*Finding the Most Exciting Players in the League - caleb.grim - 09-02-2023

Football is an exciting sport, even when we are watching little colored circles running around. But not all teams and players are created equal. There are some players that are more exciting with the ball in their hands than others. But who is the most exciting and how could you measure it?

As we take a look at quantifying who is the most exciting player, the criteria that will be used is touchdown yardage on the season. Touchdowns are the most exciting plays in the sport and the longer the touchdown, the better. By looking at the total yards gained on touchdown scoring plays, we can identify the leagues "Most Exciting Players".

10. Matthew Mara, WR NYS @High Stick King
  • Touchdown Yardage: 216 yds
  • Total Touchdowns: 9
  • Average Touchdown Length: 24.0 yds

Starting our list at #10, is the TD yardage leader for the top team in the ASFC. His 9 receiving touchdowns are the tied for the fewest on this list but he has a number of big plays to make up for it. His longest TD was a 69 yard TD reception in Week 6 against San Jose. He also has 3 more TD receptions of over 30 yards.

9. Danny Nedelko, RB ARI @Crunk
  • Touchdown Yardage: 231 yds
  • Total Touchdowns: 14
  • Average Touchdown Length: 16.5 yds

Last season's ISFL Most Outstanding Player is one of this seasons touchdown leaders, and tied for the most touchdowns of anyone on this list. Nedelko has shown explosiveness most of his explosiveness as a runner as he has two TD runs of over 50 yards, including his long of 80 yards that occurred in Week 2 against Austin.

8. Rocky Moreaux, WR BAL @qWest
  • Touchdown Yardage: 231 yds
  • Total Touchdowns: 12
  • Average Touchdown Length: 19.3 yds

While having the same touchdown yardage as Danny Nedelko, Moreaux gets the edge here in excitement because his touchdowns are longer plays on average. All 12 touchdowns have come through the air for Moreaux with his longest of 71 yards coming in Week 3 against Berlin. While Moreaux has been explosive this year, with 4 touchdowns of over 20 yards, he has a teammate that is even more exciting. (See #6)

7. Tyler Hunt, WR NOR @Tyrathiel
  • Touchdown Yardage: 279 yds
  • Total Touchdowns: 9
  • Average Touchdown Length: 31.0 yds

As the only DSFL player on this list, Tyler Hunt is showing that Yellowknife might have gotten a steal in the 3rd round of this year's ISFL draft. While one could argue that Hunt has played against much weaker competition, he also has amassed these totals in three fewer games. His longest touchdown was a 98 yard kickoff return in Week 8 against Bondi Beach. Though he isn't up here solely for his return prowess as he has 3 TD receptions of over 30 yards.

6. Shane Turnbull, WR BAL @Symmetrik
  • Touchdown Yardage: 294 yds
  • Total Touchdowns: 11
  • Average Touchdown Length: 26.7 yds

The second Baltimore Hawk wide receiver on this list, Shane Turnbull adds a 77 yard punt return TD in Week 12 against Berlin to his 10 receiving touchdowns. Among those touchdowns, three are over 40 yards. This dynamic due of Turnbull and Moreaux at wide receiver is a big reason that Baltimore finds itself as one of the favorites for the Ultimus this season.

5. Jeff Newman, RB AUS @Lumosityfan
  • Touchdown Yardage: 314 yds
  • Total Touchdowns: 10
  • Average Touchdown Yardage: 31.4 yds

Jeff Newman provides excitement both as a runner and a receiver. He has four touchdowns of over 60 yards, two rushing and two receiving. His longest was a 78 yard reception in Week 1 against Honolulu. The only reason Newman isn't higher on the list is that his 10 total touchdowns also include four 1-yd touchdown runs.

4. Florida Man, WR HON @nickyvmlp
  • Touchdown Yardage: 319 yds
  • Total Touchdowns: 9
  • Average Touchdown Yardage: 35.4 yds

Honolulu's big play machine, Florida Man has 6 of his 9 touchdowns coming from outside the Red Zone. His longest touchdown was a punt return TD of 64 yards in Week 4 against New York, though he also has touchdown receptions of 32, 41, 44, 49, and 60. With plays like these, Florida Man has shown that he belongs in the discussion of "Most Exciting Player" even though he is tied for the fewest total touchdowns on this list.

3. Money Tolliver, RB YKW @jeffie43
  • Touchdown Yardage: 328 yds
  • Total Touchdowns: 12
  • Average Touchdown Yardage: 27.3 yds

A true dual threat, Money Tolliver has 7 rushing touchdowns and 5 receiving touchdowns. Among those scores, 3 of them have been from over 50 yards including a 77 yard TD reception in Week 8 against Honolulu. With half of his touchdowns also coming in the red zone, Tolliver has shown that he can bring excitement to the game from anywhere on the field.

2. Johnny Blaze Jr., WR SAR @JBLAZE_THE_BOSS
  • Touchdown Yardage: 371 yds
  • Total Touchdowns: 14
  • Average Touchdown Yardage: 26.5 yds

The ISFL's leader in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns has shown his explosiveness repeatedly this year. Including 6 receiving touchdowns of 30 yards of more, Johnny Blaze Jr. is scoring from all over the field. His receiving stat line of 110-1605-14 is even within striking distance of the ISFL record book.

1. Big McLarge Huge, WR OCO @Hydrium
  • Touchdown Yardage: 423 yds
  • Total Touchdowns: 10
  • Average Touchdown Yardage: 42.3 yds

The title of "Most Exciting Player" so far this season has to be Big McLarge Huge. He started off the year with a bang, registering his longest touchdown of the season in Week 1 against San Jose with an 86 yard TD reception. Since then, he has been rattling off long touchdowns including reception touchdowns of 38, 47, 49, 63, and 75 yards.

Honorable Mentions:
Calvin Spiff, WR  YKW @domffl 206 Touchdown Yardage
Delores Bickerman, WR  AUS @Kyamprac 205 Touchdown Yardage

Armor Queen so boring, not even the stream stuff cares about her!

But yes, TD YPG is great excitement measurement! Nothing more exciting with dots than TDs
