*Week 9 Sportsbook Recap; Week 10 Analysis - CROney3 - 06-30-2023

The ISFL is real, folks. In week 8, I felt pretty confident about some of the bets and those did not pan out at all. Week 9 comes around and I don’t feel great about any of them, but I ended up doing pretty good and making a nice chunk of change! I’m also a bit biased on one of them in week 9, so that felt great to get that one right. Let’s take a look at my thoughts on these:

Wolfie McDummy Jr (COL) – over 43.5 Passing Attempts; I was curious how this game would go and it ended up going how my gut told me it would. Berlin’s offense was able to get something going against Colorado’s porous defense, so the Yeti were forced to go full Yeeti. Both games against Berlin this season saw McDummy attempt over 50 passes as he tossed 51 this game. I wish I was more confident in my gut as I only had a level 2 here but a win is a win.

Kyle Crane (NOLA) – under 19.5 Carries; So if we don’t pay attention to the rest of my words last week, I did say “I think Crane will get close”, which he sure did as he ended up with 18 carries. This game had me nervous as NOLA was leading or in it the whole time (can’t believe there was a 69-yard walkoff for Hon). I was surprised he didn’t get more carries in the 4th quarter with the score the way it was. But that fortunately was good for us under bettors.

Benji Aguilera (AZ) – over 5.5 Receptions; Well, it wasn’t a blowout for Arizona. I guess it kinda was, just not in the direction I would have liked. It looked like this over bet was in the bag when Benji was the only pass catcher to have a catch through what seemed like the first half for Arizona. Even with playing from behind, he didn’t see many targets in the 2nd half, but he caught all 6 of his targets for one of his best games as a pro. And that’s all we needed to hit the over. :pewpew:

Rolud Onyxgut (CTC) – under 5.5 Tackles; Damn, what a reversal. I definitely did not expect a shutout for Baltimore here. With the blowout for Cape Town, they dominated time of possession so there weren’t enough opportunities for Onyxgut to get the tackles needed to hit the over. Not much else to analyze on this one, just an incredible gamescript that no one would predict.

Blacksmith Andre (SJS) – over 3.5 Pancakes; Thankfully this one was my lowest confidence level as I was wrong. The Blacksmith forged his way to 5 pancakes, pretty easily beating his prop. Maybe going against 4-3 defenses leads to MORE pancakes? I don’t know, but that’s something interesting to think about when I look at other pancake props. These are usually coinflip bets anyways but maybe there is some kind of info we can learn.

Austin Copperheads – over 26.5 Total Points Scored; Austin hit the over by the end of the 3rd quarter on this one, and I was right that it did seem like a high scoring game was likely. There isn’t much more to analyze from this result, as good teams will continue to be good.

Chicago Butchers – over 19.5 Rushing Attempts; Another one I felt great about and it was an easy over as Dux hit the over on his own and they added 3 more carries to put the icing on the cake. I don’t think anyone expect the fireworks for this game though. A close, high scoring game is good for over bettors and fantasy junkies alike. It’s crazy that Chicago had 3 100-yard receivers and still managed to have a running back with 25 carries and 100 yards.

So that was a good week for me, despite my hesitancy to be confident about most of these bets. We’ll see what week 10 brings us! Let’s get to it already.

Absolute Unit (YKW) – o/u 20.5 Passing Completions; Unit is having another low volume season but is at least pretty efficient with a 98 passer rating. They are going up against Cape Town this week, who is coming off a shutout of offensive juggernaut Baltimore. In the first meeting between these teams this season, Unit had exactly 20 completions on 33 attempts. I anticipate that YKW will want to utilize their amazing running backs, but not on the ground, as Cape Town is 2nd in the league in rushing yards allowed, while they are 11th in passing yards allowed. I think it will be close, but I’m taking the over on this one. We’ll keep the confidence level low, around a 2.

Leandre Diarra (OCO) – o/u 84.5 Rushing Yards; The former fullback has had a pretty good season being the main ball carrier for OCO, averaging 78 yards per game, which is good for 7th in the league. Their opponent, New York, is middle of the road in rush yardage allowed. However, last time these 2 teams played, Tyler One led the team in carries and yardage while Diarra only managed 28 yards. Most of his high yardage games were earlier in the year, so I’m not sure what’s going on in OCO. I don’t have a good feeling about this one so I’m taking the under with a middling confidence level at 3.

Sconnie McSix (BER) – o/u 5.5 Receptions; I love the player but I don’t love the situation McSix was just traded into. Berlin has so many weapons on offense that they like to spread the ball around. He did get 5 catches his first game in Berlin, but they only passed 33 times when they typically have over 37 per game. But McSix is still the best player they have on offense so they should make it a point to get him the ball. I’m hesitantly taking the over on this one, with a confidence level of 3.

Keanu Calhoun (SJS) – o/u 68.5 Receiving Yards; Speaking of new receivers, Calhoun burst onto the scene in San Jose as he caught 6 balls for 94 yards and touchdowns in his debut. It’s tough to gauge these ones with a rookie on a new team, but Calhoun should at least be the 2nd target if not the top target for a team that LOVES to chuck it. I think Austin is going to make it tough for San Jose so the sim will be forced to passing mode earlier than they’d like, so I’m taking the over on this one and it’s getting my highest vote of confidence at a level 5.

Bengal Tigerheart (BAL) – o/u 7.5 Pancakes; I was on the Tigerheart train for fantasy (granted, all other rankers also had him at 2), but this season has been phenomenal for Bengal. He’s averaging over 8.5 pancakes per game. He’s gotten at least 8 pancakes a game in 6 of the 9 games. As long as Baltimore can put up 20 points, it seems like the over is a lock since they’re at home against Honolulu, who is averaging over 21 points per game allowed. Y’all know how we feel about pancake props but I’m going for the gold on this one and giving it a 4 confidence level.

Joseph Reed (CHI) – o/u 1.5 Negative Plays; I did get a clarification on this. Negative plays refers to TFL’s and sacks only. Currently at 20 combined (11 TFL’s and 9 sacks), Reed is continuing his domination. He has at least 2 negative plays in 6 of the 9 games. He has at least 1 negative play in every game. Going against Colorado, this one seems like there should be ample opportunities for Reed to wreak some havoc. I’m giving the over a shot on this one and a 5 for a confidence level and will be including it in my parlay, even though I know the sim will bone me.

Spottie O'Dopaliscious (AZ) – o/u 2.5 Pass Deflections; Spottie is currently leading the league in pass deflections with 18, so 2 per game. Last time Arizona played New Orleans, Spottie O had 5 (FIVE!) pass deflections. I know the though is, NOLA will be down and need to pass a lot, which gives Spottie many opportunities to get the 3 he’d need to hit the over. However, only 5 players this season have gotten more than 2 in a game against NOLA. While I don’t think it’s impossible, I don’t see it happening this game, so I’m taking the under with a confidence level of 2.

Alright folks, that concludes the week 10 sportsbook analysis! I hope everyone enjoys the games and has a wonderful holiday weekend (for those that celebrate)! If there is a week 11 sportsbook, I likely won’t be able to get to it but that will all depend on when it comes out. Good luck this week and let’s make some money!
