This isnt a complaint against safeties overall. Its just that it seems like Free Safety is way too strong.

As most of you obviously know, generally the FS is used more in coverage and the SS is used more to help against the run.

But if you look at the stats, FS dominates the tackles leaderboard. In fact, both of the top 2 tacklers are FS, and you need to get past 5 FS to get to the first SS on the leaderboard. That should not be happening.

Dominic Verns, with 70 tackle, has managed 127 tackles, 2 TFL, 2 FF and 11 sacks.

Torque Lewith, with 58.5 tackle, has 120 tackles, 9 TFL, 1 FF and 3 sacks.

Ja Brill(75 tackle), who has the most tackles of all SS in the league, has 78 tackles, 5 sacks, 1 TFL and 0 FF. He is getting outtackled by a player with a tackle stat nearly 20 points worse.

Earl Thomas, in his entire career, has 0 sacks. He also has never broken 100 tackles.

Ed Reed, the GOAT FS, had 6 total sacks his entire 12 year career, and maxed out at 71 tackles in a year.

These FS are putting up star LB numbers with significantly worse tackling stats. And the worst part is that FS in general have more TFLs and sacks than SS. That should not be happening. At this point, the SS position seems essential like the RB2 position on a team.

I suspect that this is more to do with players being fielded in other positions (including LB), actually

Verna and Lewith both take a majority of their snaps at linebacker.

And I'll just go ahead and head off the next argument that FS at LB is too strong because of Verns' numbers.

Otters were starting 2 inactives and 3 rookies in their front seven last season. Verns was a result of him constantly having to make the tackle every time the RB blew through the line for 6+ yards. It will normalize significantly this season with some guys moving to Dline to replace inactives and last season's rookies Boom and Osullivan making significant gains in TPE.

There it is, the last nail in this suggestion's coffin. No suggested change is going to gain any traction in this league without the endorsement of Angus Winchester and his Stamp of Disapproval.

For the record, I still think the sim makes it easier for DBs to tackle RBs.
