*Dominator Power Rankings - ISFL - caleb.grim - 10-16-2023

Thank you for checking in on another edition of Dominator Power Rankings. These rankings are derived from how much time a team spends winning their games (how dominant they are). For more detailed information, please take a look at the original post here.

Time to see who is up and who is down for this week's rankings!

ISFL Dominator Power Rankings - Week 7

14. NOLA New Orleans Secondline NOLA (1-6)
Last Edition Rank: 14th (-8.829)
Dominator Score: -11.339
% of Time Winning: 18.3%
% of Time Losing: 68.7%

The past three weeks have not been kind to the Secondline. In all three games they entered the 4th quarter down double digits. With their defense giving up 30+ points each of the last 6 games (all losses), the offense is struggling to keep up. With three road games coming up against Colorado, New York, and Arizona, it's hard to see a positive path forward for New Orleans. A player to keep an eye on is their rookie quarterback Octavion Speedings (@CeeKay). With the Secondline behind often late in games, Speedings has been throwing the ball all over the field and leads the ISFL in passing completions and attempts by a significant margin. With a decent 2:1 TD/INT ratio, as Speedings improves, so will the Secondline's chances.

Season Predictions Based on Dominator Rankings: 1-15

13. CHI Chicago Butchers CHI (1-6)
Last Edition Rank: 13th (-8.035)
Dominator Score: -9.351
% of Time Winning: 21.5%
% of Time Losing: 66.5%

The Butchers were close to taking a step up the ladder but lost a heartbreaker to the Sailfish on a safety week 5. Since then, they haven't been able to recover, losing twice in a row by double digits. Chicago has struggled offensively this season and have only eclipsed 20 points one time. While not losing in quite the same way as New Orleans, the Butchers are considered an easy win on everyone's schedule. A player to keep an eye on is 2nd year runningback Jake Jefferson (@thecanadiancanuck). Thrust into the spotlight with the trade of Frank Dux (@ComebackZak) to New York last season, Jefferson has answered the call ranking third in the ISFL in rushing so far this season. His efficiency could improve as he is averaging only 3.7 yards per attempt but there is only so much you can do behind an (almost) all BOT offensive line.

Season Prediction Based on Dominator Rankings: (1-15)

12. SAR Sarasota Sailfish SAR (2-5)
Last Edition Rank: 12th (-7.849)
Dominator Score: -7.100
% of Time Winning: 18.7%
% of Time Losing: 60.8%

The Sailfish have dug themselves a hole filled with "what-if" games. Six of their seven games have been one-score games but Sarasota has been on the losing side more often than not. Even with the 3rd worst record in the ISFL, they only sit at a -20 point differential. The Sailfish have also spent 77.8% of their games with the teams within one-score of each other (the highest such mark in the ISFL). It just so happens that they are on the wrong side of these close games. Being consistently behind knocks the Sailfish towards the bottom of these rankings. A player to watch is LB Max Honestly (@"LeSizz"). Following up on a stellar season, the third-year pro is quickly reminding everyone that he deserves to be counted as one of the ISFL's top defenders. With top 5 totals in tackles, tackles for loss, and forced fumbles, Honestly has been responsible for helping keep Sarasota's opponents out of the endzone.

Season Prediction Based on Dominator Rankings: (3-13)

11. YKW Yellowknife Wraiths YKW (3-4)
Last Edition Rank: 10th (-3.135)
Dominator Score: -4.907
% of Time Winning: 26.6%
% of Time Losing: 57.2%

The Wraiths have been up and down all season but a blowout loss to Berlin last week knocks them down a spot this week. A struggling defense is keeping the Wraiths in a whole early and often. While they have been much more competitive than the teams already mentioned, Yellowknife isn't tricking anyone into believing that they are contenders for the Ultimus this season. A player to keep an eye on is rookie kicker Zenzeroni Xystarch II (@lock180). Having missed only one field goal so far this season, Xystarch projects to be one of the best special teamers in the ISFL for years to come. Even if this season can get a little frustrating.

