*Portland Pythons Week 9 and Week 10 Review - CDub2 - 11-25-2017

Why do the Blues do this. The cause so much grief and pain, why must they exist.

Anyways, here is another review for the Portland Pythons. In week 9, we picked up another win against and followed that up with another loss to our other division rival in Week 10. I don't understand it, but the sim gods must have some other plan for us.

Week 9 - @ NOR

For as much as I complain about losing to the Blues all the time, part of me shows some sympathy towards the Seawolves GMs and players. We have now beat them 3 straight times in 3 straight entertaining and close games. Luckily for them, they are 5-1-1 against the rest of the league, so the West Division is showing it's power this year. This past week, the game before the re-sim was great to watch. It was very close, and very entertaining. There was a re-sim, so this article will mostly address the stats presented in the re-sim, but just to put in my 2 cents, I love playing Norfolk. They are awesome opponents and will only get better.

Onto the stats. A win be 8 points shows that Portland won the game pretty handily, so it would be a safe bet to assume that Portland did as they always do and dominated possession time and 3rd down efficiency. Right? I'll throw some stats out there: Team 1 - 1/11 3rd down efficiency, 24.5 minutes of possession, Team 2 - 5/18 3rd down efficiency, 35.5 minutes of possession. Which one is Portland? The trend so far this season would Say that Portland is Team 2, but in this game, Portland is Team 1. The only stat POR managed to be better in was penalties. They were more disciplined. Yay.

That being said, this was a re-sim. The stats from the original could have pointed much more in POR's favour, or maybe not. The stats from this game were only accepted because the scoreboard for this game and following game were correct. I still don't understand how POR managed to win this game, it was complete domination by NOR and I think that says alot about how that team has progressed. Watch out.

Verdict: Sim gods had to get it right due to a re-sim. Scoreboard was the only important stat.

Week 10 - @ CHI

How does this keep happening. All 3 of the losses this season have come at the hands of Chicago. At least this loss was within 10 points. The previous 3 match ups have all been blowouts. POR seems to be the only team that CHI can beat as well. They are 4-6 with 3 of those wins coming against us. Just as NOR continually loses to POR, CHI seems to have our number.

Onto the stats. As the scoreboard dictates, the games stats were in the favour of CHI the whole game. The won the 3rd down eficiency battle, and possesesed the ball for a minute more. The stats were close, but tilted slightly in CHI's favour, hence the 5 point win. There were a few key differences in the games. 1) POR in the Red Zone. In the second quarter, POR with the ball on the 14 yard line, Goose makes a 9 yard run to make it 1st and Goal on the 5. Penalty. Completion, incomplete, incomplete, field goal from the 2 yard line. Later in the second, 1st and 10 on the 13 yard line. Completion, sack, short completion, field goal from the 8 yard line. Noticing a trend? Third quarter, 1st and 10 from the 18 and a lot of momentum. Incomplete, incomplete... incomplete. Field goal from the 18. 3 times the Pythons had the ball deep in CHI territory and only managed 9 points. in a 5 point game, that is the difference. 2) Penalties. 10 penalties in a game. While both sides had penalty trouble, 10 in a game is far too many. POR is usually one of the most disciplined teams, but not in this game. Penalties coming at bad times and giving CHI yardage when we can't afford it.

Verdict: Sim gods got it right, but it would be nice if they threw us a bone once in a while.
