini half-time show. What would you do? (Written Task)

25. Create a billboard, magazine cover, unique trading card, or video game cover depicting a one of the league's stars. (Graphic Task)

26. if your player wasn't a professional in the ISFL/DSFL, what would they be doing instead? (Written Task or Graphic Task)

27. Imagine your current position was not available to be picked when you created your player. What other position would you have picked, and why? (Written Task)

28. Football is a game that has been going on for a while, loved by fans all over. But what if you were able to make some rule changes? Talk us through your new version of football, and what would be different and why? (Written Task)

29. What team do you think has the best branding in the league? Why? (Written Task)

30. Choose one existing award. Tell us why you think a certain player should win that award this season. Stats, or anything else possible should be used to support your case. (Written or Graphic Task)

31. Make up an award for your player (or even someone else) to win for something not on the football field. (Written or Graphic Task)

32. Your player has decided to start a podcast since it's what all the cool celebrities are doing these days. What would the name of your player's podcast be and what would they talk about/do on the podcast? (Written Task)

33. When looking at the teams we have in the ISFL and DSFL, is there any team you believe is in need of a major rebrand or update to their current branding? Why or why not? (Written Task)

34. New players join our teams every season, so which of those new players made the biggest impact on the field for your team? (Written Option)

35. Create the front page of a newspaper celebrating the win or the Ultimus or Ultimini winner. (Graphic Option)

36. Affiliate PT from either SHL/SSL/PBE. The Weeks must match with the timeframe of this Offseason Task. And you may only use a max of 1.

Please contact a member of the PPT team if you need clarification on any of the prompts or need help with anything listed here in general!

RE: (S42) Offseason Task - Rusfan - 05-28-2023

Just before the official halfway point of Season 41, the PT prompt for the 3rd task of the season was as follows:
“React, or overreact, to the first weeks of the season. Is your player’s slow start a sign of abject failure, or are they a 100% MVP lock? Have the Hahalua sold their souls to the sim gods and already locked up an Ultimus? Is your team going to compete for a playoff spot or are they doomed for failure? Give your hot takes here.”

And at that point I had 7 games of stats under my belt with which to project to see how Mandrews McHollywood’s 5th season was shaping up under new New York Silverbacks quarterback Blaine Falco. Those numbers looked like this:

7 Games
29 Receptions
440 Yards
15.2 YPC
60 Long
6 TDs
0 Drops
11 First Downs
7 20+ catches
3 40+ catches

And projected outwards, the expected end-of-season statistical totals for Mandrews as of game 7 of the season were thus:

16 games
66 receptions
1,006 Yards
15.2 YPC
60 Long
15 TDs
0 Drops
25 First Downs
16 20+ catches
7 40+ catches

And finally, the actual numbers at the end of the season were this:

16 Games
71 Receptions
1,232 Yards
16.2 YPC
65 Long
9 TDs
3 Drops
40 First Downs
17 20+ catches
9 40+ catches

As you can see, for almost every positive statistic, Mandrews McHollywood outperformed his averages from the first half of the season. More yards, more receptions, a higher average yards per reception, and he beat his longest reception of 60 yards in week 11 against Austin with a 65 yard touchdown to win the game in overtime. Now it was not all positive, his drops for example, all 3 happened in the back half of the season. And although it was perhaps an unrealistic expectation set up for him to find the endzone 15 times, as that would have led the league just ahead of Johnny Blaze Jr’s 14 with Sarasota, it is more disappointing that after week 7 Mandrews only managed to score 3 more times. It seemed like he had a real shot at double-digit scores for the first time in his career but his scoring slowed way down.

