*Late Night Mock - Post CC Round - Part 2 - roquefort - 03-08-2024

Go read part 1 first and then make sure you stick around to the end to find out which fellow-rookie will be presenting Round Two of the draft tomorrow!

Before getting into the picks, I do want to disclaim that I was *WRONG* about a rumor regarding @Baron1898. Evidently they did NOT request for any new users to be taken before them, and thus my analysis for picks 1.01-1.02 are slightly off. That being said, I think my logic for passing on the high-end WRs applies the exact same to Baron, and thus should not impact the draft by and large.

Now that we've cleared that up, let's get right into the picks. Just kidding, I need my classic post disclaimer-disclaimer (trademarked). This is a post-rock climbing media post, so my virgo intuition may be impacted by the repeated trauma to by brain after a night of consistently falling off of stuff.

Round One (part two)

1.05 - New York Silverbacks  NYS  - María Teresa de la Rosa, WR, Bondi. @Baron1898

Blurb: I spoke about Baron with my initial post, and she still needs no introduction. She's a bomb user, and is the top offensive player of the class. With Riggins picked at 4, I don't think the Silverbacks will risk passing on Baron now - they may not have a premium option available in the second.

If I'm NYS: Oo oo!! Monkey noises aside, I think this is a no-brainer. Baron has played in NYS in the past, and still rocks their icon on the main discord. I do not know the extent of the team's relation with Baron, but I don't see why it would be anything but superb. Sitting behind Sean Robinson (S41) we have a pair of aging receivers (S36 and S37 respectively) who will be hitting HEAVY regression at this point in their careers. NYS will need an IMMEDIATE WR2, which gives Baron the ability for an insta-callup and to start collecting stats for her future hall of fame campaign. While she will sit behind Sean for the first few seasons, they have a very team-friendly gap between them, and she'll be hitting her TPE prime right as Sean begins to decline - which would be a natural transition for the team. Given her history with the team, I imagine they may be more likely to include clauses into her contract that favor her on the depth chart or give her general positive-prejudice in the passing game.

If I'm Baron: I'm already afraid of speaking for Baron after I already contributed to the spread of a potentially draft-changing rumor, so I'll be brief here. I think this is a great situation for her player, with the single caveat regarding the QB situation. Blaine Falco (S39) is regressing, and Baron's peak years he will likely be gone. They have a DSFL QB in the pipeline in Scudl McDiddl (S45) but he sits at an unimpressive 305 TPE for his class and may not be the long term solution for NYS once Falco is retired. I do think this can be rectified by targeting a QB later in this draft, which would make a TON of sense in my opinion. There's several stud QBs, and picking one in the same class as Baron would line up their TPE progression perfectly and set her up to have a consistent quarterback for her whole career - a massive boon to someone I *think* is chasing the hall.

Redteam: Will Baron really go somewhere they'll have to play WR2 for years? is NYS so myopic to ignore other positions of need? NYS needs help on defense with two of their 3 rostered LBs deep into regression, and zero LBs waiting to be called up. At this pick you likely have your pick of the litter with LBs, and it's going to be tempting to take one ehre. I do think there's a *small* chance that a user like Dunkler is here, who would likely be a quick plug-in over Action Bronson (S40, 315 TPE) and be the final piece in what is already a very impressive DL in NYS. NYS could also go CB here, either going Cloud (i'm not saying your player name - zoomer), or grabbing either of the "drafted" CBs if they fall. I do think this is high priority position for them: while they have Riddler comign into his prime, and the aging Bonzi Buddy only has Tyrell Ramsey (S44, 226 TPE) as a replacement - who is not a max earner. They're going to need a CB in this draft, but they may feel comfortable taking a user like Dason Dehorn (@modpro) in the second. I lean LB though, and I think they're very likely to have a solid option available at 2.05 in a class with few standouts but many earners in the position.

1.06 - Cape Town Crash   CTC   - Swantavius Stack, OL, Snek. @Swanty

Blurb: This is admittingly probably the pick I'm least confident in. Cape Town is a well built team with few glaring holes, so I think they take the luxury pick and BPA in Swanty here.

