*JDC's Week 5 Power Rankings - jdc4654 - 09-18-2024 JDC’s Week 5 Power Rankings Welcome to the Season 50, Week 5 Power Rankings! These rankings are mine and mine alone which are based on statistics, analytics, and vibes. 14. Colorado Yeti (1-4) Change from last week: Down 4 Week 5 result: Loss to Cape Town Crash, 17-65 I think it is safe to say that all the goodwill that Colorado created in week 1 with their 57-6 win over Orange County is now out the window. They have suffered four straight losses with the most recent being a 17-65 defeat at the hands of the Cape Town Crash. Colorado turned the ball over four times in this game, three being from interceptions and one being from a fumble. The Colorado defense just could not stop the onslaught of offense brought on by the Crash. The halftime score was 59-7 in favor of Cape Town. Not only could the Colorado defense not stop the Cape Town offense, the offensive line for the Yeti could not protect their quarterback. Katya went down for a total of five sacks. This has to be a very frustrating start to the season for the Yeti after the sim teased them with the spectacular week 1 outcome. Next opponent: vs. Berlin Fire Salamanders (0-5) 13. Berlin Fire Salamanders (0-5) Change from last week: Up 1 Week 5 result: Loss to Yellowknife Wraiths, 23-38 The Berlin Fire Salamanders are currently winless in this 50th season of the ISFL. This loss came at home against the Yellowknife Wraiths where they were just outgunned and outplayed. Tuna actually had a decent game with 237 yards, 3 touchdowns, and only one interception. Berlin unfortunately could not get their ground game going. Swaggert had 14 rushing attempts and averaged only 2.3 yards per carry. Yellowknife was able to tear apart the Berlin defense and give the Fire Salamanders their fifth loss of the season. Next opponent: @ Colorado Yeti (0-5) 12. Orange County Otters (0-5) Change from last week: Up 1 Week 5 result: Loss to Austin Copperheads, 24-42 Another team still seeking their first win of the season is the Orange County Otters. They suffered a defeat in week 5 against the Austin Copperheads where they lost 24-42. Lloyd Bannings threw for 310 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions but the Otters just could not protect the pocket. Bannings was sacked a total of five times in this game. The Otters defense just could not hold off opposing QB Jay Cue III as he was near perfect, throwing for three touchdowns and a quarterback rating of 137.7. The woes for the Otters continues as they cannot get their ground game going and their defense struggles to get key stops. Next opponent: @ Arizona Outlaws (2-2-1) 11. New Orleans Secondline (1-4) Change from last week: Up 1 Week 5 result: Loss to Honolulu Hahalua, 31-34 Is it time for the panic button in New Orleans? The reigning back-to-back champion is in crisis mode as they may not even make the playoffs to go for that three-peat. The Secondline came up just short against Honolulu in week 5, losing 31-34. Speedings played well throwing for 375 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception. This is another case of a team’s running game failing to get going. Will Nuck and Kyle Crane only combined for 49 rushing yards. The defense just didn’t have an answer for opposing receiver Brad Woof who hauled in two touchdowns against the secondary of the Secondline. There is real cause for concern in New Orleans. Next opponent: vs. New York Silverbacks (3-1-1) 10. San Jose Sabercats (3-2) Change from last week: Down 2 Week 5 result: Loss to New York Silverbacks, 24-34 The San Jose defense could not do much against the aggressive rushing attack of the New York Silverbacks. New York scored three rushing touchdowns against San Jose which seemed to play the biggest factor in San Jose’s demise in week 5. Josh Patterson was able to find Imma Sabercat in the end zone twice for San Jose but it was not enough to overcome New York. San Jose still has a winning record but faces a tough road ahead as they have two 4-1 teams on their schedule in the immediate future. Josh Patterson will really need to will his team to victory but the defense will have to step up in order to do so. Next opponent: vs. Honolulu Hahalua (4-1) 9. Arizona Outlaws (2-2-1) Change from last week: Up 2 Week 5 result: Win against Sarasota Sailfish, 31-14 It was a great, confidence-boosting win for the Arizona Outlaws in week 5 as they made a 31-14 statement against the Sarasota Sailfish. Jordan Bamford made a huge play in the second quarter as he and Puddles O’Duck connected for a 57 yard touchdown pass. The Sailfish were stunned and could not do much after this. It was also an incredible game for Purdy Mediocre with two rushing touchdowns. Overall a great win for the Outlaws but they do face turbulence ahead as the next three out of four games are against 4-1 teams. Next opponent: vs. Orange County Otters (0-5) 8. Sarasota Sailfish (3-2) Change from last week: Down 4 Week 5 result: Loss to Arizona Outlaws, 14-31 It was a tough loss for the Sarasota Sailfish as they went down to the Arizona Outlaws as previously outlined in the last entry. The Sailfish turned the ball over three times and allowed four sacks against their quarterback. Sarasota is ahead of Arizona in these power rankings due to still having a winning record and