*Analysis of Strength of Schedule for Season 48 - Lumosityfan - 05-20-2024

Hello everyone! I've decided to start analyzing the strength of schedule for the ISFL teams for Season 48. This won't be perfect since it's based on the win totals for Season 47 since that's the easiest and most concrete way to go and teams will probably change throughout the offseason and regular season but it's the most convenient method so I'm sticking to that.

First, the schedule for everyone's convenience: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nWENvEsS0LwWsjkDHDLHKHxpNPV3Oo9dTvfKfSiKozs/edit?usp=sharing

You'll see that I have each team at the top and the weeks on the left-hand side and then each matchup in the corresponding box. I also have the win percentage for each of the teams' opponents at the bottom. The first thing you'll notice is that the NSFC has an easier strength of schedule compared to the ASFC. This may have to do with the fact that there were more contenders in the ASFC with 4 10-win teams compared to just 2 10-win teams in the NSFL. No NSFC teams have a strength of schedule win percentage of higher than 50% while every ASFC team other than New Orleans has a strength of schedule win percentage of higher than 50%. The second thing you'll notice is the times that a team has to go on the road 3 straight weeks. This happens with New Orleans in weeks 9-11, Baltimore in weeks 8-10, Sarasota in weeks 7-9, Yellowknife in weeks 7-9.

Here are the specific numbers for those who don't want to go through the spreadsheet route:

Arizona Outlaws: 51.2%
Austin Copperheads: 52.7%
Honolulu Hahalua: 54.3%
San Jose Sabercats: 54.3%
Orange County Otters: 51.6%
New Orleans Second Line: 49.6%
New York Silverbacks: 52%
Baltimore Hawks: 48.8%
Berlin Fire Salamanders: 47.7%
Cape Town Crash: 47.7%
Colorado Yeti: 49.6%
Sarasota Sailfish: 47.3%
Chicago Butchers: 48.4%
Yellowknife Wraiths: 48%

New Orleans has the lowest opponents win percentage at 49.6% which should be interesting to see if this gives them an edge in the ASFC title hunt since Arizona is at 51.2% and San Jose is at 54.3%. San Jose is at a bit of a disadvantage there so we'll see if that plays a factor in the standings. The three main contenders in the NSFC, Sarasota, Cape Town, and Baltimore are all pretty even in terms of percentage, but Sarasota does have the advantage at 47.3% while Baltimore does have the disadvantage at 48.8%. But since the difference is about 1%, the schedule probably won't make a big amount of difference.