If I'm CTC: They only roster a single player OL, and while they do have 90overall bots across the board - I can see them grabbing a STUD user in Swanty here and saving the cash on bots down the line. Looking long term, grabbing an OL here reinforces the team's running identity with scrambling QB Thor + S46 DSFL MVP and handsome feller Scorch Von Turbo @lordcoolcats in the backfield. Waiting behind LCC is RB Dru Freduci (@Keyg_an), so it's obvious that CTC plans to run the ball down peoples throats for the next 10 seasons. I don't know much about Swanty, but he seems like a legend from what I gather on the forums and discord. Dude has a Vince Wilfork PFP, he was born to play a hog-molly mauling OL.

If I'm Swanty: Nice? This is a team with a ton of upside, and I think it's going to be a "OL friendly gameplan" moving forward. I'd be excited to block for a guy like Scorch, and it's probably the best early landing spot for an OL looking to win some rings in the future and help the team put up massive rushing yards YoY.

Redteam: Only other need I can really consider here is Safety - they have Sebastian Lovecraft (S45, 355 TPE) in the pipeline - but he hasn't made a post in nearly a month and may be a risk for IA. The top safety in the class Eric Beaty Jr. (@bechtudo) is likely to be here, and while I do think it's a mild reach - they'd be plugging the only "hole" I can think of. Speaking of reaching, you could make an argument to grab a solid DT in Mo Money (@agorka) here, but with his CDL sidelining his TPE earning for a few weeks, he may be around at 2.06 for them to grab.

1.07 - Chicago Butchers  CHI - Brad Woof, WR, Snek. @Brad Woof

Blurb: Brad was already discussed heavily above, and for good reason - this guy could be WELL off the board by now. He's undeniably a high value pick at 7, and while WR may not seem like a major need to Chicago on the surface, I'll explain why I think this is a better pick than it looks at first glance.

If I'm CHI: You may be saying: "Roquefort, you silly mouse, Chicago is rostering 5! frickin WRs. Why in the world would they go WR here?" - and to that I have several answers.

1. While they roster a ton of WRs, two are IA in A Waffle and Teenie Hodges and likely won't be on the roster next season. Austin Morley is already retired and recreating as a QB, leaving only Jay Money and Sem'ga Nah'sim as real WRs. Jay (S39) has his best years behind him and did not have a particularly impressive peak (938 TPE). Nah'Sim (S43) still has room to grow, and will likely be a top WR for the next few seasons. While Brad will be sitting behind him, he'll likely end up as the WR2 in a VERY pass heavy offense and will have the opportunity to put up fantastic numbers while developing. He'll have several stretches as WR1 during his peak TPE seasons - which will likely be enough to keep this dawg happy.

2. They roster a ton of WRs. This is a pass first team, and they're not hiding it. While they do have Corey Trevor sitting in the DSFL, they were one of the heaviest passing offenses in the league this season and I see no reason to why that should change.

3. Penguin ain't getting younger - they may be targeting a QB in this draft. As previously mentioned, Austin Morley (@soevil) is recreating as a QB, and I think is someone they will be grabbing in a future round. It makes a ton of sense to grab a top-tier WR here to develop alongside your future franchise QB. It's mutually beneficial for both players as well as the team, and I think it makes too much sense not to happen.

If I'm Brad: woof. I think the only knock on this pick is sitting behind Nah'Sim, but looking at Chicago's S46 season they're not afraid to feed the whole team. Their leading receiver was WR3? Austin Morley, who despite being only ~650 TPE this season put up 106 receptions for 1.2k yards and 11 TDs. I think Brad could get this production as WR2, and should be super excited to join this high flying offense. While he may prefer to be WR1 somewhere else, I'm not sure if he has a realistic chance to fall to any team where he'd move up the depth chart sooner than Chicago.

Redteam: Chicago has a well built roster, with no massive holes. I could see them targeting a CB, with their S41 Cb2 sitting at a mere 600 TPE, they should be looking for a high earner in this spot. As such, Cloud is another great option here. The argument against CB is that Chicago already rosters 3 safeties and has another coming up from the DSFL at some point. Safety can play CB without a massive penalty, so they may prioritize WR now and look to grab a CB later in the draft or even next season. There is an argument to pick up OL here, and with Swanty off the board I think Dominic Reynolds (@Standardan) would be a great option here as well. Chicago has a great track record with developing OLs, and GM Triceracop is one of the most productive at the position in the league. With their pocket passing QB it makes sense to protect him, and with Corey Trevor in the pipeline they could grab another people-mover at this pick.

