*Ranking the 22 Kickers in the ISFL and DSFL - caleb.grim - 08-23-2023 Field Goals tend to be a hidden aspect of the simulated games in the ISFL and DSFL. So how can we compare the kickers across the leagues? To try to answer this question, I came up with a new metric that I am calling "Field Goal Yards Per Attempt". In order to calculate the score for each player, you take the sum of the distances of any made field goals and divide by the total number of field goal attempts. This will reward kickers that make longer field goals and punish kickers that miss field goals. How good is this metric? You tell me. Here are the rankings of the 22 ISFL and DSFL kickers through this point in their respective seasons (Through Week 8 in ISFL and through Week 5 in DSFL) 22. Kanye Westie (BOT) FGYPA: 17.08 FG: 6/12 Long: 48 Yards Bots are not as good as real users. Nothing new here. 21. Beck HO (GM) FGYPA: 21.00 FG: 8/14 Long 50 Yards GM Bot but still a bot. Not a surprise to see at the end of the rankings. 20. Wayne Rooney (GM) FGYPA: 22.92 FG: 8/12 Long: 52 Yards Another GM bot, another low ranking kicker. 19. Golden Foote FGYPA: 23.58 FG: 7/12 Long: 49 Yards Golden Foote is an interesting case. He has made 4 field goals over 40 yards. You would think that would bump his ranking up. But 5 missed field goals is too much to overcome. 18. Logan Johnson FGYPA: 24.38 FG: 8/13 Long: 53 Yards Logan Johnson is 5/5 on field goals over 40 yards including his long of 53. If Johnson could improve on his short range accuracy, his score would go way up. 17. Wing Wang FGYPA: 24.96 FG: 18/24 Long: 51 Yards The lowest ranked ISFL kicker by FGYPA. Wing Wang has been decent when close as he is 13/15 on field goals under 40 yards. He has attempted (and missed) enough long field goals for his rating to drop. 16. Orlando Doom FGYPA: 26.82 FG: 8/11 Long: 50 Yards Another ISFL kicker that is accurate from close range but has trouble with distance. Doom is 1/3 on field goals over 50 yards. 15. Double Doink FGYPA: 27.35 FG: 14/17 Long: 56 Yards Distance hasn't been an issue for Double Doink this year. His three misses have all come from under 50 yards. 14. Charlie Brown FGYPA: 27.91 FG: 8/11 Long: 49 Yards Charlie Brown is perfect from under 40 yards and hasn't attempted a field goal over 50 yards. Even with decent efficiency, you won't climb high in the rankings without making long field goals. 13. Bob Kickerson FGYPA: 28.57 FG: 14/14 Long: 44 Yards Bob Kickerson has done everything that the Crash have asked of him. They just haven't needed him to connect from deep. His 44 yard long on the season is his only attempt over 40 yards. 12. Zenzeroni Xystarch II FGYPA: 29.60 FG: 8/10 Long: 47 Yards Zenzeroni Xystarch II is one of the more promising DSFL kickers and his score is boosted by 4 field goals made over 40 yards. 11. Jayme Jayne Jay-Jaymison FGYPA: 29.89 FG: 16/18 Long: 49 Yards Jay-Jaymison is an accurate kicker you hasn't had hardly any attempts from distance. Middle of the pack seems about right. 10. Known Acquaintance FGYPA: 32.57 FG: 13/14 Long: 53 Yards Going 12/12 under 50 yards, Known Acquaintance has been automatic when in range. Since 6 of those field goals were from 40-49, his FGYPA is on the higher side. 9. Ray Baker FGYPA: 33.38 FG: 14/16 Long: 50 Yards Ray Baker is 9/11 on field goals over 40 yards. With that many field goals made over 40, he is showing his worth to Honolulu this year. 8. Fieramosca Malatesta FGYPA: 34.40 FG: 5/5 Long: 51 Yards The second highest rated kicker in the DSFL, Malatesta would need more volume before he can cement his role as a top kicker. 7. Eliot Bukowski FGYPA: 34.46 FG: 11/13 Long: 56 Yards Eliot Bukowski is hasn't missed from under 50 yards. With 2 field goals over 50 yards as well, he is quickly establishing himself as one of the better kickers in the league. 6. Unuway Japthat FGYPA: 34.67 FG: 12/12 Long: 55 Yards Unuway Japthat has the top FGYPA of all DSFL kickers. Through just 5 games, he is matching many of his ISFL counterparts. Not counted in this score however are his 2 missed extra points. 5. Swantavius King FGYPA: 34.86 FG: 12/14 Long: 63 Yards Swantavius King has one of the strongest legs in the ISFL. A perfect 3/3 on field goals over 50 yards, I would expect King to stay near the top of this list throughout the season. 4. Mike Makmur FGYPA: 35.21 FG: 13/14 Long: 46 Yards All but one of Mike Makmur's field goals have come from 30-49 yards. Elite efficiency from that range is keeping him this high on the list. 3. Alfonso Dos Santos FGYPA: 35.71 FG: 13/14 Long: 55 Yards One of the lone bright spots for New Orleans this year, Dos Santos' only miss has come from over 50 yards. 2. Booter McGavin FGYPA: 37.06 FG: 16/18 Long: 64 Yards With the longest Field Goal made on the season, Booter McGavin has also shown good enough efficiency to stay high on this list. But his two misses keep him out of the top spot. 1. David Doug FGYPA: 39.00 FG: 9/9 Long: 55 Yards One of only two kickers to not miss a field goal this season, David Doug has also made over half of his kicks from over 40 yards. While Chicago hasn't given him many opportunities, he has made ever one. Do these rankings match your intuition? Kickers, do you feel misplaced?
