True Rookie™ Primer
S41 True Rookie™ of the Year Awards
S42 True Rookie™ Midseason Update

Come one, come all to the only offseason award that matters, TheRake's True Rookie™ of the Year Awards! If you're new here, first of all WELCOME! If you're confused why the ISFL would have their own ROTY Award instead of just deferring to my methodical and well thought out Rookie Awards then click the top link and join the fight to recognize True Rookies™. If you just need a refresher of who is eligible this year and/or where the race stood after midseason, click the bottom link.

Ok, now that we got the admin piece out of the way, let's get down to business. What S42 lacked in size they more than made up for in sheer girth of quality. @Chicken Lips and @swoosh are two of the highest earning players in the league as new creates and their players  TE Hank Mardukas and CB Dino Nuggets, respectively, showed promise as rookies. Recreates like @Muford and @Frostbite continued to develop future star players in OL Blacksmith Andre and WR Keanu Calhoun while @MouseMazing and @WildfireMicro continue to grind in hopes of getting more playing time in S43. All in all, it was a quality over quantity True Rookie™ that has players who will become household names in 2-3 seasons.

NEW GUIDELINES for S42: I've decided to compute F3PR based on a new guideline for how many total players I count at a position. I'm no longer going to just count up everyone who earned fantasy points at the position and will instead just stick to 'starting' players with the caveat that for OL I'm only going to count human starters. From here on out we'll use 28 for RBs, 42 for WRs, 14 for TEs (unless there's an abundance of backup TEs to make it 28) for Offense. For Defense, it will be 28 for DE and DT, 42 for LB and CB, and 28 for Safeties. If a position group has more human players than the default number, I'll make a judgement call based on the usage of the human players that are at the bottom of the position group.

Offensive True Rookie™ of the Year Nominees

C Blacksmith Andre (@Muford) - Blacksmith Andre confirmed once again that playing OL as a True Rookie™ is way easier than playing Dark Souls, amassing 66 pancakes while not allowing a single sack all season. However, his detractors would say playing C instead of T in the ISFL is more Undead Asylum than it is Blighttown. Regardless of the naysayers, Andre had a great season as the only human OL on SJS's line and will give them an anchor they can rely on for years to come and since we know Muf will (unfortunately) be around awhile, Andre's career is guaranteed to escape that old church basement and shine as bright as a bonfire.
-------------
WR Keanu Calhoun (@Frostbite) - One of my favorite users from Football Chat and Rant, Frostbite turned his season around after the trade from NOLA to SJS, improving from 38 catches for 473 yards and 2 TDs in the first half of the season to 42 catches for 606 yards and 3 TDs, giving him a season total of 80/1079/5 on the year; which was good for top 15 in total yardage among WRs and TEs and the leader in fantasy points among all True Rookies™ on either side of the ball. If he can get his 18% drop rate down significantly, he'll be a star in the league.
-------------
WR Aaron Jäger (@MouseMazing) - As we saw last year with WRs, it's really hard to make an impact as a True Rookie™ WR and Jäger's season was no exception, hauling in only 37 passes for 393 yards and 2 TDs with a 10.8% drop rate and 2 fumbles on the worst passing attack in the league. A-A-Ron will be looking to build on this disappointing season in S43 where he's already guaranteed a starting role which means we should see a healthy increase in stats as long as his OCO teammates uphold their end of the bargain.
-------------
TE Hank Mardukas (@Chicken Lips) - In between talking to his best friend two to three times a week for the last 30 years, Hank Mardukas was able to put up very respectable numbers in his first season in the ISFL, snatching 76 passes for 660 yards and 5 TDs with only 3 drops. Adding 37 pancakes to his stat sheet, Hank totes finished 8th among starting TEs in fantasy points; which would even impress Lou Ferrigno. As a max earner in both the TPE bank and the Bank bank, we'll see Hank next season or we'll see him on another time! Also I think you have my Season 2 LOST DVDs. If you could... If you haven't watched them yet...
-------------
T Shucks McShuckle (@Dukemarriot) - Shucks' season was on autopilot as the True Rookie™ OL has only made it to 106 TPE but that didn't stop him from showing why T is the best position on the OL to stat pad. Utilizing minimal TPE and therefore stats, Shucks had 88 pancakes while allowing 7 sacks, giving him 7% more fantasy points than his max earning True Rookie™ OL counterpart Andre. Unfortunately, since Shucks looks to have McFuckled off, we won't see how his career progresses as NOLA is loaded with picks and will look to replace him after his contract runs out.
-------------
FB Sailor Moon (@WildfireMicro) - S42 won't go down as a memorable one for Sailor Moon as they were used primarily as a blocker all year, accruing only 32 total touches in 16 games for only 121 yards and no TDs. The upside to the limited touches is that Moon led the way for his teammate Beanie Delphine Jr. to rush for the 2nd most yards in the league with his highest yards per attempt of his career. I'm giving Sailor Moon an honorary Most Selfless True Rookie™ of the Year Award.

Defensive True Rookie™ of the Year Nominees

SS Honey Humphries (@Komobro) - Safety is another position that's tough to make an impact due to the high likelihood of playing out of position in year 1 as a True Rookie™. Honey was no exception, putting together a 55 tackle and 5 sack season but only picking off 1 pass and defending 4 more. As a mid level TPE earner, next season won't be much of an improvement but year 3 could be more special once over 500 TPE.
-------------
CB Dino Nuggets (@swoosh) - The GFX Master's inaugural season as a True Rookie™ proved that a big bank (and it's quite large) isn't the only thing you need for success in the ISFL as Dino barely cracked 100 fantasy points by getting 52 tackles, 2 INTs but defending a respectable 21 pass attempts. It's no secret that swoosh is already a power user and that Nugs is well on his way to putting his stamp in the NOLA record books.
-------------
CB Heiiajs Owidhuse (@firstfray) - Lastfray but certainly not leastfray, the DB from KCC had a slow start to the season until Chicago traded away Quarterstorm which thrust Owidhuse into the CB1 role. Thrown straight into the fire, Owidhuse (mostly) answered the call, racking up 65 tackles, 27 pass defenses, and 2 INTs while also being prone to giving up the big play from time to time calling into question Chicago's huge investment. However, not a single Butcher in the LR is worried as Owidhuse wasn't meant to be at the top of the depth chart this season. The future all pro should develop nicely next to star FS Rico Savage in Chicago's No Fly Zone Defense.

AND YOUR OFFENSIVE TRUE ROOKIE™ OF THE YEAR FOR S42 IS...
TE Hank Mardukas! Hank had a great year for a struggling team in transition but provided a huge bright spot on offense. Even though he was tied in F3PR with Shucks McShuckle, Hank continued earning all season and will be a HOF user for seasons to come!

NEXT, YOUR DEFENSIVE TRUE ROOKIE™ OF THE YEAR FOR S42 IS...
CB Heiiajs Owidhuse! With only three defensive players eligible this year, there might be questions about a lack of competition but Owidhuse actually would have ranked 3rd in FP3R in last season's mega class of True Rookies™ defensive players.

FINALLY, YOUR OVERALL TRUE ROOKIE™ OF THE YEAR FOR S42 IS..
WR Keanu Calhoun! Calhoun had a stellar season and matched the highest F3PR as last year's winners at 55%! I look forward to seeing how high he can ascend in the fantasy rankings at a crowded position but there's no denying he's off to a strong start.

With hands like these who needs extremities?

This does not fit my narrative and therefore I reject your assertion.

Better luck next year.