a favorable schedule ahead. The Sarasota Sailfish play Colorado and Orange County in weeks 7 and 8, respectively. Next opponent: @ Cape Town Crash 7. Baltimore Hawks (3-2) Change from last week: Down 6 Week 5 result: Loss to Osaka Kaiju, 10-17 This was a seemingly uncharacteristic loss for the Baltimore Hawks as they only put up 10 points in their loss against the Osaka Kaiju. Their only score came from a pass by McDummy Jr. to Reginald Shrubbery at the tail end of the third quarter. The Kaiju defense had the Hawks’ number in this game. Baltimore may need to open the playbook up a little more if they would like to hang on to their current winning record. They have a tough matchup next week against the Austin Copperheads at home. Next opponent: vs. Austin Copperheads (4-1) 6. Osaka Kaiju (2-3) Change from last week: Up 3 Week 5 result: Win against Baltimore Hawks, 17-10 Not the prettiest win but a win is a win. The Osaka Kaiju took out the Baltimore Hawks 17-10 at home in week 5. Russell Jimmies threw for two touchdowns: one to Neil Bonnet and one to rookie, Old Man Walker. The Kaiju were able to limit the Baltimore offense and take home a much needed win in the early stages of this season. They were also able to stop Baltimore twice on fourth downs which sealed the deal for their victory. Next opponent: @ Yellowknife Wraiths (4-1) 5. New York Silverbacks (3-1-1) Change from last week: Up 2 Week 5 result: Win against San Jose Sabercats, 34-24 It was a great ground performance for the New York Silverbacks as they ran all over the Sabercats in a 34-24 victory. Reginald Hammerfall and Elijah Dyson ran for a combined 100 yards and 3 touchdowns. Captain Sean Robinson also found the end zone for New York. This was a solid win overall for New York as they were able to hold off the tough passing attack from San Jose and were able to earn their third win of the season. Next opponent: @ New Orleans Secondline (1-4) 4. Honolulu Hahalua (4-1) Change from last week: Up 2 Week 5 result: Win against New Orleans Secondline, 34-31 In what pundits are calling the ISFL Game of the Week, the Honolulu Hahalua defended their home turf and held off the New Orleans Secondline in week 5. Both quarterbacks were lighting the field up where McRobinson found Brad Woof twice and Stetson David once in the endzone. The Secondline tried to come back late in the fourth quarter with two Passarelli touchdowns but it was not enough to overcome the lead that the Hahalua had built. Honolulu is off to a great start of the season and looks to continue with this momentum. Next opponent: @ San Jose Sabercats (3-2) 3. Yellowknife Wraiths (4-1) No change from prior rankings Week 5 result: Win against Berlin Fire Salamanders, 38-23 Another great offensive performance came from Yellowknife who threw for three passing touchdowns in their win against the Fire Salamanders. Lane Wilson had a great game with 96 yards from scrimmage and two receiving touchdowns. Sergei Nunkanblok also made a huge play on defense, recovering a fumble, and taking it to the house for a defensive touchdown. Yellowknife has proven to be a tough out so far this season and looks to continue rolling their opponents. They arguably have the best overall team - passing, rushing, defense, etc. They will be a tough game on anyone’s schedule. Next opponent: Osaka Kaiju (2-3) 2. Austin Copperheads (4-1) Change from last week: Up 3 Week 5 result: Win against Orange County Otters, 42-24 On a three game winning streak, Austin has developed their talent and leads the ASFC after week 5. In a commanding victory over the Otters, Austin had three passing touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns. This was a great team performance and Austin has plenty of firepower on this team to put up points. Quarterback Jay Cue III ended with a quarterback rating of 137.7. Next opponent: @ Baltimore Hawks (3-2) 1. Cape Town Crash (4-1) Change from last week: Up 1 Week 5 result: Win against Colorado Yeti, 65-17 Oh my goodness! Cape Town had no mercy on the Colorado Yeti in the first half of their week 5 bout where the score was 59-7 in favor of the Crash. Thor threw for four touchdowns and 374 yards in this game. Ayame also was able to find the endzone on the ground with two rushing touchdowns. But another big story was the defense where two defensive touchdowns were scored by the hands of Legs McMillion and rookie Martavius Spencer. Cape Town has proven to be an unstoppable force, especially on offense. Any team with Cape Town on the schedule should make sure their defense is set against the Crash but it may not be enough. Next opponent: vs. Sarasota Sailfish (3-2) RE: JDC's Week 5 Power Rankings - wetwilleh - 09-18-2024 The 1-4 team below the two 0-5 teams is wild RE: JDC's Week 5 Power Rankings - AustinP0027 - 09-18-2024 Yeah I was about to say. I'm fine with COL dropping, 4 in a row will do that, but two teams that have lost 5 in a row are above them? Locker room material. Posting this up everywhere right now! RE: JDC's Week 5 Power Rankings - AustinP0027 - 09-18-2024 Too late. Ray Baker's face is plastered all over the COL locker room. We've even invented little slogans to put under them like "Baker? More like Faker!" .....listen, we're not the most intelligent group, as you probably can tell based on all the penalties we get.