Apart from the drops and TDs, the 2nd half boost is a great sign for things to come for the connection between Blaine Falco and Mandrews McHollywood. Blaine Falco got called up perhaps a year earlier than most teams would like for their young quarterbacks and so he had less TPE as a starter than most other QBs in the league. Every year from now he’s just going to get better and better and Mandrews still has another 3 or so seasons guaranteed to play the full season at max level TPE for the squad. Put them together and you have a top-flight connection in the ISFL for the next few seasons. Mandrews currently ranks 6th in team career receptions, 5th in team career yards, 3rd in team career average yards per reception, and tied for 3rd in team career receiving touchdowns. Now Tugg Speedman holds the record for receptions, yards, and touchdowns pretty solidly for the squad at 897, 11,501, and 75 respectively, but if this connection between Falco and McHollywood keeps up over the next few seasons he has a real shot at catching the former Sabercat and Silverback.

This next season is shaping up to be perhaps the most important of the wide receivers career. It’s Mandrews’s final season without regression starting to sink its claws into his TPE totals, and Falco will just have begun to get into his best years. If they can keep the offense buzzing, there’s a very real chance that you could see this NYS squad competing with the Outlaws for the ASFC crown.

With Robert Rossi's rookie season over in the DSFL its now time to look at the ISFL draft ahead. Realistically speaking Rossi is not going in the first round but you will never know what happens in the draft. There are currently 19 names ahead of him in the draft class and 3 of them being cornerbacks, like Rossi, but who play a different style of football. Luckily Rossi is an absolute menace to society which we saw in his first season playing for Norfolk. Not one team can afford to skip him in the second round, except some teams which names shall not be revealed at this hour in this prompt. Rossi's manager is an avid skit lover and an excellent which who provides the best looking food pictures available in the locker room. Sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe shite - you will never know. Some say he also enjoys Power Trip above all else, but that is just a gossip.

19)

Norfolk's stadium is so outdated they still have phone booths in it - which some visitor team supporters use to do the deed in the middle of the game. They are a disgrace to the sport and to the team and should be immediately removed with the upcoming stadium overhaul. One thing the stadium lacks in general is bathrooms, not one or two times has Rossi witnessed a fan taking a dump in the hallway - and since the maintenance staff could not care less because of their low salary, it is an ongoing issue occurring multiple times a season. This is the second thing we need to enhance, is the staff behind the Seawolves. Wouldn't it be nice to have a completely new staff along with the new stadium? Like, keep it all fresh and clean and take care of everything, especially your players. Third is the food culture, just make a few tweaks here and there to the food availability in each stand, some cheap ass posh ingredients and you could make a bigger buck for it.

26)

Ever since Rossi joined his current player agency, the agent he was assigned was a chef. They had a rocky start to begin with, but that all changed when he asked Rossi to join him for a homemade dinner in his house in order to get a grip of the man himself in question. The roast beef dinner, which was rather simple to execute yet so absolutely delicious in Robert's mind was enough to make him more interested in cooking - so over the course of the season which has just ended for Rossi he tried out new recipes and bought some equipment he thought he would never need, like a pasta machine for example. After Norfolk being eliminated from the ultimini contention, Rossi invited everyone over for dinner at his house. That big family-esque meal with all the players and a few of the selected coaches who he has great relations with became the key turning point in Norfolk's adventure heading into the next season. With everything being said, Robert Rossi would be a saucier at a restaurant.

27)

We have had this conversation before, but if the role of a cornerback would not be available for him to play in, it would be a similar position he would switch to. Considering Rossi's athletic ability and remarkable speed, wide receiver is the obvious choice. The role itself highlights what Rossi is capable of doing, being an absolute menace to society with his speed and intelligence, being at the right place at the right time. He would not be able to capitalize his frame in tackling, but the able to switch his focus from tackling and the defensive game overall would grant him the ability to focus on the offense more - which would mean even more athletic training to be at a receiving positiong faster than anyone else in the leaguem, as well as to have high reflexes and grip strength to catch all the ballls flying at him. If it was not for his love for a defensive display, wide receiver is the obvious choice.

Task 36.

SHL Affiliate PT

Task 17.