Season Prediction Based on Dominator Rankings: 6-10

10. SJS San Jose SaberCats SJS (2-5)
Last Edition Rank: 3rd (7.001)
Dominator Score: -3.193
% of Time Winning: 37.8%
% of Time Losing: 46.4%

Talk about a team falling apart, San Jose showed that they are more like paper tigers than true contenders. Three straight 20+ point losses and it seems generous to only drop the Sabercats to number 10. With a game against Chicago up next, they have an opportunity to turn things around but it's hard to have any confidence in them going forward. Amidst the recent turmoil, WR Keanu Calhoun (@Frostbite) has been a bright spot. The third year receiver is 2nd in the ISFL with 678 receiving yards and a 3rd best 16.1 yards per catch. Can he continue this stretch to establish himself as one the league's best?

Season Prediction Based on Dominator Rankings: 4-12

9. COL Colorado Yeti COL (3-4)
Last Edition Rank: 8th (0.595)
Dominator Score: -2.393
% of Time Winning: 35.8%
% of Time Losing: 46.0%

The Yeti were able to snap a four game losing streak with a high scoring affair against Sarasota but they will need to clean up the mistakes on offense if they want to have a chance at repeating as a playoff team. During the aforementioned 4 game losing streak, they lost the turnover battle 10 to 0. It would be hard for any team, even one more talented than the Yeti, to overcome such a disadvantage. A surprise so far this season has been the play of WR National Treasure (@electrictree). He has been a big play machine while leading the league with 17.7 yards per reception and 9 receiving touchdowns. He is becoming the perfect complement to Mister Hogmally (@iStegosauruz) in the Yeti's high powered passing attack.

Season Predictions Based on Dominator Rankings: 7-9

8. OCO Orange County Otters OCO (3-4)
Last Edition Rank: 11th (-6.959)
Dominator Score: 0.869
% of Time Winning: 37.9%
% of Time Losing: 43.1%

The Otters have done a lot to help themselves over the last few games, especially with the dismantling of the Arizona Outlaws during week 6. In order to continue this strong performance, Orange County must figure out a way to start every game with the intensity they so often kick on in the second half. They have trailed at halftime in 5 of their 7 games so far this season even though they have come back to win two of those. Second year QB Lloyd Bannings (@bowl0) has been very efficient so far this year, leading the league in passing yards and ranking second in touchdowns and passer rating. After a strong rookie year last season, Bannings is quickly establishing himself as a household name.

Season Predictions Based on Dominator Rankings: 8-8

7.  ARI Arizona Outlaws ARI (5-2)
Last Edition Rank: 5th (4.421)
Dominator Score: 1.453
% of Time Winning: 41.6%
% of Time Losing: 31.1%

While the Outlaws recently handed the Crash their only loss of the season, it is hard to ignore the utter collapse against the Orange County Otters the week before. While there is no denying that Arizona is a good team (and they have a great track record in this league), they don't often overwhelm opponents and just play good enough to earn victories. They seem like a team that can beat anyone on a good day and lose to anyone on a bad day. A rising star for the Outlaws this season has been CB Benjamin Duvernay (@Purpl3Spartan). His 53 tackles are top in the league among cornerbacks to go along with 3 interceptions (tied for 2nd in the ISFL).

Season Predictions Based on Dominator Rankings: 10-6

6. BAL Baltimore Hawks BAL (5-2)
Last Edition Rank: 9th (-1.071)
Dominator Score: 3.435
% of Time Winning: 53.1%
% of Time Losing: 29.7%

The Hawks have started to hit their groove after a slow start to the season. Three straight wins have Baltimore within one game of the conference lead. While their offense hasn't been able to match the output of last season, their defense has been picking up the slack. An overtime victory in an Ultimus rematch with New York is their highlight of the season thus far. 10th year pro Kumquat Archipelago (@ReverendOReily) has shown the ability to keep regression at bay as shows burst as both a runner and receiver. Averaging more than 5 yards per attempt on the ground and leading all running backs with 45 catches, he is on pace for his best total yardage season of his career.