1.08 - San Jose Sabercats  SJS   - Mooty Poop-Eater, CB, Cat. @Asked Madden

Blurb: This is the first of 4 "no brainers" I have in the first round of this draft. To anyone who doesn't know, Asked Madden has had two (that I know of) players on SJS in the past, and is basically a lifer of the team. I've heard scouting rumors that he's indicated he'd like to go back, so this really needs no justification on either end here. SJS also controls 1.09, so this pick is even less meaningful.

If I'm SJS: I get my guy.

If I'm Asked Madden: I get to go to my team.

Redteam: none, I think this is happening.

1.09 - San Jose Sabercats  SJS  - Dominic Reynolds, OL, Duck. @Standardan

Blurb: That's right, that OL I just talked about in the Chicago segment is back here. Reynolds is the next best OL in the draft, and SJS has a two-pronged assault in the backfield, currently spearheaded by FOUR player OLs. In for a penny, in for a pound. SJS reinforces their strategy and preps a new high-earning OL to replace the retiring Owen Farrell (asked madden, lol) and continue to smash the league with their run attack.

If I'm SJS: I think this makes a lot of sense here. The roster is built well, with users in every key position. They got their CB of the future with the last pick, and their defense doesn't need much more help. They have a CB, LB, and S all waiting to be called up down in the DSFL, so they can afford to take a luxury pick on a nice-fatty up front. Dan is a great user and alltogether chill guy. I don't know a ton about the SJS lockerroom, but Daniel is someone I see fitting in anywhere.

If I'm Dom Reynolds: hell yeah! SJS is a team committed to dominating the trenches, and is the perfect spot for a rookie OL. This is somewhere that will call you up early, hand you a spatula, buy you some maple syrup, and get you cooking up those pancakes. If I'm a user OL, I'm psyched to be apart of a proper unit and I'd look forward to manhandling DLs for years to come.

Redteam: I don't think there's much argument against this one either. With a series of staggered WRs, two young RBs, a TE about to get called up - SJS needs no help in the skill positions. On Defense, they could  look to grab another DL here with Ronald McDonald (S44) IA. I think Luke Laraque (@Blix900) would be a high value selection here. He's the best DE remaining at this point (Dunkler won't be here) and seems to have zero red flags going into the draft. He's another guy I don't know much about, but coming from Tijuana gives me confidence as they rarely miss on their prospects and have a long history of developing fantastic defensive linemen.

1.10 - Orange County Otters   OCO  - zoomer name, CB, birddog?. @Cloud

Blurb: Aside from the insufferable name, Cloud is a great value pick at 10th overall. He's the highest earning CB by TPE (post TDL recreate) and OCO will want to grab a max-earning CB now to set up for the long-term future. This roster is stacked, and I really don't know what other position you'd be looking for here.

If I'm OCO: I think this is teetering on a no brainer. You have a disgusting roster, nothing you need to prioritize, and the highest TPE CB of the class just fell to you at 10oa. Both of Dallas' GMs play for OCO, and I'm sure they will be petitioning hard to get their boy to join them in the ISFL.

If I'm Cloud: I'm happy here. You get to join up with your DAL GMs in the big leagues, probably stay down and help DAL compete in more Ulti's while the OCO CBs begin to age and give you a spot. I don't know enough about Cloud to really psychoanalyze this landing spot, and I imagine he'd be happy to join a roster that gives him a very high chance of winning a ring early on in his career.

Redteam: Not too much to argue with here. I think this is a logical pick through and through. I would be tempted by Reginald Hammerfall (@Fangorn) at this pick, who is the top RB of this class and also on DAL - giving him the same OCO LR linkup. While Reginald Shrubbery (S42, fantasy god) isn't slowing down anytime soon, OCO could be looking for a backup RB with Adebayo Akinfenwa (S35) on his way out, and as I've said above - they can afford the luxury depth pick. There's no RBs waiting for them in the pipeline, so you're probably looking to grab one in this draft. The real question is if they think Fangorn will still be around when it comes back to them in ROUND THREE of this draft. Personally, I think not.

1.11 - Austin Copperheads  AUS - Soul King Brook - RB, Duck. @TwoSocks

Blurb: This is gonna be another boring no brainer. TwoSocks is an Austin player, and I think he's going to be back on Austin here. With no 2nd round pick in this draft, you get your guy here. I have ZERO evidence for this, but I could see TwoSocks being open to a position swap to WR here and being plugged in immediately as WR3 for this perennial contender.

