"You're a Wizard Timmy"

That was the first thing I heard every time I talked about football around my family.  As the son of an auror, wizard culture always came first. I can remember getting my first wand from Ollivander’s.  It was made with the tusks of not one but two critically endangered species: the African Forest Elephant and the Greater One-Horned Rhino.  Their tusks' beautiful coloring looked magnificent in my wand and provided the perfect flex for casting protection spells. I have always been one of the best duelers at Hogwarts and was a skilled keeper in Quidditch but I was more interested in football.

Unfortunately, the Riggins family has always had a deep connection with Wizard Culture. My “granpapa “was also an auror, just like his grandfather, “peepaw” was an auror and his “granfuego” before him was an auror.  The Riggins family have always been aurors.  My family didn’t even know what football was until I began to play with the muggle children in the Texan neighborhood we grew up in. The sport was everywhere in Texas and we immediately became hooked on the game and classic Texas BBQ because who doesn’t like brisket.

When the Wizarding world began to allow Muggle sports in schools thanks to a forward thinking Minister of Magic, Hogwarts soon followed suit and I immediately began to play for our middle school team.  My father was furious as he had strong beliefs that muggles and wizards “don’t mix”, but I didn’t care as Football was my true love. I quickly made an impression on the Hogwarts high school staff and rose through the rankings, eventually getting recruited by Head Coach Albus Dumbledore to play for the Hogwarts University team.

By the time I got to the university level, Hogwarts had already made a huge name for itself and was a consistent top 25 powerhouse in college football. In my 4 years within Coach Mcgonagal’s West Wizard Coast offense, I became what I always knew I could be, the Greatest Football Player Wizard Tight End of All Time.  Rolls right off the tongue.  When I finally won the John Mackey award for best Tight End in College I saw my father shed a tear and say, “you’re not a wizard Timmy, you’re a goddamn football player”.

As Coach Dumbledore used to say, “Clear Eyes, Full Wands, Can’t Lose”

Yotes in 4

With Love,
Tim Riggins
