What is a "mock draft"?
Is it a mock draft? Where the Gods mock us for thinking we can predict the future?
Is it a mock draft? An attempt at sense-making as we fumble toward a complete idea? A testament to effort and attention? A snapshot of the person we were and what we thought?
We will never know the essence of the mock draft, but the most noble effort we can undertake is to get as close to the truth of it as we can. @amjohnson636 put out the call for someone to commit his Excel-based mock draft to text, to live forever in the annals of media history. I answered that call not as an opportunity, but as a continuity of what was always already underway.
What am I but a humble steward? Carrying the water of Mock Drafts for the community may drink and, for a minute, seek refreshment in the possibility. Will a Tight End go in the top three picks? Will a trade act as a boulder in the river, fracturing the laminal flow of time with the brusk rapids change? Who will rise and who will fall? Which firms will be perceived as shrewd and cunning, and which will be lambasted for their foolishness?
To devote oneself to a mock draft is to commit to optimism: the future is worth considering. We reap the fruit of the draft harvest of yore and sew seeds of future S50 bounty. To mock draft is to chart the stars, stretching our arms towards the celestial bodies that both contain all TPE that was and ever will be.
