JDC’s Week 8 Power Rankings

Welcome to the Season 50, Week 8 Power Rankings! These rankings are mine and mine alone which are based on statistics, analytics, and vibes. Take these power rankings seriously, at your own peril. I apologize for missing the week 7 power rankings but I was pretty content leaving everyone where they were.

14. Orange County Otters (0-8)  OCO
Change from last week: No change
Week 8 result: Loss to Sarasota Sailfish, 21-27

The only winless team in the league is the Orange County Otters. There is not much to say except they are hoping to get the first overall pick in the next draft. William Strong did make his presence felt against the Sailfish by scoring 1 touchdown on the ground and 1 touchdown through the air from Bannings. Not much else to say about the Otters except, thanks for coming.

Next opponent: vs. Berlin Fire Salamanders (1-7)

13. Berlin Fire Salamanders (1-7) BER
Change from last week: Down 1
Week 8 result: Loss to Austin Copperheads, 17-25

They won the battle of the mids against the Yeti in week 6 but have not done anything since. It was a one score loss against the Austin Copperheads in week 8. Pitter Patter caught two late touchdowns but it was not enough to come up with a win. They do face the Orange County Otters next week so we’ll see which team is worse.

Next opponent: @ Orange County Otters (0-8)

12. Colorado Yeti (2-6) COL
Change from last week: Up 1
Week 8 result: Loss to Honolulu Hahalua, 31-37

The score was 31-9 in favor of the Colorado Yeti in the second quarter. Tim Riggins had an incredible first half, catching two touchdowns for a combined 96 yards. It seemed the Yeti had Honolulu figured out. But Honolulu played better from behind and came back to score 28 unanswered points to defeat the Yeti in week 8. The Yeti do have a passionate fanbase but it was not enough to will their team to victory against the Hahalua.

Next opponent: vs. Cape Town Crash (5-3)

11. San Jose Sabercats (3-5) SJS
Change from last week: Down 1
Week 8 result: Loss to Osaka Kaiju, 21-38
The Sabercats have been struggling as of late. After starting the season 3-1, they have lost four in a row to make it to 3-5. Their most recent loss came at the hands of the Osaka Kaiju. The Sabercats could not find any touchdowns through the air as Josh Patterson threw two interceptions. Maple Dogwood did run for two touchdowns but this was not enough to overcome Osaka. San Jose does have a tough schedule ahead so we will see if they are able to snap this cold spell.

Next opponent: @ New Orleans Secondline (3-5)

10. New York Silverbacks (4-3-1) NYS
Change from last week: Down 6
Week 8 result: Loss to Cape Town Crash, 14-30

The New York Silverbacks are currently on a two game slide. In week 8 they fell to the Cape Town Crash where they were only able to put up two touchdowns. The Silverbacks were able to get one interception off Thor but it was not enough to overcome the Cape Town offense. Also, why are the New York bot names screaming at me?

Next opponent: @ Honolulu Hahalua (6-2)

9. New Orleans Secondline (3-5) NOLA
Change from last week: Up 2
Week 8 result: Win against Baltimore Hawks, 30-17

On the flip side, this team is on a two game winning streak. The New Orleans Secondline recently defeated the Baltimore Hawks 30-17 thanks to their great passing game. Quarterback Speedings found three different receivers for passing touchdowns in this game. The Secondline seem to be back on track but is it too little, too late in terms of finding a playoff seed?

Next opponent: vs. San Jose Sabercats (3-5)

8. Osaka Kaiju (4-4) OSK
Change from last week: Up 1
Week 8 result: Win against San Jose Sabercats, 38-21

A very solid win for the Osaka Kaiju as they are also on a two game winning streak. Russell Jimmies lit up the field as he found three different receivers for passing touchdowns. Triceracop also scored on a rushing touchdown. This offense seems to be in sync and we will certainly be watching to see how much noise Osaka can continue making as we progress through the second half of the season.

