*DSFL Penalty Rankings - kckolbe - 10-04-2017

#1 Tijuana Luchadores, 371 penalty yards against
Change from last week: +0
5-5 record (5 home, 5 away), PD 168-188. O rank: 6th D rank: 5th

It just keeps looking worse for this team. After 4 games, they have gone from league-best point differential to league-worst. It’s a great argument for DSFL parity, but to me this looks like collapse. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on perspective), the flags continue to fall in their favor, as they not only hold their lead in that category, but improve it. Fun fact: this is one of two DSFL teams this year without a home loss or a road win.

#2 Portland Pythons, 416 penalty yards against
Change from last week: +0
4-6 record (5 home, 5 away), PD 144-155. O rank: 2nd D rank: 1st

Once again, we see a team that was looking dominant take a fall after an impressive run, but a home loss to the Marshals has this team back with a losing record and point differential, yet somehow also holding the 2nd most offensive yards (despite fewest points for) and lowest yards allowed (though 3rd lowest points allowed). The Pythons have an uphill battle to face over the next four games if they want to catch Chicago, but they may have the easiest schedule remaining.

#3 Chicago Blues, 477 penalty yards against
Change from last week: +0
6-4 record (5 home, 5 away), PD 165-179. O rank: 4th D rank: 6th

A blowout loss in week 9 and a blowout win in week 10 leave this team right back where they started. This team may be the best argument for why tiebreakers should be settled by point differential instead of points for, as the Blues somehow have the 2nd-worst point differential in the league, yet currently own home field advantage all the way to the Relicum Trophy. A trip to San Antonio Week 12 might change that, though if they receive 93 fewer penalty yards like last time they met, it may only solidify their inexplicable dominance.

#4 Norfolk SeaWolves, 523 penalty yards against
Change from last week: +0
4-6 record (5 home, 5 away), PD 169-174. O rank: 1st D rank: 4th

First off, who the hell would have expected THIS team to be last in the standings. That was from last week’s but I still can’t believe it. The good news is that they’ve closed the gap considerably, with the same record as Portland and a better points for column, all they need are some conference wins. Fortunately, 3 of their next 4 games are in conference. Unfortunately, 2 of those 3 are on the road. They are still the most penalized team in the West, though, and missing the 107 penalty yards between them and Portland is likely the reason why they are sitting at the bottom.

#5 Kansas City Coyotes, 635 penalty yards against
Change from last week: +0
5-5 record (5 home, 5 away), PD 188-153. O rank: 3rd D rank: 2nd

Am I supposed to be afraid of this team or feel sorry for them? They have the worst home record in the league, but also the best road record. They’ve lost the most talent to call-ups, but also hold the best point differential in the league. That last bit may not be true much longer, though, as yet ANOTHER Coyote (Lombardi) got called up after week 10. Even though it goes against all selfish motivations, I kinda hope they win it all. If there’s one thing we know, they won’t get another chance.

#6 San Antonio Marshals, 658 penalty yards against
Change from last week: +0
6-4 record (5 home, 5 away), PD 153-138. O rank: 5th D rank: 3rd.

Holy crap, the Marshals did something unbelievable. They played two games without throwing an interception. They also had no passing TDs, but San Antonio fans are used to that. After 10 games, the Marshals have just ONE passing TD and 13 interceptions. Not exactly the numbers you expect from a championship team, but as the Marshals upgrade at the QB position for the second time this year, it’s only getting better. Their first QB was 0:8, the second 1:5, and now Christ is 0:0. Oh, and they are still the most penalized. Good thing this team leads the league in rushing yards and lowest points allowed, huh?