If I'm AUS: I get my guy

If I'm Soul King Brook: I get my team

Redteam: With your only two WRs on the roster hitting regression, you need a WR here. Perhaps TwoSocks is married to RB, and perhaps they pass on him - in this theoretical you go another WR here, and I think the best available is JJ What? @JJ5 out of Norfolk. I'll talk more about him.. soon, but he'd be a good fit here and is likely one of his most desired landing spots as he'd have a QUICK path to WR1.

1.12 - Baltimore Hawks  BAL - JJ What? - WR, Sub. @JJ5

Blurb: told you I'd talk about him shortly. WR is the pick for BAL IMO, and here's why: while they currently roster 4 WRs, 3 are hitting regression and aren't long for the league. The 4th is DL14, who's been on the trade block for the majority of S46 and as such isn't someone I imagine will be sticking around long term. With QB of the future Chappy McChapperson in the pipeline, they need weapons for him - and they need them now. With the draft shaping up this way, lots of WRs are off the board at this point, and you grab whoever is left.

If I'm BAL: JJ is a natural fit for this team. For all the reasons I stated above, BAL needs a WR. JJ is someone who has defied the odds and gone from waiver pickup to first round draftee, quickly finding himself at home in the league. He's printed money with the grift of the century media post (his backstory) and has already found himself as the GM of a DSFL team (Norfolk). He's max earned from the moment he's joined, and while he is slightly behind the other WRs in this class in TPE, he's made it obvious that that gap will only be closing moving forward. As a Norfolk player, I can personally attest that BAL is getting one of the best users in the draft late in the first.

If I'm JJ: I'm stoked. This is the exact scenario I think he is looking for. Baltimore is a contending team that knows how to build a roster and win some games. They have a clear pipeline to play JJ at WR1 in the near future, and they already have his QB of the future locked up and developing nicely in the DSFL. I don't have too much more to say on this, I think this is a great fit for JJ and Swoosh would get the most out of him.

Redteam: Hard to argue against this one. I really think WR is the move here, Baltimore doesn't have too many other question marks moving forward. The other options for WR here are Julian Rose (@Gage2) and Jonathan Irons (@jadda123876), who are neck and neck in TPE. Both of them would also be great picks, and both would be first round locks if this draft was slightly less stacked. JRose comes *highly* regarded from his lockerroom, who can't stop praising the guy. He's a high earner and may be less needy in regards to his position on a depth chart. Jonathan Irons is a name to look out for. Jadda, or Jackie, is a stud user who I've heard has impressed every scout they've spoken to. They're not afraid to hop on a gameday cast, and overall has impressed me as a mature and cool person to speak to within the league. They'd be a fantastic pick here, and may also be more flexible with their usage in the first few years of their ISFL career.

1.13 - Yellowknife Wraiths  YKW  - Lane Wilson - WR, Cat. @dustywilson22

Blurb: With all this talk of WRs, and me saying "best WR left", you've probably been screaming this name. I've ignored him up to this point because I don't see him going anywhere else. This is a Yellowknife player, who as far as I can tell, wants to play on YKW again. I think this is the pick, and I won't waste more time discussing it.

If I'm YKW: I get my guy

If I'm Dusty: I get my team

Redteam: fix your logo pls. ruining my post.

1.14 - Arizona Outlaws  ARI   - Sewage Joe Fantringham - DT, dogbird?. @BRNXB0MBERS

Blurb: Wrapping up this draft we have a pick that's just as anticlimactic as Arizona winning the Ulti. BRNX is a AZ player who's going to want to go back to AZ, and I don't think either party is pretending that won't happen. If you don't think this is the pick here, come find me in the casino channels. No point analyzing this - AZ gets their guy,  he gets his team... yada yada.

Redteam: Maybe Arizona has a change of heart and drafts a new user? This roster has no obvious flaws, and any positions looking to age out already have replacements in the DSFL pipeline. I can see a world where they grab Luke Laraque (@Blix900) here, given the TIJ-AZ connection. With two DTs in the pipeline, he could sit in the DSFL for 3 more seasons and continue the tradition of bullying the rest of the league.

CONCLUSION

It should go without saying that everything I've wrote here is solely my opinion. When I said I didn't speak to a GM or player about their picks - I wasn't kidding. If you read everything, thank you - I hope you enjoyed.

Before you go - make sure you stay tuned for ROUND TWO! Presented by STEAL OF THE DRAFT TYLER HIGBEE II @SensibleDictator. Be on the lookout, should be dropping tomorrow.

A true LOL on my end for "Zoomer name"