Even though some might want to give the MVP of the Ultimus to Eric Belmont, the Crashes last game winning drive made them decide that Creg Jerrith IV was the MVP despite his two picks. Nonetheless, Craig and his family started thier trip to Disney World by first interacting with some fans who wanted to meet him. They then decided to go on the recently reopened and revamped Splash Mountain, with the water soaking Craig in particular so much he nearly dropped his phone on the way out because his hand were so slippery. They then decided to head to the Haunted Mansion, seeing there that Eric has also taken his own family on a trip to Disney World.

The two families decided to avoid Small World and just head to take a ride on Big Thunder, and after that take a tour of Cinderella's castle. They then decided to call it a day for now after meeting a few Disney characters, and promised to meet up again for the second day.

Task 18.

First of all, in terms of user, I can be somewhat controversial because of my past misdeeds with some teams like retiring early. However, with time and the maturity that comes with getting older, I feel like I am nowhere near as bad as I used to be. The only reason I retired Jack McPherson early was because I needed something to distract me from a family tragedy, and barring something like that I do not plan on doing that to Sailor Moon. I'm also quite a media person, with tons of creative ideas for media and GFX and a hefty bank account.

As for what Sailor Moon herself can bring, she is a very fast speed back with 86 speed pending my latest offseason update. She also has 65 agility and a decent Hands stat at 50. What I feel like she being is a good preset build for what she can be in the future, which is a very fast back that can zoom down the field before the defense can react if there is any kind of hole she can get through.

Task 19.

If the Norfolk Seawolves want to build a new stadium, I do have an idea of what I would not want to see: a colored field. While having a grey field to along with the dark blue end zones would be cool, it would also make seeing the players really difficult. However, what I would like to see is a swimming pool in the upper decks. It gets hot in Virginia, so having a nice place for the fans to cool off would be a very nice addition. Also they can set up a submarine statue that some fans can sit inside on the top deck of the stadium, or they can set it up similar to how the real life Tampa Bay Buccaneers do it by having the submarine near one of the end zones.

Maybe when the Seawolves score a touchdown, the submarine can fire some fireworks out of its cannons. Maybe the submarine can also show the score and the downs on the side of its haul.

So the only real response to this is that the ground staff better make sure there's a bar and DJ thing going on for the VIPs. It's gotta be a huge party vibe for when the baltimore hawks come out to play. Also because we aren't really good at the moment, so maybe the fans could drink and forget that they came to watch a game! Honestly though, I'd like to see the ground staff lay undersoil heating so that the field doesnt get too messed up when it rains. Rain makes things pretty dangerous so if we can avoid the pitch being slippery, we'll have less injuries. We've seen situations where players get their cleats stuck into the ground too, which causes a lot of non-contact injuries, but those also tend to be the big injuries too, like ligament damages etc. So better grass being laid out would also just make it way safer for us to play on

The best branding on the team has to be the Baltimore Hawks... Why you may ask? Well I like the Baltimore Ravens and also the team reminds me a lil bit of the Philadelphia Eagles, who had made the Super Bowl recently. So if you combine both of them you get a nice mix. Also honestly, I like all the branding here in the league, but if I had to be super honest. I think the Grey Ducks might be my favourite branding. I love the colours and I absolutely adore the logo. I didn't think the colours would work well before, but after seeing the logo. I can't really complain. Super fun and super clean logo. Some might say it is a little bit simple, but simple can be really good sometimes when compared to an intricate design that doesn't really flow well. But yeah, like I said, I like a lot of the branding here, so its real tough for me to pick one out

20.

The best teammate on my team is @Jeffie43. Jeffie exemplifies what it means to be a teammate. As the runningback on our team, he literally only wants to pound the rock. However, we are a pass heavy offense. Does that bother him? No, not at all. Jeffie is the first one in, last one out sort of mentality. He truly exemplifies what it means to be a Baltimore Hawk and I am proud to be able to call him my teammate. On the sidelines, when I'm delivering water to the starters, he hypes me up. He keeps telling me that I gotta be prepared for my time, because when it comes, I have to do my best and make a claim for the spot. So yeah, we need more Jeffies out there in this world. He's a true teammate and a hero. I hope to be able to accomplish some of the things that he is going to.