Next opponent: vs. Sarasota Sailfish (5-3)

7. Sarasota Sailfish (5-3) SAR
Change from last week: Down 4
Week 8 result: Win against Orange County Otters, 27-21

Pundits say this was a must win game for Sarasota to stay in the playoff picture. Sarasota got it done against the Orange County Otters by a difference of 6 points thanks in part to two passing touchdowns and one Ace Anderson rushing touchdown. Bugs threw the ball to the Otters twice but still hung on to the victory in week 8.

Next opponent: @ Osaka Kaiju (4-4)

6. Baltimore Hawks (5-3) BAL
Change from last week: Down 1
Week 8 result: Loss to New Orleans Secondline, 17-30

Tell me where you have heard this one - The Baltimore Hawks lose to the New Orleans Secondline. It seems New Orleans has their number and this was no different in week 8. Baltimore could not muster enough offense to overcome their playoff rival. Baltimore does have a decent cushion still, being at five wins but they have a tough test ahead against the Wraiths.

Next opponent: @ Yellowknife Wraiths (6-2)

5. Cape Town Crash (5-3) CTC
Change from last week: Up 3
Week 8 result: Win against New York Silverbacks, 30-14

A solid win for the Cape Town Crash as they move to 5-3 on the season. Two rushing touchdowns courtesy of Hunter Henry and Nakiri Ayame gave the Crash the edge against the Silverbacks. Thor found the end zone once through the air and threw for over 350 yards. They do have a favorable matchup in week 9 so we will see if Cape Town can work with this momentum and keep it going.

Next opponent: @ Colorado Yeti (2-6)

4. Austin Copperheads (6-2) AUS
Change from last week: Up 2
Week 8 result: Win against Berlin Fire Salamanders, 25-17

Not the prettiest win against one of the lower tier teams of the league but the Austin Copperheads were able to defend the home color rush and get the win. Jay Cue III had one passing touchdown and Howard Coward had one rushing touchdown. Berlin did try to make a comeback in the fourth quarter but Austin was able to hold them off just enough. Big test ahead against the Arizona Outlaws in week 9.

Next opponent: vs. Arizona Outlaws (5-2-1)

3. Yellowknife Wraiths (6-2) YKW
Change from last week: Down 2
Week 8 result: Loss to Arizona Outlaws, 24-37

Dot football enthusiasts definitely had their eyeballs on this game. Yellowknife had been on a four game winning streak going into Arizona. Unfortunately for the Wraiths, it was not their day. Boudreaux did find three different receivers for a touchdown each but could not get much done on the ground. The Arizona offense was just too potent for the defense in this game and Yellowknife suffered their second loss of the season. They have another tough bout ahead against the 5-3 Hawks at home.

Next opponent: vs. Baltimore Hawks (5-3)

2. Arizona Outlaws (5-2-1) ARI
Change from last week: Up 5
Week 8 result: Win against Yellowknife Wraiths, 37-24

Arizona Outlaws, come on down! You are on a four game winning streak and making a lot of noise as we reach the halfway point of the 50th season. An incredible win against the Yellowknife Wraiths who have consistently been at the top or near the top of these power rankings thus far. Two passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns solidified their win and shot them up these power rankings. Arizona will have a big challenge in week 9 as they face the 6 win Austin Copperheads.

Next opponent: @ Austin Copperheads (6-2)

1. Honolulu Hahalua (6-2) HON
Change from last week: Up 1
Week 8 result: Win against Colorado Yeti, 37-31

The Honolulu Hahalua play better while behind. Fans were ready to write the Hahalua off as they were down 9-31 in the second quarter against one of the lower tier teams of the league. But the Hahalua found the will to put up 28 unanswered points and earn the overtime victory. Brad Woof, Stetson David, and Tyler Higbee II each found the end zone courtesy of Lenard McRobinson. Lenard and Stetson also found the end zone on the ground in this game. It was a flawless second half for Honolulu and the vibes are great in the locker room with IceBear and Hudz at the helm of this campaign.

Next opponent: vs. New York Silverbacks (4-3-1)

I 100% agree with these power rankings

I don't really see how you can have Arizona below HON on what are supposed to be power rankings, especially after the last 2 weeks.