Season Predictions Based on Dominator Rankings: 10-6

5. HON Honolulu Hahalua HON (5-2)
Last Edition Rank: 6th (1.304)
Dominator Score: 4.081
% of Time Winning: 49.1%
% of Time Losing: 31.1%

While you could argue that their recent opponents have been subpar, the Hahalua have taken care of business each and every week. The 43-7 beatdown of the SaberCats really cemented where both teams belong in the ISFL hierarchy. With a lot of competition in the ASFC for playoff spots, Honolulu will continue to rid the recent hot streak to remain in the playoff picture. A player worth mentioning here is K/P Ray Baker (@jdc4654). While he is perfect on field goals under 50 yards on the season, maybe the most important stat is that he has the least number of punts in the ISFL. A true sign that the Hahalua offense is running at peak efficiency. (Oh, and 50% of those punts have pinned opponents inside their own 20!)

Season Predictions Based on Dominator Rankings: 12-4

4. AUS Austin Copperheads AUS (4-3)
Last Edition Rank: 7th (1.104)
Dominator Score: 5.987
% of Time Winning: 56.2%
% of Time Losing: 22.1%

A close loss to Arizona followed by blowout wins over New Orleans and San Jose have the Copperheads climbing the rankings. While their record is worse than many other teams ranked this high, their level of dominance shows that they deserve to be considered among the upper echelon of the ISFL. A strong defense (1st against the run, 2nd against the pass) has been able to keep Austin close in all of their games. One of the leaders of that defense is Tank McGibbons (@MikeWhiskey). Second in the ISFL with 7 sacks on the season, McGibbons has also registered 7 passes defended, showing that he can do more than just rush that passer.

Season Predictions Based on Dominator Rankings: 11-5

3. CTC Cape Town Crash CTC (6-1)
Last Edition Rank: 1st (8.834)
Dominator Score: 6.669
% of Time Winning: 54.1%
% of Time Losing: 18.5%

Potentially a surprise drop for the Crash from the top spot, their most recent loss to Arizona showed their vulnerabilities as the Outlaws gashed Cape Town for 175 yards rushing while averaging almost 6 yards per carry. The Crash's other wins up to this point have been convincing but not dominant and thus we need to see more from them before moving them back up to the top spot. But we can't talk about the Crash's season without bringing up the stellar play of the quarterback, Creg Jerrith IV (@negs). An early league MVP favorite, Jerrith has an astonishing 18-2 TD to INT ratio which gives him an unheard of 115.0 QB Rating. Continued play like that will definitely see the Crash end up back on top.

Season Predictions Based on Dominator Rankings: 13-3

2. BER Berlin Fire Salamanders BER (4-3)
Last Edition Rank: 4th (5.016)
Dominator Score: 6.719
% of Time Winning: 56.9%
% of Time Losing: 28.8%

While the Fire Salamanders started off slow, they have won 4 of their last 5 and have not just won those games, but won most of them handily. They have turned in some truly dominant performances which help them reach the 2nd spot despite their mediocre record. Undefeated at home, the Fire Salamanders have also kept all their games close. If they could receive a few more sim blessings on the road, this team could go far in the playoffs. One of their stars this year has been CB Charlie Thorsen (@Amidships). Leading the league with 19 passes defended, Thorsen also has made a difference in the return game with an average of 27.8 yards per return. Add on to that a pick six, and the Fire Salamanders have themselves a difference maker.

Season Predictions Based on Dominator Rankings: 12-4

1. NYS New York Silverbacks NYS (5-2)
Last Edition Rank: 2nd (7.602)
Dominator Score: 9.070
% of Time Winning: 62.0%
% of Time Losing: 16.5%

The Silverbacks are dominating the ISFL in every sense of the word. They have spent the most time winning their games and the least time losing their games. What more can you ask for? Yes I know that Baltimore found a way to beat them recently but they are routinely beating teams by double digits. With the top rushing offense in the league, once New York gets ahead, it can be difficult to mount a comeback. Linebacker Bay Webb (@TheHammer43) has had a promising first half of the year. Tied for the league lead with 8 sacks, Webb also is the only defender in the ISFL who has recorded multiple safeties.

Season Prediction Based on Dominator Rankings: 14-2
