Feeling Like I Otter Move On - slate - 07-17-2023

I am excited to officially announce that I am stepping down as GM of the Orange County Otters. @UptownCord will be replacing me to lead the team alongside @Beck going forward! Uptown "Chord" Cord has 3 seasons experience as Portland Pythons GM and has been a fantastic contributor to the Otters team culture, locker room, and war room, and I can't wait to see him succeed in this role.

To indulge in a personal note on this transition, I originally took over as GM of the Otters with the team at a low point. We had an aging roster, several recent high profile free agency departures, no draft picks in the S37 draft, and GMs with heavy IRL time commitments that severely limited their available time to manage the team. I had never been particularly interested in ISFL GMing since joining the site, and had only been on the Otters for a season at that point, but I accepted the job when the outgoing GMs offered it to me mostly from the perspective of repairing and rebuilding a team with few alternatives available. With those goals in mind, I view the current state of the Otters, 5-11 record and all, as a great success in accomplishing what I hoped to when I first took over. In some ways I mostly viewed myself as a temporary steward of the team to assist with the transition we've made, and I am more than happy to turn the team over to its full-time caretaker in Cord, someone who cares deeply about maximizing the team's success and who I can see making the team truly their own in the seasons and years to come.

Thank you to everyone who has played a part in helping the Otters' successful rebuild - the veterans who were willing to be traded away for new draft picks when I took over, the new players who were excited to be a part of building something new when they got drafted to a team with a bleak outlook, and the war room members who helped ensure we were collectively making the best decisions we could. And of course, a massive massive thank you to Beck for signing on to co-GM the team with me, you have been an amazing partner throughout this whole process and I can't imagine what it would have been like with anyone else. #HeckYeahBeck

I step down from OCO GM with a 42-52-2 record in 6 seasons. My 6 seasons minus 1 game with Beck somehow makes us the longest-tenured GM pair in OCO history, which is an astonishing fact that no one ever believes when I tell them. The 4 consecutive drafts with multiple 1st round picks from S37-S40 might be an ISFL record, who knows! We are also the only ever GMs to win the IceBear Branding Bracket Championships. That's all the stats I wanted to talk about.

Thanks for reading, and GO OTTERS!!!
