*THE DOGHOUSE Presents: The Woof Line - Brad Woof - 04-25-2024

Another tough few breaks for the Woof Line and its readers.

Wolfie McDummy Jr. - QB - BAL
This was basically the exact opposite of what we’ve come to expect from the S47 Hawks. Probably because they found themselves in a hole early, BAL took the ball out of Skywalker’s hands and let McDummy sling it to try and make up the deficit. Bold move, considering they still got smoked.

Nakiri Ayame - RB - CTC
A real nailbiter here, but a win is a win. SAR really seems to step up their defense when playing CTC, but their offense didn’t get the memo. Ayame hits the over by 0.5 yards and we’ll take that all the way to the bank.

Sem’ga Nah’sim - WR - CHI
Exactly as predicted. A late game resurgence by COL almost got them the upset, but even in the loss, their defense performed quite well. Only 10 total receptions cross all pass-catchers for CHI and three for Nah’sim totaling only 23 yards on the night.

Maxwell Jacob Friedman - LB - HON
MJF is now tied for 5th all-time in TFLs after the explosive matchup against NYS. This one was a no-doubter though. Easy win, free money.

Trent Thigpen - CB - AUS
It was a close loss as predicted, but Thigpen wasn’t able to notch a single PD. Ironically his lack of a statline is likely because he performed TOO well. He spent his night covering NOLA’s star WR Hank Mardukas, who only received four targets all game for three completions. Thigpen provided such excellent cover that Speedings was forced to look elsewhere.

Fortified Fridge - OL - ARI
Pancakes are a garbage stat to predict and we will die on that hill. AZ’s OL performed passably in their rout of SJS, leaning much more heavily into the run than usual.

Zenzeroni Xystarch II - K/P - YKW
YKW have become the unpredictable team. Nothing makes sense with them. Unlike BER’s recent opponents, the Wraiths offense couldn’t get it together and move down the field with any regularity, resulting in only two XPs for ZX2, and a pair of long FGs which he missed. Even if he had hit them, he wouldn’t have surpassed his 9.5 line.

But predictability is for chumps and cowards. Woof Line readers are here to risk it for the biscuit and this week we’re risking it all on the DSFL.

Cameron Newton-Oswald/Daniel Kenny - K/P - MIN / TIJ
This one comes down MIN’s defense and whether or not they’ll be able to slow down TIJ enough to force FGs. Newton-Oswald is currently the most accurate kicker in the DSFL so we’re focusing our hopes on TIJ rookie, Kenny. He’s missed his share of kicks so far this season so it all comes down to how many opportunities he’ll have. These two teams played each other earlier in the season and it was an uncharacteristic drubbing for MIN. But even in the 34-0 TIJ win, Kenny missed a pair of kicks, including a 22 yard gimme. This is a risky over, but we like it because we’re expecting a revenge-game shootout.

Russell Jimmies - QB - KCC
Almost certainly a coin-flip bet. Jimmies is averaging 6.6 yards per completion so far on the year with almost no outliers, so it certainly doesn’t feel like it's weighted either way. We’re going to focus on the matchup here as our metric. BBB’s passing defense is a top 3 unit, while their run D is more middling, hopefully resulting in a more successful rushing attack for KCC and limiting Jimmies’ deep passes, just like it did in their last matchup where Jimmies averaged 6.1 yards per completion. Take the under with a grain of salt.

Warren Peace - WR - NOR
Peace has become NOR’s leading receiver and has been contributing well to his team, but Week 13 gives him a tough test against POR, the DSFL’s top passing defense. Seems much more likely that NOR will want to focus the bulk of its attention on the run game, which the Pythons are decidedly worse at defending. We’re thinking that NOR QB Elijah Dyson will get some scores, but more likely using his legs than his arm. Under.

DSFL -   DAL BBB NOR TIJ KCC LON MIN POR
There have been 48 games played in the DSFL in S47 and only 10 defensive touchdowns/safeties combined in that time, which averages out to 0.2 per game. Seeing as both stats are rare and entirely unpredictable, the safest bet is to go with the math. We’re taking the under but fate has scorned us before.

Huge Yakman - LB - BBB
Yakman is averaging a sack every other game in his young career with BBB and Jimmies is getting sacked more than twice per game on average. Simply put, the math checks out. That being said, Yakman’s line being at 1.0 changes how we need to look at the bet. In our opinion it’s much more likely that Yakman gets no sacks than two, so we’re playing it smart by taking the under.

Portland Pythons - POR
The Pythons lead the league in interceptions with 11 on the season, while Dyson and the SeaWolves lead in throwing them with 16. Feels like a good bet that Dyson pads his lead in this one. We’re predicting a rough start for NOR, resulting in some risky throws to catch up to a pretty potent Pythons offense. We’re taking the over here, even though the line is at 1.0.

That’s your scoop for today, but you’d be crazy to take advice from a dog right?

I took the Over the missed kicks as well as the under on the Yakman sack for exactly your same reasoning. LFG!
